Where can I find really big cheap/free cardboard boxes? houston

My friend's son can't really trick or treat door to door. It's too much stimulation and new situations can be tough for him rather than fun, and he has some diet restrictions. So we want to craft some cardboard mini haunted houses in the back yard for him to trick or treat in a familiar place, so he can have a similar experience, and we can celebrate Halloween the way we traditionally do.

Where can I find big cardboard boxes that adults could comfortably sit in a folding chair in? Refrigerator size at the smallest. I don't have much in the way of a budget or I'd just go to a uhaul store or something, but I can do like $20 total and was hoping for at Least 3 houses.

Hurricane Scavenging houston

My house flooded and my family lost about 80% of everything we own. Some gracious volunteers took the contents of my house and put it in a nice at the curb for the county to remove. I'm amazed that people have been coming up to my house and digging through the pile, which includes such items as my soaked undergarments, toiletries that were stored below the water line, and other assorted household goods. I'm fine with people taking things like refrigerators, but this feels so invasive. Maybe I'm displacing my grief and frustration, but it seems like such an indignity. Am I wrong to feel this way?

A punch list to remember when dealing with flood damage and remediation. houston

Hey Houston! Keep your chin up. You got this. A list of things I learned post-Katrina. Take pictures of everything before you do any repairs, including the walls.

SUPPLY LIST:

• half face respirator with magenta cartridges, and a backup (One per person.)
• good working flashlight
• extra batteries
• first aid kit
• duct tape
• large blue tarps
• flat pry bar (wonder bar)
• mini-sledge or maul
• safety eye wear
• box cutters
• waders
• thick rubber gloves
• leather gloves
• heavy soled rubber boots
• ice
• plenty of drinking water
• food (premade sandwiches et al)
• coolers/ice chests
• hand sanitizer
• rubber straps
• tie downs
• dolly
• plastic totes
• towels
• bleach spray solution

• damp rid ...

• 1) Bring proper supplies to go into damaged areas. Assume there will be NO way to get anything besides what you bring in. It's like camping, in a terrible campsite.

• 2) The refrigerator. DO NOT OPEN IT. IT IS NOT SALVAGEABLE. YOU WILL VOMIT. Wrap it with duct tape or straps, wheel it out on your dolly to the curb. REPEAT. DO NOT OPEN IT.

• 3) Cut carpet in sections, roll up, duct tape, and carry out to curb.

• 4) Most everything you have is not salvageable if wet for long (48h or more). You can save: porcelain, cash, glassware, jewelry. Clothing is virtually ruined, even if it was not in the floodwaters, the mold smell will permeate.

• 5) Remove mattresses to the curb. Mold will grow about anywhere, and quickly.

• 6) If you have documented everything, you can break open the dry wall. There is a seam at 4 feet up, so if water damage is below that, you may want to keep your holes in the bottom half of the sheet rock/dry wall.

Once you have opened up the walls, ensure the home is relatively safe and locked as best you can. Remove items of immediate value to a looter and put them on the curb. Don't stick around much longer.

I'll add more to this as I think about it.

Turn your A/C OFF and if you have expensive electronic equipment that's not plugged into a UPS, UNPLUG it.

Computers frequently get burned-up power supplies when surges come in from lightning.

Brown-outs (120 VAC dropping to 40 or 60 volts due to malfunctions caused by lightning) can destroy any motorized devices, like air conditioners. Even refrigerators can fall victim, but hell, I ain't unplugging mine.

Need some advice for my struggling mom houston

Hey everyone,

I'll try to keep this short.

My mom is struggling to find work and is dead broke. She has some form of schizophrenia and takes medication, but she's kind of a quirky individual because of this. She has held numerous temp jobs over the last few years, but nothing pans out. Im sure her illness impacts her ability to retain a job.

I'm currently a grad student and live in another state. She recently told me she doesn't have enough food or money to pay rent. I gave her what I could to cover her expenses, but this isn't sustainable because I'm not exactly making money. She also isn't carless with her expenses, as her apartment and refrigerator have the bare minimum in it. She doesn't drink or do drugs either. She's just poor.

I don't know what to do for her. We're not incredibly close, but I'd be devastated if she became homeless. She's an incredibly sweet woman who volunteers all the time. She means well, she's just sick.

Can anyone recommend any type of assistance she might be able to receive or organizations she can reach out to? I'm trying to make a game plan for her to get help immediately so she doesn't end up on the street.

Our neighbor is insane houston

Apparently he does not pay rent, but lives with the woman who does (as explained to her by us when they moved in). He goes off his meds and starts screaming obscenities about once every week or so. When he's by himself he slams doors, kicks walls, breaks vases... not sure what he does up there but it sounds like he knocks over the refrigerator last night. Our apartment managers refuse to do anything about him, though they say they've given them warnings. They claim they work for Homeland Security, which makes the whole thing really weird. He continues to scare the shit out of us since we live directly below the apartment and this will last well into 1 or 2 AM on week nights. We're still locked into a year long lease and these people just moved in. We just want to live peacefully as we've been doing the last year. We tried to deal with the issue of loudness with them when they first moved in and thought we had it resolved (we even baked cookies for them). But now with the crazy behavior, I'm too afraid to approach them. Is there anything we can do?

Where can you sell an antique safe the size of a refrigerator? houston

Boss died and dissolved the company. For what ever reason I was left the company safe, free on contents. Thing weighs about 2 tons at least, needed a front loader to move it with men hanging off the back for ballast. Problem is I don't need it. It belonged to the Stratford hotel on Fannin, hotel was built in 1912, torn down in 1956. After doing homework it's worth about $6k, but I don't have the slightest idea how to sell it. Not something you can just put on Ebay.

Please help with my apartment complex! houston

I have lived in Chateaux Dijon for almost 2 years now. In that time, I have had my refrigerator, stove/oven, 2 faucets, my showerhead, and garbage disposal all replaced, on top of my A/C being repaired multiple times AND replaced completely. This morning when I woke up, I found that my hot water wasn't working. In the 2 years of living there, it has been out AT LEAST 30-40 days total. I've waited days for my appliances to be replaced. So, it's nice to have all new stuff, but I've had to be without them for days at a time. When I went to them saying it was BS that literally every appliance I had broke, their reply was, "At least you have all new stuff." Yeah... but it shouldn't all have broken! When I have said something regarding hot water and not being able to shower for work, they have replied, "You can't go to work without a shower?" Of course I can. The point is I shouldn't have to! They have told me multiple times to just wet a towel and drape it over my head to wet my hair. They have made no attempt to reconcile or ever even admit wrong doing. They've never offered any discount from anything, despite the fact that I'm not getting the services I have paid for. I'm just wondering what can possibly be done, if anything.
