2 y/o LG refrigerator not cooling. No idea what to do. appliancerepair

Freezer thawed first ruining a a lot of food.

I called a repair guy who told me that it was a main board issue, but that replacement boards were all on back order right now and wouldn't be available for a few weeks.

I googled up the part and replaced it myself. No dice.

Turns out the initial repair guy doesn't want to have anything to do with compressor or sealed system repair and was "just following LG diagnostic procedure". That procedure apparently consists of collecting an $80 service charge and hitting the road.

Upon further investigation:

  • Opened up the inside panel and didn't see any obvious signs of freezing.

  • Compressor seems to be running (or at least making noise)

  • It has been unplugged and reset multiple times.

  • Cleaned the coils with a vacuum and compressed air as well as I could manage.

I called up LG and it looks like I'm a year past my 1 year warranty, but I still have "parts coverage". That might be okay if anyone was actually willing to look at a compressor or sealed system. I've called every "authorized technician" on LG's list with no luck and I'm currently going through a list of all other local appliance repair guys. This is a Dallas suburb, but it might as well be the north pole considering the response I'm getting from local repair guys.

I've already spent $280 on a useless goddamn main board. Am I really about to pay a fee to throw away a $3000 refrigerator that's less than 2 years old?
