So this is kinda weird, and it might take some time to read, but I didn’t really know what to do other than post this online. Usually, I wouldn’t even bother posting something like this, and would just keep this to myself… but this is different…
Currently, I’m a college student who is living at home with his parents while going to the local community college and working at the nearest bookstore. The bookstore is a great job and I love the college I’m going to despite having to pay out the ass for gas every week, but I’d rather be living on my own rather than depending on my parents for housing. My job doesn’t really pay me enough to get a place for myself yet, so until I’m able to save that kind of money up, I’m stuck here. Normally these facts would seem trivial and completely pointless to even post about… except that this is the reasoning for the issue I’m currently facing.
My parents left town today in order to visit some relatives up in Connecticut, so I’m currently alone with my cats. I live in Central Pennsylvania so it takes a good four to five hours to get to the city where my relatives live, and I decided that I’d rather die than have to visit relatives I’ve met only like 5 times in my life, so when my parents asked if I wanted to go with them, I politely declined. They were only going to be gone for today and tomorrow anyways, so I could just watch the house, feed our cats, Grayson, a boy, and Jasmine, a girl, and I even picked up a shift at work tomorrow, so I wouldn’t need to worry too much about keeping busy… but some weird shit has been happening to me…
I woke up early today to the sounds of my parents getting ready and arguing. My parents always argue whenever there’s a vacation, party, picnic, or any form of gathering or event. It’s a natural thing that just happens, and I’ve basically gotten used to it by this point. I woke up twice to them arguing even. The first time they woke me up, they were arguing about Sleep Paralysis and Lucid Dreaming. I knew it had something to do with work and the recent study that they were doing, so I just blocked them out. The next time I woke up, they were arguing about the fact that my mom hadn’t packed any shampoo the night before… You can really tell they can argue over just about everything…
After waking up early to that, I couldn’t really get back to sleep, so I got up, surprising them by getting up earlier than my usual 11:00, and bid them farewell, before promptly going back to bed and just lying there for a while. I know that I’m probably being boring right now, but this is the point where things get weird, I swear, just hear me out. I got up out of bed and decided to start my day off the way it should always start, with a long shower that you can just stand there and think for a while. A cold shower felt great, especially given how warm it’s been lately in my area, and just standing there gave me some nice time to reflect on all the nothing I was going to do today.
That nice feeling didn’t stay however… You know that feeling when you’re taking a shower, and you feel like there’s going to be someone on the other side of the curtain, ready to go all Norman Bates in Psycho on your ass? Well I basically had that feeling, only five times worse than I’ve ever felt it. I felt like I KNEW there was someone there on the other side of the curtain, and I had no clue what to do.
It was this electric feeling, almost like there was static in the air. I could tell that there was this presence, but I didn’t know what else to do in that situation other than open the curtain. I slowly turned the water off, grabbed the curtain, and yanked it across, giving me full view of the small bathroom I have. There was nothing, and the instant I pulled that curtain, I felt fine. Normally, I could just say that I was over imagining things… but this isn’t the first time this has happened to me.
About 6 months ago now, I posted on the “Glitch in the Matrix” Subreddit about a strange occurrence in my basement. Something EXTREMELY similar to what just happened in the bathroom happened back then too, only it was pitch dark, and In that story, I couldn’t see anything in a corner of my basement kitchen by the refrigerator. For the sake of not having to retell the entire story, if you want to read that, I have it posted in r/glitch_in_the_matrix under the title “Is Someone There?”
Needless to say, the fact that this happened again made me consider posting an update, but I figured that I didn’t really need to do that, since the last post got little traffic, and I didn’t really know if it was the same thing, considering the pretty different circumstances. Needless to say, I decided against posting that, instead opting to go and play some Persona 5.
I’ve been on the hype train for Persona 5 since it came out, and with the recent announcement of the spin off games for both Persona’s 3 and 5, I wanted to replay some of 5 and finally finish 3. I did a pretty good mixture of playing those games, reading, and looking at my youtube channel to see if my recent video got any views, and to my surprise it actually did! A whole 28 of them… and that’s when I realized the most shocking thing! I was hungry! So the next thing I did was go downstairs and start the over to preheat to 400 for a frozen pizza.
My kitties started bothering me and I realized that if I’m hungry, then they must be too, so I took them downstairs to the aforementioned basement, turned on the lights in the kitchen and began to scoop out the food from the can. I gave them their food with a little more in his bowl with a little less in hers because she’s gotten fat and while she’s an adorably fat kitty, she’s still a fat kitty, and made my way back to the main part of the basement.
I left the cat’s room, and made my way towards the stairs and reached for the light switch, when I realized that something was off. Like normal, when I got up the first step, I instinctively reached for the light switch to turn the lights off… but they were already off.
