Hi everyone, this is my first post here on Reddit. I've been a lurker for maybe six months now and I thought I'd share some odd things that have happened to me throughout my life.
I've had odd experiences happen to me for as long as I can remember. The first "paranormal" thing I remember happening to me was probably when I was about maybe 8 years old. The house I grew up in belonged to my family for maybe fifty to sixty years or more until we sold it in 2007 (my family moved out of state for a few years). My room upstairs was kind of an L shape. The house itself was laid out in a stupid way because it was in the style of a cape, except when you got to the top of the stairs, there wasn't a bedroom on either side. Instead, both bedrooms were to the right. To get to one you had to go through the other. It made no sense. When my grandparents owned it, they took down the wall that separated the two and used the space as an entire master bedroom, but when my family moved in, we put the wall back up because there were too many of us to have one huge bedroom like that. The room looked like this: http://ift.tt/1CmktjG
I had an entertainment system set up in my room with a television so I could lay on my side in bed and watch TV before falling asleep (I shared the room with my older sister for part of the year which is why there was a TV in an 8 year old's room). One night, I was half asleep when I opened my eyes in pitch blackness to see that on the television was what looked like the reflection of a human figure. The figure appeared to be a milky white color, rather tall and thin. This does not match the description of anyone in my family at the time because we are all short (even my father was probably only 5'8" - he was also very heavy). I know it wasn't sleep paralysis because I was able to move and I've experienced sleep paralysis before so I know what it's like. It remained there for a few minutes, not moving, and I don't remember much after that.
I know because it was on the reflection of the TV that maybe the TV had something to do with it. I lived in this house from the age of two or three until I was 13 and a half. I never saw a figure again, although I did have one or two other things happen in the house that I'll talk about later. I honestly hope it was the TV because it was terrifying, especially as a child. But I've never seen images appear on a turned off TV screen like that. I would also like to blame it on having a vivid imagination, but I don't know if I'm just looking for a scapegoat or if I'm being realistic, if that makes sense.
The second experience I had was in the same room. It's a long story, but I was diagnosed with severe medical problems when I was 9 and had to have brain surgery twice. One reason why I hadn't been diagnosed sooner was because of some negligence of a pediatrician and a radiologist who didn't inform us of something he had seen on an x-ray three or four years prior. This was traumatizing as a kid and around that time I wanted to become a doctor so I could make sure other people didn't have to go through the same thing. I grew up in a religious house (Catholic), so I was sort of praying and crying one night, asking God why I'd have to go through this when I didn't ever hurt anyone. At this point, my entertainment system was in the same spot, but my bed was horizontally against the wall. My room was pitch black once again and all of a sudden three lights appeared on the blank wall in front of me. They were a yellow color and kind of danced around before forming a triangle. Honestly it scared the shit out of me so I turned on all of my lights as fast as possible and it went away. There were two windows in the room near the stairs, but they were not positioned so that something like that could have happened. The shades were pulled down. Once again, I lived in that house until I was 13 and a half and that NEVER happened again before or after that night. To this day I have no idea what it was. I should probably also add that the medical problems I have do NOT cause me to have hallucinations or anything of that sort. I was not on any medication at the time as well.
The third experience I had in that house occurred in front of another person, so I know I'm not the only one who saw it. It was the day before my second operation and my parents and I were leaving to go to Boston that night so we could stay in the hotel across the street from Boston Children's. I had just had the Anointing of the Sick at our parish at the time. My parents and I came back home and my mom began packing. My father was sitting in the corner of the kitchen smoking a cigarette and my memere (basically means 'grandma' in French) and I were sitting across from him. At one point, he took a drag of his cigarette and exhaled the smoke. This is where things don't make sense. The smoke came out of his mouth normally and then, while floating up near his head, formed a circular ring that - I know this sounds SO, SO stupid, but it's the only way I can describe it - looked like a halo or something. My dad had no idea what was going on because he couldn't see it. My memere, who was in her early 70s and VERY coherent at the time, and I saw it. It stayed in the form of a ring and floated there for maybe two to two and a half seconds before it completely disappeared. My memere and I looked at each other in absolute shock. We both asked each other, "Did you just see that?" and we both agreed. It was so shocking I don't think we ever really told anyone because we assumed no one would believe us.
The final experience occurred almost a year ago. I lost my father to suicide in December of 2013 and it was an absolutely horrific experience for me. I was a sophomore in college at the time and I love school so I decided to come back that January. It was insanely difficult to come back to school while grieving, but I thought it would be better to work out my problems while in school rather than sit at home and do nothing the entire spring and summer. So one early morning, maybe 6:30 AM around March I awoke to my table fan falling off my refrigerator. I'll give you some more details: Because of my job (I work in Residential Life), I have my own room. The door was locked and I was alone. My refrigerator looks a little like this: http://ift.tt/1CmkrZa and my table fan (which looks like this: http://ift.tt/1CbHGaA ) was on top of it, directly in the center. The way it fell is as though it was pushed off. I awoke to the sound of it hitting the floor.
I've been trying to debunk this since it happened. I live in MA and we don't really get earthquakes, but I researched it anyways at the time and we had not had one. Nothing else in my room fell over and no one else ever mentioned anything. This hasn't happened again since then. I just don't understand how a fan could physically fall off the refrigerator when there was nothing moving it and it wasn't even on the edge. Does anyone have any ideas? If it was paranormal, I don't think it was a poltergeist or anything because I didn't experience anything else that was poltergeist-y besides the trauma of losing my dad recently. I did have another odd experience in the room, but I live in the same building again this year and besides those two events have never heard of anyone else experiencing anything.
If anyone is interested, I'll tell you all about the second odd experience in my dorm room. I just know that this post is already insanely long and I don't want people to skip it because it's so long. I genuinely want peoples' opinions of these experiences. If anyone needs more details about anything, please let me know. I know some of these stories seem pretty unbelievable. I still don't even really believe they occurred myself and they actually happened to me, so imagine how I feel. haha
