The phrase "WTF?" comes to mind here.
First of all, they only read every 3 months because can't be effed.
The problem with Powershop is that you have NO grace period for paying a bill with a discount. I only found out because I happened to check the app and saw that yesterday an actual meter reading was recorded and the cost of my power since the last meter reading 3 months ago, minus the previous 2 months of bills, was $508. Oh, and if I want a discount, I have to buy power at their discounted rates until Monday Sept 18. After that, it's charged at full rates.
The second thing is here is my power usage, which somehow has managed to add up to approximately $750 for 3 months of power for a 50sqm studio with someone in it at most 12 hours a day:

Hot water heater I have no control over, on 24x7

3 LED lamps (two very low wattage, one higher wattage), on nearly 24x7

refrigerator, on 24x7

bathroom fan, on 24x7 (or my bathroom gets mouldy and smelly)

reverse-cycle heater, on 6-12 hours a day if I get home and it's cold

laptop, on about 12 hours a day (when I'm home)
-
phone and camera battery chargers (used as required)
-
hobs (1 or 2 hobs used up to twice a week)
-
slow cooker used 2-3x a month
-
chipbot used 2x a month
-
washing machine used 2x a week (cold, quick cycle only)

40" TV used about 5 hours a month

How in the hell?
Any thoughts? Is my meter defective? Since I live in a unit block, could wires have gotten crossed, and could someone else's power consumption be being added into mine?
I've thrown myself on the mercy of Powershop, saying, you can't be serious that I have only one business day to come up with hundreds of dollars to buy discounted power from you, or face no discount at all?
[ Edit #2: I am suddenly regretting that I went to the grocer's and spent $70 on food for the next 10 days or so, tonight. ]
Sigh.
