OK, so I have been given a compact refrigerator (Model FRT05LGDW0) by a family friend, saying that it wasn't working, knowing I'm a big DIYer. Well, the issue is pretty obvious, after opening the back panel the air dryer has been broken at one end. The compressor runs and is pushing air out of the line leading up to the air dryer. I only ran the compressor for a very short time, 10 seconds, to find this out.
Now, I'm not an appliance expert, but I don't think air is what is supposed to be coming out of this line. Should be R134. Correct? I understand that it was a, previously, sealed system so there is no way to "add" freon. But, I'm thinking if I slightly flare the pipes, fit them back together and either JB weld or braze it, it should hold pressure. At this point I can either have a professional add the freon or through a brazed valve on the low pressure side and add the R134A myself. No?
Does this sound like a solid plan, or should I just scrap the fridge? I can add pictures if needed.
