Hey guys! So I'm not an expert on making bubble hash (this is my first guide ever) but this is a method that has proven to be very good and that produces clean and nice hash without needing bubble bags or anything off the Internet. Everything here is either in your own house or is easily accquired.
What you need:
- as many trimmings as you can buy (I bought 4.13 oz of some good looking stuff for $60 in SoCal, you shouldn't be spending too much on them, a lot of people throw them away)
- a freezer/refrigerator
- two 5 gallon Home Depot Buckets
- Something to mix with (I used a sturdy stick, make sure it can touch all the way to the bottom of the bucket without your hands going in
- 20 pounds of ice
- a hose for water (if you dont have access to a hose, around 6 gallons works fine) HAS TO BE COLD
- large mason jars, I used 4 but it depends on how much product you're making
- pantyhose (not tights)
- a mesh strainer
- hose/tube & turkey baster (for draining)
- funnel
- knife/something to scrape with
- cardboard
First, put the trimmings in the freezer overnight. This is to make the trichomes brittle so they will break off easily. When they're cold and ready, fill up one of the Home Depot buckets halfway with ice. Pour the trimmings in on top of the ice, then pour cold water on top till it submerges the trimmings, then add more ice all the way to the top. Stir the bucket for about 10-15 minutes (I feel like the longer the better, also depends on how much trim you have to work with). Take the strainer, put it/hold it (might need a second person) on top of the second bucket, then strain the stirred mixture into the second bucket, making sure you're holding back any ice or plant matter from falling into the new bucket. Keep doing this till you've drained almost all of the water. If some residue is stuck on the bottom of the old bucket/on pieces of ice, go ahead and pour some more water into the mixture bucket, making sure to get all the trichomes off as you can. Strain again. Dump all the ice and place the plant matter in the strainer and use the end of the turkey baster (or anything you want really) and press the old trimmings until all the liquid has drained. Right now, we should have the new bucket which should be filled with trichomes, water, and small plant matter. Using the funnel, pour the new bucket into the mason jars, making sure you get all the trichomes and liquid out of the bucket. Take a single pantyhose (use a single pantyhose! I'll explain why later) and stretch it all the way over the mouth of the mason jar. Make sure it's tightly on so nothing leaves. Rinse out one of the Home Depot buckets and using the mason jar/pantyhose setup, strain each one of the mason jars into the clean Home Depot bucket, making sure all the liquid leaves and that all of the tiny plant matter stays in the panty hose. Do this for every mason jar, and when you're done, ball up the pantyhose in your hand, dunk it in water, and squeeze it into the Home Depot bucket, making sure the plant matter stays in. We're doing this to make sure we're getting out as much liquid and trichome as we can. In the Home Depot bucket, we should have water, and very, very clean soon-to-be hash. LET THIS MIXTURE SETTLE FOR A MINIMUM OF 1 HOUR (4 is optimal, the longer the better). Take the draining hose/tube. Place one end in the bucket, making sure it doesn't touch anywhere near the hash at the bottom (or else you'd be draining/wasting the hash we've worked so hard to get) and place the other end in the second bucket. Create a suction and let the liquid from one bucket flow to the other. Let this occur until we have all the hash at the bottom of the bucket, an inch or so of water on top of it, and the rest of the water in the other bucket. Proceed to carefully extract the rest of the water in the hash bucket by using the turkey baster (the reason we just didn't use the hose the entire time is because sometimes we can accidently suck up the hash and screw up the entire process). Now, we should have a nice layer of hash on the bottom of the bucket with no water or anything extra. Use the knife or scraper thing and scrape all the hash you can out of the bucket and onto a piece of cardboard. Here it will rest and dry for as long as it needs. Be sure to change the cardboard as needed, and always keep the hash as dry as you can so we don't get moldy hash. Once it's completely dry, roll it up in a ball and smoke it, or cook it in some butter/oil and make edibles! Let me know what you thought and if you have any more tips/tricks, leave them in the comments below. Happy smoking/eating guys!
