This happened a few years ago. I was attending a church and the person doing the Sunday children's program asked me to be in charge of security during the program. I didn't think anything of it because the church was in a rough area of town and I had some law enforcement training. I found out why she wanted security within a couple weeks.
The room was at the front of the building and was a pretty good size. The door to the kitchen was located in the corner of the room and on the other side of the kitchen was a door to the church wood room. The kitchen was small sort of like a tiny hallway that just had enough room for a refrigerator, oven, and sink with a little counter. The wood room had 2 entrances, the one in the kitchen and the one that was from outside and never locked. If you entered the wood room from the kitchen, you would have to jump down a couple of feet to a dirt floor. A wall was located to the left: directly in front of you would be a small dirt-like hill, that just went higher until it touched the ceiling on the far back wall, which was covered in random garbage like old desks, wooden boards, and old tables; and to the right was a little pathway that led to the furnace. You would walk that way, then turn right to get into the area with the furnace, and the only light switch was located right here in the middle of the two rooms that made up the wood room.
The very first day there, I got a weird feeling about the wood room, so I made sure to lock the door from the kitchen. Part way through the program, while the kids were singing, I went into the kitchen and could hear someone inside the wood room humming. This seemed weird, as it was the middle of the summer and there was no reason to be in there. I left the door locked and nothing further happened that week. The next week everything started out the exact same way until someone told me to go to the kitchen. I figured they heard the humming again, so I went into the kitchen and heard the humming, but also another sound. Someone was wiggling the doorknob. I didn't open the door because I didn't know who was in there, and to keep the kids safe. After they all left, I opened the door to see if I could see anything and the room had no windows so it was hard to see. However, I could see footprints just inside the room from the light shining in from the kitchen.
The next week I came prepared with a big flashlight that was pretty bright. The same exact thing happened and I waited until everyone was gone to look around again. There were footprints throughout the rooms and I had the weird feeling that someone was watching me, which would have placed them on the hill part among all the junk, but I couldn't find anyone with just a quick look. This continued for a few weeks, but all I ever found was footprints and a cigarette. Then one day I went in and walked into the kitchen to lock the door just like I always do, just this time, the door was shut, but open just enough so the door wasn't latched and couldn't be locked. I pulled the door in, to latch it, then locked it.
While the kids were singing, I walked in and heard the guy humming again. Suddenly the door knob started to be wiggled slowly, then more violently by the second, until he started pounding on the door. It sounded like he was trying to punch the door in. I get my friend, another guy who is helping with security to come into the kitchen with me. He hears the banging and immediately gets worried, so he goes to a drawer to grab a knife in case something happens and he absolutely needs one. He opens up the drawer, looks in and then panics. All of the knives are missing and only the knives. I send him back out with the kids, as there are other ways in, and I stay in the kitchen to make sure whoever it is doesn't get in. The pastor had no clue why the knives were missing, no one asked to borrow them and no events happened at the church around that time, but he figured someone just borrowed them without asking as that has happened before. After the children left, I got help and we went into the wood room through the 2 doors so there was no way out in case someone was still in there, but we never found anyone and the knives eventually made it back. The pastor figured it was just a random person from the church and since no one was found, didn't really take it seriously. I did find out though that a few years prior to this, the former person in charge of children's programs found a homeless guy with mental problems living in the wood room. They never called the police, but someone from the church brought him to a hospital for those with mental illness, and he was admitted. I hope I never meet the guy on the other side of the door, possibly with knives that wanted into the room with the children.
