TIFU by microwaving a bowl of noodles with very little water tifu

As always, this didn't happen today.

At the time this story occurred I worked in an office with at least 100 employees, in a high-rise office building. Our office had a small kitchenette (sink, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot) where everyone (obviously) kept and cooked the lunches they brought from home. On this day I brought a bowl of noodles I'd picked up at the grocery story the day before. It was a brand I'd never had before, and they looked delicious.

This was a new experience for me. I've bought the regular "cup o noodles" before, but I'd never bought noodles in a bowl like this. The instructions on a cup usually say something like "add water to cover noodles," or there's a line you're supposed to fill to, but not this bowl... The instructions on the package were VERY unclear. "Add 1/2 water" was all it said. 1/2 what? 1/2 teaspoon? 1/2 cup? I went with 1/2 cup. It meant 1/2 bowl, which would've been about 2 cups. Having cooked literally hundreds of packs of ramen noodles, and knowing that every package of ramen says to use 2 cups of water, I should've known...

It's also important to note that, in an effort to be as productive as possible, I had a habit of putting my food in the microwave and going back to my desk while it cooked. My desk was not near the kitchenette. I smelled my mistake from my desk...

The fumes given off by those noodles being microwaved with no (or not enough) water was fucking horrible. If they weren't toxic I'd be very, very surprised. My throat burned for DAYS after doing this. I can only imagine how horrible it must've been for those who sat closer to the microwave. I ran from my desk back to the kitchen, knowing full well what was happening. When I got there the room was filled with smoke, and to this day I don't know how it didn't set off a fire alarm. Anyways, I opened the microwave door, and using a handful of paper towels as a pot holder I removed the smoking remains from within.. the only thing I could think to do with it was throw it in the sink and run some water over it. That stopped the burning, and after a couple minutes they were cool enough for me to throw the mess in the garbage.

I haven't bought a bowl of dry noodles since, and can't even look at a cup-o-noodles without being reminded of my idiocy.

TL:DR: Learned that microwaving noodles with no water creates a chemical weapon, which is probably banned by the Geneva Convention.