You know how in horror movies, the main character will come back into the room and immediately notice when something was different. Well that’s bullshit, because despite the fact that I turned the lights on when I was making the cat’s dinner, and that the lights were off when I left the room, I didn’t notice the lights were off until I reached for the light switch, and realized that it was already flipped down. It wasn’t dark out, so I didn’t need to have the lights on, and it wouldn’t have been unusual for me to just leave them off, but I distinctly remembered that I left the lights on…
At about that moment, I started to feel that feeling again, first like there was static in the air, and then the feeling of someone being there and I knew exactly where it was coming from. It was coming from behind me… and this time, there was something there waiting for me.
I don’t know what it was, I don’t even know HOW it was… but I know that what I saw, doesn’t make sense. I saw… and I can’t believe I’m actually saying this... but I saw a shadow person… or something LIKE a shadow person, I don’t really know how else to describe it. The… shadow person, for lack of a better term, was extremely transparent, and if it wasn’t for the fact that it was slightly grey and smoky in the area where it stood, I wouldn’t have even seen it at all.
Despite it’s transparency, though, I could clearly see the outline of the thing, giving it a human shape that stood taller than me, about 6 feet or maybe taller. It was strangely 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional at the same time. It was 2-D looking, almost like a cardboard cutout and looked flat, but I could tell that it was standing there, and I could even see through it, so I could tell it was definitely there.
Other than it’s outline and it’s height, however, there were no other defining features that I could see. It’s face wasn’t defined, so I couldn’t make out any eyes, nose, or mouth, and from what I could tell, it didn’t have any… shadow… clothes on, so it wasn’t dressed up like a normal human would be. It was just a… humanoid shadow.
Suddenly, I heard one of my cats running upstairs, and that managed to take my attention away from the thing for a second, and when I turned my head back, realizing my mistake in turning away from the thing, it was already gone… Damn, if I was in a horror movie, I would have just gotten devoured and sent to hell or something. This event really freaked me out, and I immediately ran back up the stairs to check on the oven and see if it was preheated… only to find it turned off.
Now this was just the tip of the weird iceberg because, sure, maybe I just didn’t turn the lights on in the first place or I turned them off after I finished scooping out the cat food, but I DEFINITELY turned on the oven. I heard the oven on during the silence when I was staring at that… thing down in the basement. It’s a fairly loud oven when it’s on, as are most ovens, so the fact that it was off, and I didn’t even hear the beep of it being turned off, mixed with what I saw, got me even more freaked out.
Usually, by this point, I’d nope the hell out of here, but the problem is… I have no money. Like, not $50 to my name but I don’t want to spend it because I’m stingy, kind of no money, I mean $0.67 in my spending account kind of money. I got paid yesterday, but I have it set up so that $125 of my paycheck goes to various savings accounts that go to college, car insurance, and a general savings account, all of which I can’t touch in the slightest.
Well yesterday, because I was scheduled a lot less the week before, I only got paid about $130 dollars, and a pending transaction brought that down into the cents category. Not only that, I can’t spend a shit ton of gas trying to go somewhere because I’m really low on gas, and I need money that I obviously don’t have to get more. My mom was supposed to transfer some money over so that I could at least have some money for gas, but I’ve looked three times today, and it’s still at that $0.67, and shows no signs of changing. As Much as I want to get out, I’m pretty much stuck here.
I’m now writing this on a word document and I’m gonna post this sometime. I don’t really know when… Hell I might not even post it and I’ll just leave it on my computer and find it sometime later after having forgotten it. Maybe I’ll post it in “Glitch in the Matrix” Just like I did the last one, and I’ll get a good laugh as everyone on there explains what I experienced with reason. “the mixture of my lights going off and my oven shutting off must have been the power going out.” Or maybe even “You saw that shadow because you were sleepy from being woken up earlier than normal and it was just your mind playing tricks on you.” Who knows maybe I’ll just show it to my parents when they get back and we can laugh at it!
Wait a second… I just remembered something… If my cats were still eating in their room… then why did I hear a cat upstairs when I was looking at the shadow person?
11:30 PM Update.
I didn’t even post this yet because I didn’t think to do so… shit… I should have posted this earlier but now I don’t have enough time to rewrite the whole last part just to accommodate this one so I’ll clue you in this way… It’s been about 3 hours since I fed the cats, saw the shadow person, and wrote the first part of this… and… I saw it again. I just saw the shadow person again. I put it to the back of my mind after I texted my friends Alex and Lucas about it, and they proceeded to believe me… but not really.
They both gave me that “I’m having a hard time understanding it, but I believe you” message where they give you support, but have absolutely no reason to believe what you told them. Honestly, I can’t blame them, I had a hard time believing it myself, and I saw the damn thing right in front of me. Looking back now… I’m kicking myself for not believing what I saw, because that was nothing compared to what I just saw.
