Hello Reddit, first time posting in legal advice. Just want to clear up some things that I have going on in my life currently.
I am currently residing in Indiana. I have a roommate who pays around $380 a month, no lease, just a verbal agreement between Him and I to pay monthly, no problem. He recently has decided to move out at the end of May, but today he has brought up that I must pay him for the Washer, Dryer, and the refrigerator. All which costs in the $ x,000 which would render me bankrupt and would lose my house in the process. He stated today, that I must pay him back for what he spent on the appliances and will have a contract drawn up and I must sign the paperwork. I don't want to ultimately lose these appliances because they are basic utilities that i need for my everyday life.
Also I forgot to mention, that I own the house, I pay all the bills (except the portion he pays), and all utilities are in my name.
Do I have to sign the contract? If I don't sign the contract, can he remove the appliances out of the house after he has moved out or are they technically mine because they are in my house?
Thank you Reddit for your help.
TL;DR - House mate is moving out and has paid for appliances (washer, dryer, fridge) is demanding monthly payment for them by contract (have not signed or seen contract). Do I have to pay or are the appliances mine because they are in my household?
