When you've opened a tin or a packet of food, quickly write the day/month on the container or packet so you'll know how long it has been opened. Also when you freeze something in a reusable container, have a piece of sellotape or masking tape nearby, and write the date that you froze the food on the tape and stick it to the container before freezing.
This is good for knowing how long your food has got left before it's no longer good to eat.