After texting the guys and restarting the oven without any issues, I ate my dinner, cleaned the cat’s litterbox without any lights going off, and went back upstairs to play some more video games. I kept my mind focused on Persona 3, while making sure to keep the lights on in the room, and nothing bothered me at all. Then after losing 2 in-game weeks of progress after forgetting to save before a floor boss and promptly raging at my own stupidity, I had pretty much put everything behind me as I got ready for bed. I have work earlier tomorrow and I really didn’t want to go tired as shit, so I decided that 11:00 was a good time for bed. I’d wake up with enough time to get ready, feed the cats, and water the plants outside for my mom.
As I got ready for bed nothing out of the ordinary was going on, and even when I went to the bathroom quick, nothing strange happened. However, after I opened the door to the bathroom, suddenly, a cat rushed in, running right past me, and running further into the bathroom. This is normal, since Grayson does this every once in a while, and he’s even found himself locked in a closet more than once because of this habit.
“Grayson, cmon, lets go.” I said into the bathroom, flipping the light switch back on again. I didn’t see him though. I swear to god, I saw that cat rush through, but he wasn’t in the corner by the toilet, he wasn’t in the bathtub, or in the shower curtain, and he wasn’t behind the door. Unless if that cat immediately rushed back out after running into the room, there was no way he could just vanish like that.
Thinking back to the events from earlier, I texted the guys about that event now, but the shape I saw run into the bathroom was clearly a cat, and not a humanoid, so I wasn’t nearly as freaked out as I was earlier. If it was something like what I saw earlier, I would have been flipping out, but I saw a cat run in, and even heard what sounded like Grayson running into the bathroom, making the pitter patter of his paws against the ground.
Still, I was a little shaken up about that because it was yet another event that seemed to be somewhat paranormal. I finished responding to the guy’s texts while I laid in bed with the lights off, and proceeded to finish everything else before I tried to go to bed. Unfortunately, I wasn’t going to be going to bed that easily.
Once more, I felt that feeling of static, that feeling like someone was there, and I didn’t want to open my eyes. I knew it was dark, and I knew that even if I did open my eyes, I probably wouldn’t be able to see it, but I was just so worried. I could sense it in the corner of my room, right by the door, which is a dark area, and I knew I could feel that very same presence, but I kept my eyes closed for as long as possible. Soon, I felt as though it might have left. I still felt the static like air, but I couldn’t tell if there was a presence like I could before, so I assumed that whatever it was, it was gone.
I was wrong.
I opened my eyes and immediately that sense of dread came back over me in full force. I don’t know if whatever it is could mask its presence, or if my body just got used to the sensation over a bit of time, but when I opened my eyes, it was still in that corner of the room. I couldn’t see it’s body, because of how dark it was in the room… but I could see something that I hadn’t seen before. This… Shadow Person does have eyes… and they are the most terrifying, soul encapsulating hole’s I’ve ever had the displeasure to stare into.
They weren’t filled with color, they weren’t dim, or full of emotion like what would be normal with human eyes. Instead, what stared back at me were two bright white circles, with small dots in the center. It was sort of how you see some animated eyes look on cartoon characters sometimes, only when two translucent white eyes stare back at you from the dark, there’s nothing funny about it. When my breathing hitched in my throat, it did something else that I hadn’t seen before either.
It smiled… the fucking thing smiled… it’s grin was almost like that guy Freaky Fred from Courage the Cowardly Dog. You know, the guy who was “very naughty” and all that. Well this grin was huge, and just like the eyes, each tooth seemed to glow. Now, all I was looking at in the darkness was a pair of big, glowing white eyes, and a glowing set of teeth misshapen into the most terrifying grin.
I couldn’t just stare at this Cheshire Cat of a face any longer and so I screamed. Not a manly scream or anything, but just a full blown scream of terror. At this point, I reached for my bed side lamp, flipped it on, and saw the shape of a man for a second, before the shape was gone in the blink of an eye, and I was left without a clue as to what to do. I’ve already called the police and reported that I saw a man in my house.
I basically phrased it as “I thought I saw something earlier today, but when I was going to be, I opened my eyes and I saw someone in the corner of my room. I couldn’t find him when I looked around, but I wasn’t to report it anyways.” Because I’d be sent to the psychiatric ward if I tried to tell the police what I actually saw. What I just needed was someone to be here that I knew I could count on.
They said they would send someone over right away, and that they’d be over in about 20 minutes, and I’m guessing they should show up sometime soon considering how long it’s taken me to write this. I’m going to post this now, and I’ll either do an update or I might even follow this up if I get any more big news.
Thanks for listening at least... even if the cop wouldn’t believe my story… I at least know that some of you guys might… I’m gonna sign off for now since I think the cop might be pulling up, but I’ll respond to anyone’s comments if I can, and I’ll update you guys if I can.
