About the objects that you can gather. dayz

A while ago the devs added this refrigerator and IIRC they planned on using it in houses.

Do they plan on removing the static refrigerator props in the houses and using this container as replacement ? (you can then imagine some food spawning inside of it)

Imo it would be really cool if they progressively replace every prop with an object that you can use (sit on a chair, put stuff on a table, lie in a bed, ...), carry around for base building or barricading (you would need two guys to carry a bed for example) or just to loot them (you can destroy a bed using a saw and it gives you wood).

I think it's something that can be great gameplay/immersion/RP wise and make the map feel less static.

We need chains and padlocks. dayz

Chains:

Towing

Chaining up infected

Improvised Roadblock

Chain up player (no wiggling out)

etc.

Padlocks:

Lock gear into locker

Craft small box, add padlock w/key = locked stash box

Lock up gates

Improvised way of barricading doors

Lock up refrigerators/global stash spots

Craft with rag to create improvised sap (melee weapon)

etc..

What do you think you would do with chain or padlocks? Both? I'd chain up infected in towns to trees, posts. Leave them as watchdogs and whatnot at my camp, etc..

The Warrior of the Well [OBA STORY] dayz

OBA Story= One big ass story, read at the expense of your own health.

It all started on the 32/50 full Victory Gamerz Public server an hour ago...

Twas the 6th day I had stuck to my new home of Novy Petrovka, gathering loot and stashing it away with my now every growing collection of ghillie suits and rifles, and after beefing up my Mosin with a compensator, 5RND clip, PU scope, and ghillie wrap, I felt unstoppable! Now ready to set out East in search of an encounter, it occurred to me that in my nearly 250+ hours of game time, my eyes had never seen the city of Severograd. So I set off down the road amongst the trees to my new destination.

From what I can remember since my suppressed demise at Myshkino the first week of .58, I hadn't technically seen many players since I woke up on the beaches of Elektro. Seen them? Very much so, from Myshkino to Zelenogorsk and even far south as Balota. Engaged them? Not once, though a few times were tempting. Exploring the North brings an entirely new fight or flight experience to the game, every man knows what they are getting into and expects no mercy, however...nobody expects a survivor that sucks ass at shooting!

So lets cut to the chase, I made it to Severograd and I was super excited to finally enter this new town, when IMMEDIATELY I realized something was not right at all. Hopping the western fence, the first object I came across was a Minsk Refrigerator, and obviously took a look inside: An active heatpack.

Instantaneously, I ducked into a two story industrial building, sitting between a few sewing machines I frantically calculated my next move. Assuming that because the heatpack was activated and bright red, it hadn't been more than a few minutes since a player placed it in the fridge, and that more than likely he or she was lurking around the city in search of a player like myself. The worst scenario was officially a reality, I was now left to face the fight with absolutely ZERO idea of the geographical layout, aside from the forests.

My primary tactic to engage people is from unnoticed angles and ridiculous ranges, I follow the trees and always have a ghillie hood on to mask my face from an enemy's glance. However now, the ghillie only did the opposite at this point. I only had my mosin and a magnum, though ammo was certainly plentiful in my bag, I was afraid what I was up against was a close quarter skirmish to my untimely and abrupt death.

Oh how wrong I was...

At this point and roughly a minute after first crouching down, I immediately remembered the treeline to the south, an area with just enough cover to slip out of sight, but also just enough to pop an eye to overlook the city and confirm or deny my fears. Retracing my path, I ran back out past the refrigerator and started up the first terraced hill.

Timing my steps and keeping an eye over my shoulder, I easily cleared the first two terraces and it was at the arrival of the third and final one before the treeline, that I immediately noticed a well.

Rather than run away from the well I chose to strafe across towards the back of the house adjacent to it, and no sooner than I had passed by the well that the shots of an AK74 rang out, 5 METERS TO MY RIGHT.

"RATATATATATATA....RATATATA!" went the rifle, sending me scrambling in the opposite direction for the closest building, I counted at least 15 shots in the moment of pure adrenaline, but I couldn't stop running! Parallel to the last terraced hill I literally ran and jumped fences for my life, hearing the well-camping psychopath with the AK sending noise in my direction.

Three houses down I immediately decided I had made enough distance, shut all of the doors in the one story orange and yellow house I was in, and proceeded to lock the front door with my lockpick, only to now realize I was sitting in the housing agency's equivalent of a "Swiss Cheese Block", EIGHT windows surrounded me. At this moment, I knew I had fucked up.

Scrambling to act before I heard any footsteps or more gunshots, I looked briefly around the house to find the savior of home defense, the IZH Shotgun. Thanking myself for grabbing shells not 5 minutes before, I loaded the ammo and waited prone aimed at the front door...

15 minutes had passed since the god awfully bad shooter had first unloaded on me, and the worst of it was that I had ABSOLUTELY no idea where the shooter was at, and knew that NOW was my chance to make a run for it before things possibly got worse. Without thinking I shot both rounds into the doorframe, blasting it wide open, and ran straight out and around back to the final terrace, switching my Mosin into my hands.

Once making it up the hill, I laid underneath the massive cover of a pine tree, squinting through the trees with my binoculars in the hopes of seeing any sign of the shooter.

20 more minutes passed in completely silence, albeit the buzzing fly here and there.

