Hello all, I recently purchased a '91 Chevy G30 Coachman camper van. After a lot of thought, it seemed to make the most sense given what I wanted in a van and what I feel incapable of actually building myself (ex. a overhead bed/high top). It has a generator that I plan to remove and convert to strictly electrical/solar. I was very confident about this purchase, and I got a mechanically sound vehicle.
That being said, I want to make a lot of internal customizations that I feel uneasy about mostly because I am in the dark on how to do so. I have thought about removing the primary fold out bed and adding a retractable work station, debated removing the toilet or leaving it and finding a way to make the area more than just a space consuming toilet, rearranging or minimizing the space consumed by the refrigerator/microwave combo, replacing the gas stove with a convection stove (not sure if anything else runs off the propane), etc.
Does anyone have experience or suggestions for customizing a coachman build? Am I doing more damage than good by wanting to make changes (other than solar, that's a MUST!)? I have time to learn and JUST purchased the van this weekend, I won't be moving into it full time for another 10 months.
Help or encouragement would be amazing right now. I know 100% this is the lifestyle I am confidently pursuing, presumably for at least 6 mos to a year, but I woke up this morning feeling anxiety about the ability to make the prebuilt coachman build more suited to my needs and comfort. I want my home to be my own, like rearranging furniture in a bedroom per se.
Thank you.
