Saving milk questions... breastfeeding

Looking for some advice! I want to start saving up milk, but so far I've thrown out everything I pump. Generally if LO feeds when I'm engorged, I can use the manual pump afterward and get 1-1.5 oz. But I feel like it's silly or wasteful to pour that small amount into a storage bag! What I did the last couple times was cap the bottle and put it in the refrigerator, wash the pump parts with hot water and soap and put in dish drainer for the next time. I'm not pumping frequently, but breast milk should be good in the fridge for several days, right? Still, when I take the bottle back out to try to add to it, the milk is separated and almost looks curdled...with little chunks in it - in as little as 4 hours. I don't trust it! Earlier on when I was pumping less, I thought I could add to a bottle over a couple days before transferring it to a freezer bag, but I ended up taste-testing it and it tasted like vomit!

Obviously either I'm doing something wrong, or I have totally unrealistic expectations.

  • Is it okay to pump into the same bottle for multiple pumping sessions, if the bottle is being refrigerated in between?

  • Does the separation and chunky formation in the milk mean it's gone bad? How can it go bad in such a short time?

  • Does breast milk taste bad cold, maybe, even when it's perfectly fine?

  • Should I just go ahead and put 1oz in a freezer bag so I stop wasting milk?? It feels so silly to use a whole bag for such a small amount. Do you guys ever store such small amounts?
