Building a lactation room BabyBumps

Hi all,

I'm 27 weeks pregnant with baby #1 and was asked to help come up with a list of items for the lactation room that my office is putting together. One of my coworkers is currently on maternity leave, so I would like to have it set up for her before her return, and before I go out. I am xposting this in /r/breastfeeding as well.

So, what the heck do we need in a lactation room? I have this list so far:

Must have:

  • Door that locks

  • Electrical outlet for plugging in a breast pump

  • Comfortable chair (or more than one if there’s more than one mom)

  • Countertop or table for breast pump and supplies

  • "Occupied" sign for the door

  • Wastebasket, cleaner for surfaces, hand sanitizer, wipes, routine daily maintenance

  • Nearby sink for washing hands, pump, and tubing (kitchen should be fine as it's not too far away)

  • Nearby refrigerator to store cold packs (I'm talking them into a mini-fridge)

Would be nice:

  • Reservation system (electronic calendar, sign-in sheet, or dry-erase board)

  • Clock and small mirror to help check and readjust clothing before returning to work

  • Privacy screen or partition if there will be more than one mom using it at a time

Would be amazing:

  • Multi-user hospital-grade breast pump (mothers provide their own collection kits)

  • Books, art, or something to look at while pumping

Any and all suggestions are very much welcome. Thanks!!
