First time posting in the sub, and just wanting a sanity check on an appliance repair.
I have a whirlpool gold side by side refrigerator (M# GS6NVEXSS02) where the ice maker went on the fritz. It is the kind with the bucket in the door, but the ice maker is at the top shelf. Basically, the tines/fingers/harvester in the down position or slightly at the 4 oclock position and frozen. Water had overflowed a bit, but not too much. At any rate, I removed the ice maker and defrosted it. Double check the connections and reinstalled the module. It ran once, harvesting the cubes, but now is doing nothing, ie not harvesting the cubes. The finger/tines/haverster is at the 2oclock position, which i have read is the home position.
Now when i removed the ice module, the optics appeared to be fine. But after reinstalling the ice maker, the optics are flashing the 2 blink, pause, then 2 blink and so on. I push the door flap on the left side, clearing the optic beam and it still does the blinking. Yet if i fiddle with it, the optic light goes solid, meaning the beam isn't blocked.
SO my question is it the ice maker itself that is bad, the optics, or both?
