Minecraft 1.14: The Furniture Update minecraftsuggestions

[Please take your time to read the entire post before voting or commenting. Bear in mind that we already have furniture in Minecraft (beds, armor stands, doors) and my suggestions isn't only about adding more furniture, but changing the entire furniture-acquiring concept.]

# INTRODUCTION #

Since we already know what the 1.13 update is going to focus on, I decided to suggest plans for the future 1.14 release. So, let's get straight on it. Furniture in Minecraft is something that many people have been waiting for a long time. We have many mods and addons that offer amazing furniture models that look amazing in game. Now, I don't suggest adding any "extreme" pieces of furniture like kitchen sinks or refrigerators, but some basic ones such as chairs, tables, lamps, tool stands, etc. My idea doesn't focus only on adding more furniture. No, it's about adding an entire new mechanic in the game that will feature finding different furniture blueprints and using a furniture workstation that is able to craft different pieces of furniture using all sorts of materials rather than default crafting recipes. Since 1.13 will remove the block ID limit, adding new blocks won't be a problem. I'll separate the post in a few categories so it's easier to read.

# BLOCKS #

Workstation

The first step to getting furniture is crafting a Workstation (recipe: http://ift.tt/2wRzBKU). This block works similarly to the crafting table, but it creates furniture instead. Right clicking it will open up its GUI which looks something like this - http://ift.tt/2xT1nWK . As you can see from the image, the GUI consists of 4 different tabs.

  • The first tab is divided in 3 parts. The first part contains all the unlocked furniture categories (e.g. beds). Clicking on a category will bring up all the unlocked furniture pieces in that category in the second part (e.g. white bed). Clicking on a piece of furniture will show the required materials in the third part of the window. Below the materials the furniture's name will be displayed, as well as the time needed for it to be crafted. If the Workstation has the required materials, the "Craft" button will be green and clicking it will add the item to the crafting tab and start the crafting process. Crafting will take items from the materials tab, not from your inventory. The two arrow buttons on the sides of the "Craft" button allow you to cycle between different recipes for the same item (e.g. beds can be crafted with 5 different types of wood planks). If an item's background is red, it means that the Workstation doesn't have the required materials to create it. Locked recipes won't show at all.

  • The second tab is where you put all the materials. When selected, your inventory is shown and you can add materials in the Workstation. Only materials for furniture that is currently unlocked can be put inside (e.g. if only the beds are unlocked, you can put only wood planks and wool inside). By default, the Workstation can store only 1 chest row of materials (9 slots).

  • The third tab is the crafting tab. This is where the items that are being crafted are shown. On each slot you can see the item's icon with a specific color background. If the color is yellow, the item is still being crafted (howering over it will show the time remaining). If it's green, then it's ready and you can put it in your inventory. A newly created Workstation can craft up to 9 items at a time.

  • The fourth tab is where all the upgrades and unlocks are placed. On the first row, there are the Workstation Tokens (more info later). All the other rows contain the Blueprints. Each blueprint has its own specific slot where it can be put (the icon contains the outline of the item, similar to the lapis lazuli slot in the enchanment table). When a Workstation is crafted, it comes with a set of default blueprints (they are the same every time): Bed (0:05), Door (0:05), Boat (0:07). You can take them out of the Workstation at any given time, but that will "lock" those items from being created.

When you break a Workstation, it will drop all of its materials + the crafted furniture if it has any, but it won't drop the blueprints and the tokens. They will stay inside and will remain the same when the Workstation is placed again.

Drawing Board

The drawing board is where you can create new blueprints. This works similarly to the enchanting table. You put an empty blueprint and you select one of three blueprint options. The higher level you have, the better blueprint you'll get. Empty blueprints are crafted with a piece of paper + lapis lazuli (since they are blue, duh).

# ITEMS #

Blueprint

Blueprints can be acquired by finding them in treasure chests, creating them via the Drawing Board or trading with villages. A blueprint is similar to an enchanted book. It is the same item, but has different attributes. The same way you find an enchanted book containing the enchantment "Unbreaking III", you can find a blueprint that contains the recipe for "Wooden Chairs". Along with the recipe name, the time required to craft it is also displayed. Different durations can be found that can vary from X to Y seconds. A blueprint with the smallest possible duration is considered to be the best of that kind (every item has different minimum and maximum duration).

This is a small list of blueprints I came up with, including the current items that can be moved in the Workstation, thus having their default crafting table recipes removed. (the numbers in brackets show the minimum and maximum crafting times that can be found)

  • (0:01 - 0:05) Beds (all wool colors)
  • (0:01 - 0:05) Default Doors (all wooden doors + iron door)
  • (0:01 - 0:03) Trapdoors (wooden + iron + gold)
  • (0:01 - 0:07) Boats (all wooden boats)
  • (0:06 - 0:20) Minecarts
  • (0:05 - 0:15) Armor Stand
  • (0:01 - 0:03) Flower Pot
  • (0:03 - 0:10) Painting
  • (0:01 - 0:03) Item Frame
  • (0:10 - 0:30) Tool Stand (same as the armor stand, but in this one you put tools instead)
  • (0:08 - 0:25) Item Stand (this one can display an item as if it was dropped on the ground; right clicking on it will display a GUI where you can put one item)
  • (0:05 - 0:20) Wooden Chairs (all different wood types)
  • (0:08 - 0:30) Stone Chair (right clicking on chairs will allow you to sit on them)
  • (0:08 - 0:30) Wooden Tables (all different wood types)
  • (0:10 - 0:35) Stone Table (as simple as a fence with a pressure plate on top, but connects properly when multiple are put together and looks more fancy)
  • (0:03 - 0:10) Wooden Lamps (all different wood types) (right clicking toggles the lamp on/off)
  • (0:05 - 0:10) Wooden Shelf (can store up to 5 books)
  • (0:01 - 0:05) Campfire (has netherrack at the pottom so it can burn forever; can be lit up and extinguished)
  • (0:18 - 1:00) Reinforced Chest (iron + obsidian chest that is explosion-proof)

I would like to see more furniture suggestions in the comments section.

Workstation Token

Found in treasure chests. Each token has different attributes and has a specific slot in the Workstation's upgrades tab.

  • Storage capacity 1 - 6: each level adds 1 row in the materials tab, allowing you to store more materials. Level 6 is the same as a double chest. A newly crafted Workstation is automatically equiped with level 1.
  • Crafting capacity 9 - 30: the maximum number of items that can be crafted at the same time. A newly crafted Workstation is automatically equiped with level 9.

# STRUCTURES #

Workshop

The Workshop is a type of a villager house that has a very rare chance of generating. Inside it there is a Workstation that has a random recipe that you can take, surrounded by a bunch of wooden chairs and a table.

# MOBS #

Architect

Not a new mob, but a villager profession. The Architect has a rare (or a common) blueprint in one of his trades.

# ADVANCEMENTS #

  • [Home Decoration] - craft a Workstation and create your first piece of furniture.
  • [Blue Paper] - use the Drawing Board to create a blueprint.
  • [Master Architect] (challenge advancement) - have all the different blueprints in a single Workstation.

[PS: Yes, I know that "boats" aren't exactly furniture, but they are created in a "Workstation" and the word furniture won't actually be used anywhere in the game, so we can fit all kinds of "objects" in there.]
