UPDATE: Holiday/Maytag/Whirlpool NS207NW Refrigerator not wanting to cool properly, need some guidance appliancerepair

Holiday Model NS207NW Serial 11872730KS

Ok, basically to recap... last week we had some severe storms/near tornadoes. In the process the power was knocked out for a few hours before kicking back on, I was at work. After that for the next several days it was noticeable that the fridge did not seem to want to kick off and on properly. It would just sit there for what seemed like an eternity. I took an infrared thermometer and would see the fridge at 35-40 degrees but on the freezer side it would go from the single digits to the teens and twenties when I would randomly check, a couple of times at almost 32 degrees. So everything in the fridge and freezer had to go.

Checking the compressor it was very warm to hot to the touch, so I've gone in and there was a TON of dust that needed to be cleaned out, it was definitely needing that. My bad there. The condenser coils are shielded and I could not figure out how to pull it the coils/fan out from the back to get in there and clean it properly so I cleaned them as best as I could through the gaps in the fan blades with a brush and compressed air.

After cleaning and throwing everything out today on my day off and dusting it out I plugged it in and it started up. Checked the freezer side and the temperature was going down. Ok I'm thinking, maybe that was all it was.

Later I noticed that it was stopped and hadn't been on for awhile so I opened the freezer side and waited to see if it would kick on, then opened up the fridge side... both doors open for several minutes, nothing.

Shut the doors and about five minutes later I heard it finally kick on.

The fan is working because I've got great air flow. The inside wall of the fridge feels nice and cool, nothing to suggest it's freezing up... in fact everything about it seems normal except it not wanting to kick off and on properly.

To play it safe I went ahead the other day and ordered a thermostat (Whirlpool Part Number 52085-29). My gut feeling being maybe the power outage might have done something to it. If I remember correctly a few years back I had to get someone to replace the thermostat before. And I'm thinking if the door is open and it's just sitting there not wanting to kick on then it has to be the thermostat, right?

I'm not a repair man but I have done maintenance on my washer and dryer, as I would like to learn how to fix my appliances... picked up plenty of books and watch a lot of videos on YouTube trying to learn more. Right now as a single dad I would have to pull off a miracle to buy a new fridge, I'm paycheck to paycheck, and this one has been a good reliable fridge, so if I can fix it on my own all the better. But to be safe it's all canned and box goods for the moment until I know this fridge is keeping everything cooled properly.

Can someone point me in the right direction as to what may be wrong, how to check for it, and if I'm right and it's the thermostat how I might find the step by step procedures to get to it and replace it?

Any guidance would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.
