Cat Lady LetsNotMeet

This one is short. It's about my old neighbor.

During grad school, I lived in an apartment complex that allowed only cats. I have no idea what the limit was because I had no intention of getting a pet.

After about 6 months, a new neighbor moved in. She was early 50's, average in every way possible. She worked as a receptionist at some office downtown. I know she had a son that was in college. She mentioned more than once to me that he was single. She went for drinks with her friends on Friday nights. She went salsa dancing on Thursday. Blah blah blah normal.

She also had cats. Lots of cats. I would guess 10, but I was never in her place long enough to count. I picked up a package she signed for me once. I think I was her the doorway for 5 minutes max, but from there I could tell the number was high. The place stank of cat pee. The carpet was more cat fur than carpet.

I didn't really care, since they didn't affect me in any way. However, one day I ran into her in the hallway and she was sobbing. She had just left a meeting with management and they told her she had to get rid of the majority of her cats. They said they only allowed so many and she was well above that number.

I felt bad. I gave her the name of a local no-kill shelter that I used to volunteer at and wished her good luck.

Yeah. That isn't what she did. She put three dead cats at the door to the complex's management and smeared the door, door handle, and windows with blood.

The cops went to question her and found the rest of her cats dead in the refrigerator. I have no idea what her plan was but rumor was she planned to cook them into food for the neighborhood holiday party. I'm not sure I believe it, but then again I have no idea why she would put dead cats in the refrigerator.

So to the lady that decided killing her beloved cats, smearing their blood on management's door, and putting them in the refrigerator was a better idea than the local no-kill shelter, let's not meet again.
