Ultra-light fiberglass trailer recommendations? GoRVing

My wife and I have been using her parents' RV for a few years now (26 foot Chateau Sport Class-C with slide-out). We have a lot of fun when we borrow it for trips, but a few weeks ago her parents sold it. So now we're looking into getting something for ourselves.

After much discussion, we've decided we'd like to downsize to a small trailer we can tow behind my car. First, because a trailer will have far fewer maintenance headaches than a class-c. And second, because we like the idea of being able to un-hitch when we arrive, and be able to drive into town.

Monetary and parking restrictions mean I can't purchase a pickup or SUV to pull the trailer with. And so that severely limits our options to really just the ultra-light fiberglass category and/or pop-up trailers. But pop-ups are out, because my wife has a firm requirement that the camper have solid sides and not have to be "set up" in order to get inside.

That leaves us with the following requirements:

  • dry weight under 1500 lbs. (though we could probably make 1700 work if we're careful)
  • permanent bed + dinette (we don't want to have to disassemble the bed to make a dinette, and vice-versa)
  • refrigerator
  • AC
  • toilet (shower not necessary)
  • electric brakes

From what I've seen so far, the Scamp 16' Deluxe (specifically Layout A) seems to be our best bet. The Escape 15' seems to be a good match too, but might be a little cramped compared to the Scamp.

There really aren't many options in this weight class, so I'm reaching out for other suggestions. Are there brands and/or specific models we should be looking into, that meet our requirements? Any pros/cons to the Scamp and Escape models? Anybody have a Scamp 16 Deluxe Layout A they're selling? ;-)

Thanks for any help!
