Granted, my husband has never really been one to be serious about much of anything. Here we are ten days from actually potentially having a baby human in our lives though, and NOW he decides to be serious. We finally went and got an infant car seat, picked up some necessities, he shockingly insisted that we needed a rattle and then picked one out, and he spent a good long while fiddling with the car seat to make sure it was safe and secure. Even checked, double checked, and triple checked.
I'm more amused than angry, though it is slightly annoying that up until now trying to get him to gear up for lo has been like pulling teeth from a cranky crocodile.
Two months ago I tried to get him to get some baby things with me, and he was all complaints about costs and "do we even need any of this crap" but yesterday he brought home a couple of the things I said we needed and shocked me into excitement.
He's probably the most stubborn and unruly man I know, but we have slowly been bonding with each other over this whole pregnancy thing, so that's kind of a win in my book. Baby steps? Still compares me to houses and refrigerators and manatees and the like, but he also is already talking about having another baby in the future so obviously it doesn't bother him much.
He's been sweet about my weird mood swings lately though, and patient when I bowl over in pain from baby kicking me in the cervix (LO is breach, facing up and refuses to stay turned when he has been turned-hence the need for a cesarean). He's also been pretty understanding about my depression over a complete birth plan reversal; I wanted to deliver vaginally at a midwifery, things changed by degrees until discovering that LO was transverse and then breach. I don't handle well with the concept of surgery, being out of control of my own life scares the crap out of me. Having to get over that is a massive step for me emotionally. I digress.
tldr: humble brag, husband is growing as a person and now that baby is about to be here has gotten serious and is finally even nesting with me.
