Is it overkill to dedicate one surge protector to one piece of equipment? electricians

Let's say you have 10 refrigerators or 10 computers, and each one has a single power cord. Is there any benefit to giving each of those their own surge protector? Would this be dependent on if the outlets in use each belong to their own circuit?

It is my understanding that circuit breakers only trip if the amperage is too high. And surge protectors prevent too high of a voltage from getting to whatever you have plugged in.

Does one device per surge protector offer better protection than 2 devices per surge protector? what about 5 or 10 devices per surge protector?
