Looking to add kitchen "island," any advice? InteriorDesign

Hey everyone,

I’ll be moving into a new apartment soon and am looking to add a stationary kitchen island (ideally long enough to put 2-3 high stools and serve as a small eating/snack/extra cooking area as well). The below link has the model of the kitchen (modern, and I don’t need the island itself to match perfectly, but would like it to be modern as well). The only difference between the picture and my kitchen is that my unit is a little bigger, and the kitchen will be L shaped with some extra cabinets and a refrigerator also along the left wall, thus allowing me to place the island parallel to the back wall (does this have a different terminology than island? It would be like a “peninsula” technically)

I know this is not ideal and at some point I should just look to hire a contractor, but it gets quite expensive in NYC and I want to look at this option first. Does anyone have any places I should check out or specific models? Thanks!