Never in my entire game time had I had such a near-heart-attack experience before, and now can safely say I narrowly avoided death at the hands of a player that COULD NOT aim to save his life.

Thank you based Well

If you made it this far, you're fucking savage, enough said.

Refrigerators = Trading stations?? [WOBO Server] dayz

Hi I'm ShadoW! I had an idea and set in motion a trading station across Chernarus. Refrigerators are perfect opportunity to have a place people can trade items and help each other out. And can be used as a sort of Billboard and Meet up place in the game.

On the WOBO server I found 4 refrigerators:

In Cernaya Polana JUNK YARD x3

By the road in Svergino x1

MAP

There I left some stuff: food, clothes, pens, some empty paper and these NOTES

People actually left stuff and wrote their names/dates which I found really cool. I've just started with this on WOBO server and with YOUR help it could spread across the Chernarus and even on different servers if people catch on.

imagine

Meeting a random survivor and hearing from him that there is a place where he could find some goodies if he's lucky.

imagine

The more people try something like this more of a chance for interaction and player-generated meet up places.

WHAT DO: Leave if possible two papers and a pen. One for writing names and other with explanation. Also leave some stuff you really don't need, it might help someone.

Question Regarding oil barrels/Minsk Refrigerator dayz

Just started playing again today and came across a barrel in a shed. It was in a pretty secluded area so I dumped some gear in there for safe keeping.

I couldn't find much information on barrels and refrigerators but I assumed they were randomly placed on the map. But now I'm reading players actually have to set them up after they find one. Is this true? Because If that's the case I put my gear in someone elses barrel.

Thanks for the assistance.

Something I hope to see in the game: More doors. dayz

New guns are nice, and survival gear is very nice, but if the art department is working with a busy programming staff and needs something to make that already has programming, then why not doors?

No, not just a sea of doors in the wild, or an extra door for every house. I am talking about real doors on the cabinets, refrigerators, wardrobes, night stands (drawers), etc. These areas would make looting a lot more like, well, looting. Rather than skimming a house, you tear it apart, and you may be able to tell just from walking in that someone has looted it.

So it's more immersive and it helps identify a looted house from one that just never spawned loot. This will help ease the minds of those who are suspecting a loot bug.

Learning to Reason with the Dealers of Death (Kinda Short Story) dayz

To whom ever finds this:

The sun was shinning with earnest on the pavement as my friend and I ran across the Airfield. We had finally found some decent weapons, nothing like some crazy people we have seen but enough to protect us for a short time. We approached a barrack with caution as we noticed the doors were open. We were in and out in less the minute, and by god were we happy! Two magazines for an AKM and a grenade all in one room!

As we inched our way towards the prison the crack of bullets broke the calm and in an instant everything changed. I was hit, but thankfully my vest took the brunt of the bullet. My friend was bleeding as it seemed he was grazed in the arm. We ran as fast as we could with the masked assailants right on our heels. They would take pot shots at us from time to time, but our sporadic movements kept us alive.

We spotted a house with only one way and one way out. My friend made it inside but those dam walkers forced me away. I hid in a building behind my friend, cowering behind an old refrigerator. I peeked out the window and saw one of them, so I began to shoot. Well I tried to shoot, my lack of stamina and throbbing pain in my chest made aiming impossible. I made it clear to the men that I was not going to go quiet.

Before I knew it they were outside. They began to reload all their magazines to scare us, but I wasn't to be deterred. At first they thought my friend and I were in the same building, so I thought I may have a chance at killing them, but I noticed that bullet I took to my vest ruined all but a few shots left for my rifle. Suddenly the outcome looked bleak. I reached into the deep pockets of my cargo pants and felt the cold metal sphere that was going to be my ticket to see my family. I pulled out the grenade and looked at it for a bit. I radioed to my friend that it was time, and he told me the cold barrel of his shotgun was already nestled under his chin.

I gave my demands, declaring that all of my gear they wanted was going to go up in flames if they didn't let us free. I told my friend to lay down his gun and wait, I had a feeling I may still get another chance to tread the sweet soil of Earth. They spoke and told us to come out with no weapon on our person and with our hands raised. I heard so many stories of people being betrayed and lied to that their proposal was not to appealing. Something told me this time was different, so I told my friend if it all goes south, at least we fought side by side till the end. We walked out of our building together and were greeted by harsh demands and constant threats. Surprisingly, bullets were not waiting for us. We could not speak to each other, but I could see my friend crack a smile. A smile that we may soon be on our way again.

What seemed like hours passed by. We reasoned with the men to let us keep our stuff. They removed our ammo and whatever else they wanted, and to my surprise let us take our gear back. It was then that the human connection was made. It was then that I realized buried behind all their gear were two friends fighting against the odds to survive. I thanked them for letting us live and right before we were about to leave my friend cranked out his old polaroid camera and asked if we could take a group photo. The men agreed and we snapped a photo with the Dealers of Death. We left with haste into the trees, not once looking back.

That night before my friend and I caught some shut eye we realized how important life really is. The true value of friendship even coming from those who most would deem hostile, was truly amazing. So I am thankful to have the ability to write this to anyone who finds it. Remember that in order to achieve what life has to offer, you need to get down to what unites everyone. Even the Dealers of Death have common ground, it is up to you to find it.

God Speed Survivors!
