I need better sleep. Starting to get tired of it. ParanormalHelp

I don't know how to explain it, but I believe the mild paranormal phenomena is connect to my own psyche or my husband's. I'm limited in what I can share and have no clue about this connect. I will say that I have made HUGE steps away from negativity. Don't want to bore anyone. I don't know much or what to add.

Now twelve, my son has been afraid of the shadows for years. At his request, we installed a small lamp for him years ago. I wish I had known. Lately, his fear has grown even though he is more rational-thinking. I allow him to leave the overhead light on now. When I'm there, admittedly, it creeps me out. Neither of us has actually seen anything in that dark corner. I notice, sometimes, the darkness is DARKER. It's a creepy sensation and my son insists that someone is watching him from that spot. I believe him. He handles it well when the light is on or it's not bedtime, but there's no sense in my little boy being terrified at night. I hate this.

His sister, two years younger, has fessed up to hearing things. Here's her psych take on it all: "I tell you what. If I ever see a book come off the shelf or something like that, I'd just walk over, pick it up, put it back and act like that never happened." Thus, she's not spooked, but doesn't argue against anything being there.

My daughter, when at a tender age, fessed to seeing a "mask". She was scared about it, but she was too young for clarity. I dismissed it as eye tricks and she's carried that fearless mentality ever sense. Now older, she and her brother, both children, admit to hearing keyboard activity when all are asleep. They swear it. They act as if they're not spooked. We're a bunch of geeks and have electronics all over the place including 4 computers with 2 of them being in their shared room.

Two nights ago my 2 children and I were on the living room floor playing with legos. I'm in a self absorbed state while blabbering on about nonsense when I notice my daughter look deliberately toward the short darkened hallway leading to the bathroom. She looks to me briefly to keep me satisfied of her concentration on what I'm saying, but cannot help and steals away another solid look as if she's trying to figure out something.

"What is it?" I asked. She said it was the shuffle of her Dad's socked feet in the hallway (as if he were going to the bathroom). Her Dad was in the bedroom asleep. I got up to make sure.

I've heard his footsteps on the second floor while living on the first floor of his other house years before. At that moment he was sitting at his computer in the room. The footsteps were from something else, but it mimicked his booted steps exactly. It's a distinguished step. Never happened again. That didn't spook me, because:

My husband has died and come back. His experience wasn't the typical heavenly type. He has tried to explain it, but really cannot. He says the point of reference is other-worldly making it indescribable. He was sent back, pulled back he says. He also told me he was sent back to take care of me. He had received a description of me physically and emotionally years before we met. I once asked his brother to confirm this. His brother nodded yes, but in a manner that eluded he did not want to discuss it at all. His brother's face was turning white, in fact.

Okay. This is getting long. Whatever.

Okay, my husband is 6 foot 6 and LOOKS like a sociopath. Truly, he's an Aspie and a gentle bear at heart, loyal to the bone and finally happy to have a wife that won't screw him over. Totally sweet. Totally a victim of an abusive sociopathic father and narcissistic mother. He just wants to be alone and live in peace.

HOwever, we live in a small town of willfully ignorant peoples who are highly suggestive to spooky things and also highly superstitious. I hate it because they expect women to be demure, seen but not heard and definitely no smart women are acceptable lest they step on a man's ego. So, with a little manipulation over the years and my husband's own fearless odd behavior (he loves freaking people), he's a town legend. According to the legend, he's a vampire and has dead bodies buried in his back yard.

You getting the negative vibes around all this?

So years go by, two children are born and I'm lying in bed last night right in that almost-dream-state stupor and a noise from the kitchen wakes me up. The refrigerator is loud on its own. This is a noise I usually drown out, because the frig is necessary and all that. But what I come to realize is

  1. I've been hearing a select noise for years, but never paid attention.

  2. This noise is loud and the mechanics of a refrigerator does not fit the sound.

In the morning I investigate and consider paranormal activity. Nothing is out of place. I consider and liken the sound to a type of slapping noise, like that of a metal yard stick being slapped atop the linoleum. The house is a wreck from years of quakes so I look carefully often pulling, prodding, nudging and checking for things out of place.

I focus on the fridge because that's the direction the noise is coming and I look on top around and under. Nothing there that could move independently and make that slapping noise. All the while I'm coming to realize I've been hearing this noise for years. I've always considered it to be fridge mechanics, but you know.... I never hear it during the day.

Last night as I was lying in bed realizing all this, I could have swore I saw an orb, but I was spooked and I'm a bit too skeptical and called it eye tricks.

I kept searching and I found the source: magnets on the refrigerator. I took the magnets off and slammed them onto the front of the refrigerator until I perfectly mimicked the sound. It took a while because the quiet "thud" of my hand threw the sound off. When I throw it just right when I'm not touching the magnet as it slams into the refrigerator, that's it. Once I got it down I called my son into the kitchen and showed him how to make the noise by slamming the magnet onto the frig. Then, I went to the bed where I was when I heard it last night and told him "Now." He through the magnet onto the frig. Mind you, this requires a great force and agility, too. That part unnerves me, actually.

I'm not sure what we're going to do tonight to begin testing this theory. After the kids heard the noise from the other room, they admit to hearing this noise... like it sounds very familiar but they cannot pinpoint it.

It's because they've been hearing it while they're sleeping.

Over the course of the last month I've had a lot of negative thoughts and the feeling that something is watching me. This is so pervasive that I immediately think and say "NO.", because it seems real and I'm NOT about to let something on me or let something fuck with me. But I'm also inclined to think this is in my head.

Here's the deal. I took a benadryl last night to sleep. I was drifting off when the slap in the kitchen woke me. The first thought on my mind was that damned dark corner. Consequently, that damned dark corner that spooks my son is exactly on the opposite side of the wall as the refrigerator in the other room.

I don't want to do anything to make this worse. My gut instinct is ignore the f'r. My gut instinct is telling me this f'r WANTS us to acknowledge it, so it can grow.

Even I don't want to type on here about it, but what else am I going to do? I damn well ain't going to invite it.

Thanks for reading and if you have any suggestions, let me know. I might see about contacting someone about it, but honestly I think it might make it worse.
