Ask about kegerators and you get, crazy and beautiful, it seems like everyone wants to keg... (I'm not a fan of bottling, but it's kind of a social event... is it just me or is the Ferrari Automatic Bottle Filler super messy? are we doing it wrong? standard bottling wand seems to be easier/quicker/cleaner... though it IS less consistent...)

So initially, my budget was $600-700. But after a bit a reasearch, this post convinced me the danby wasn't for me. However, if I'm going to spend $1,000 and only need to spend $60 to have a chilled tower... can I get away with not buying a "commercial" unit? I don't think I can justify the cost of the Beverage Air (BM23) or True (TDD-1) if the only difference is they have the built in tower cooler... or am I missing something? The unit I selected is a compressor cooled, so I'm confident it's better than similar $4-500 cold plate kegerators...

Craigslist around here is bare because homebrewing is pretty popular... And I live in an apartment so I really don't want a whole fridge setup...

I have on my list 2 5 gal kegs. The idea is to be able to have one active and one "carbonating". I have an extra CO2 tank because I'm pretty sure you need one to carbonate the keg and one to power the kegerator. Otherwise you'd need to finish the keg before you could keg the next batch? e.g. if I have a keg in the kegerator, I can't disconnect the CO2 to fill the new keg with gas then reconnect the gas back to the "Active" keg. Also, having an extra CO2 tank allows me to fill one before the next one runs out.

My Medium term goal is Nitrogen taps... my understanding is I'd need more tanks (because I need both CO2 N tanks) and, another different kind of regulator(for nitrogen), and different taps. The tower I've selected should allow me to change out to nitro taps, right? Actually, really, the biggest reason for me homebrewing is I LOVE nitro beers. I want to try EVERYTHING on nitro. I'm in search of the perfect Nitro IPA, or NiPA! (pronounced like "The Knights who say Ni!") (copyrighted

So reel talk: am I overpaying? Am I crazy? Or good purchase? Price tag is about 2x what I had originally imagined... but I'd rather "buy once, cry once" than buy something cheaper and be unhappy ending up buying this in a year anyway... and I want to do it right. I totally have delusions of competing in homebrew contests... but I'm SO not trying to get ahead of myself... most of my new hobbies I'm into for like... two weeks... we've already been at this for coming up on 3mos... besides, if I decide I hate homebrewing, I can always buy a keg of beer...
