Why don't people rent fridges? NoStupidQuestions

Fridges are expensive. You can spend a good $2000+ on a quality refrigerator.

Yet, warranties these days only last for 1 year! After one year, if the fridge fails, you still have to continue to pay for the fridge. Or get a new one.

It hence becomes the manufacturers' best interest to make the warranty as short as possible, and for the product to just last as long as the warranty. That way they get a steady stream of income.

So, I don't get - Why are people still buying fridges? Instead of renting them?

If you rent a fridge, and anything goes wrong with it, you call up the company and tell them to come fix/replace it. It shouldn't cost you anything, because you are already paying a monthly fee.

If they take too long, then you stop paying them, and rent a fridge from some other company.

From the manufacturer's perspective: If they get a steady stream of rent money, and they only have to come by if anything goes wrong with the fridge, it's in their best interest to give you a fridge that will last a long time.

Yet, people still seem to prefer to own the fridge.

Do consumers feel like they will get lucky, and have a long lasting fridge, unlike everyone else?

Or are they used to they're parent's fridges lasting for a long time, and so they follow tradition, owning a fridge?

Or is it just a mess trying to get a rental agreement quickly?
