tl;dr - This is an industry sponsored bill that would allow AT&T, Verizon, and all the other telecoms to set up mini-cell towers on any public property without regulation by local municipalities. Basically, they can set up a refrigerator sized mini-cell node in front of your house and there's nothing you or your city can do to stop them. They're claiming this will allow them to set up 5G wireless networks. Also, don't forget that these things need to be set up about once every 10-20 houses, so it's not like they're gonna be sparse. Also don't forget that this is exactly what they did to gain access to utility poles for fiber optic lines 20 years ago, promising super fast and cheaper internet for everyone, and also competition. None of those things ever really panned out.
300 out of 400 California cities oppose it, but it seems like this bill will still pass the State Assembly and State Senate, so we're going to need Gov. Jerry Brown to veto this thing. I'm writing to him now asking him to do so.
EDIT - When I say "in front of your house", I mean the publicly owned sidewalk area in front of your home.
