i found this dog today http://ift.tt/1xf1nMr it was cold and raining and he had a rope tied around his neck. he was hungry and smelled awful. so we brought him in fed him treats and gave him a deep clean. i am thinking about keeping him but i would like a little help on identifying his breed.
some distinguishing features -- his head is similar to a pit bull, wide, and has that pit bull smile. his tail is long and starts to get shaggy half way down and to the end. he also has a sort of lighter shade of slightly longer curly hair along the ridge of his back. also, his neck skin is loose and large, part of me just thinks its because he's still a puppy and a bit malnourished, but this may be distinctive towards his breed.. i don't know, but any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks :)
Edit: After vet
Took him to the vet and sure enough, no chip. The vet and staff all seem to think it is a 9 month pit border collie mix as well! I got him all of his shots and vaccinations today and scheduled him to get neutered in 1 week. One bit of bad news is that he had hook worms. but i will keep the two dogs separated for the next 3 days and give him his medicine and they both should be fine. Note, our existing pup is up to date of all of his vac's and heart worm medicine. And visits the same vet on a monthly basis. And for all the people suggesting, implying, or even thinking that i'm "stealing" the dog... His feet are stained from being outside for a considerable amount of time. the rope tied around his neck was knotted and permanent. The odor and sheer filth was unbearable. Even after 2 baths and deep cleans we still comb out dirt and fleas from his skin. Im not saying he was malnourished but he definitely lacked basic attention and care. He's only 9 months! He shows multiple signs of neglect and obviously does not know how to act indoors. he's scared of anything and everything not in the immediate backyard (car, furniture, doors, trashcan, refrigerator). actually he was terrified of the car ride.
The owners are more than welcome to come looking for the dog, post flyers, ect. And i will gladly and willingly consider returning but the fact is. NO tags NO excuse. not to mention the rope and filth..
Plus, it was unanimous at the vet, "Don't go looking for the owners" "obvious neglect" "he's in a far better situation now"
the funny thing is, just 3 days ago my roommate and i were talking about fostering another dog to play with our puppy while at we work long shifts. divine intervention? funny how things happen. thanks for everyones opinions :) we look forward towards or possible future together.
