Modified a chimney breast to fit a refrigerator. Contractor used fiberglass insulation to seal the exposed flues. Is this a health hazard? How do I fix it? HomeImprovement

Pics

We previously had a stove in our chimney breast. As apart of a home remodel, we decided to move the stove so we could vent it, and raised the chimney lintel to accommodate a fridge.

There are apparently two flues that are now exposed. My contractor stuck some fiberglass insulation in them. I had asked him about containing or hiding the insulation. He suggested just spray painting the area.

I didn't really worry too much about it. I figured I could just fill the space on the back of the top of the fridge to hide it away. But today I read all these articles talking about exposed insulation is a health hazard. I have two young kids, so I want to be cautious.

Any ideas or suggestions?
