Why does chicken go bad while it thawing? cookingforbeginners

Has happened a few times to me; i buy a thing of 12 chicken breasts, with the expiration day about 5 days out. Right when i get home, i freeze them all individually except one to cook then. I then thaw 1 chicken breast the night before in the refrigerator to eat the next day, every day. But at least half the time the chicken goes bad. It get slimy, and it parts of it look fairly gray. I would expect it to stay good for a day or two after thawing...
