Frigidaire GLRS234ZAW1 smoking starter-PTC appliancerepair

Earlier today I was cleaning the inside of my refrigerator. A few minutes after spraying a solution inside of it I started smelling smoke come out of the back of it. I quickly unplugged the fridge and pulled off the cardboard. I found some sticky residue on and below the starter-PTC. I cleaned all of this stuff off and connected it back together. When i plugged the fridge back in i could see some smoke coming out of the red wire on the starter-PTC. It sounded like the compressor kicked in fine. Doing a bit of research I am finding alternating opinions on using a SUPCO 3 in 1 as a replacement. I ordered - http://ift.tt/2s1i6pb. My question - Can I use the SUPCO device for the long run or should i buy a direct replacement of the PTC? Is there a way to tell if the compressor is going bad and its time to find a new refrigerator or if the starter-PTC is the only thing needing to be replaced? (I shook it and it does rattle) - Up until about 2 hours ago I've never heard of a PTC or SUPCO 3 in 1 so sorry if my explanations make no sense. I appreciate any help or advice given!!
