Worried about the electricity in my new rental...Advice? electricians

Hello Electricians of Reddit,

I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge about all things electric.

I just moved into a 1960s house I am renting with my family. The landlord had told us that the house needed electrical work and that it had all been done prior to our move-in. As far as I can tell all of the outlets have been changed and the old fuse box has been exchanged for a circuit breaker.

In the two days that we have lived here I have noticed a few disconcerting things... The first thing I noticed was that when the refrigerator fan starts to run faster, all the lights dim throughout the majority of the house. My nearly brand new microwave does not work in this house--it turns on but takes about four times the length of time it should to heat something. Similarly, the oven does not heat to the temperature it is programmed for, even while the display shows that it is. When I tried to run the dryer, all the lights went out in the basement for a full minute and all the lights in the house continually flickered until it is turned off. None of the circuits have tripped at any point.

I'm nervous about this situation because I don't know if it is unsafe for my family in any way. I have mentioned the issues to my new landlord, but he insists the electricity is fine and that the appliances are broken...seems a little too coincidental to me.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to what could be going on?
