my days are numbered opiates

came off a 5 year bid and got in tune with some dude while I was in the feds, put me on to some serious money. This past year I have been pretty much rolling in money blowing it on dope and bullshit, I've been buying credit cards off the darkweb and running them up to buy all kinds of shit like Xboxs and TVs my homie even got a refrigerator. We would get unspsecting people to "open up" where we would make them open a bank account and tell them we will put checks in there and split the money little do they know they bounce off later and they would be stuck to to pay it off later. Shit man I'm making TOO much money right now, I'm popping xans snorting oxys back to back it's a matter of time before I accidnelty kill myself. My tolerance has fucking skyrocketed,, I thought it would get better as I got more money, but it only got worse sigh I'm deep in the rabbit hole as can be happy Friday though guys

[Entries 9 - 15] LACED, by rubbery -- A small band of survivors attempt to fight their way out of rehab after an infectious batch of heroin creates a ravenous horde of junkie zombies opiates

See entries 1-8 here: http://ift.tt/2C1piZR

Entry 9 - Sunday, 6:00 AM

My roommate, Ben, who has been detoxing off meth, finally woke up after sleeping since Wednesday. I hadn’t even said a word to him after nearly a week of being his roommate until this morning when finally realized he had a roommate. For a minute I honestly considered he may have died in his sleep, but even in that case I would be happy to have have my own room so I let him be.

He seems cool though, dude is huge and used to play football in college. Built like a refrigerator and about as tall as a telephone pole. He’s got droopy blue eyes and some shaggy black hair. Got hooked on pain pills from an injury and it took off from there. I don't know how or why he switched over to meth but everyone’s got their story. He let me use one of his blankets because I’ve been freezing my dick off over here, so that was nice of him. Ben seems to be a great roommate so far.

Entry 10 - Monday, 11:55 AM

Dickhead Doug, my case manager, wants me to write a “Dear John” letter. Which apparently is a letter I write saying “goodbye” to my addiction. Writing a letter to a semi-abstract medical condition sounds fucking retarded, so I’m going to write a breakup letter to my drug dealer instead. Here it goes:

Burke,

What up man. This is Chip. I’m actually only a few blocks away from your place right now but I’m stuck over here at Pinecrest.

You were the best dealer ever. You always had shit, and it was always fire. And even though you didn't use, you always let me fix in your bathroom. Afterwards you would even let me chill on your couch for a bit. I really liked being high as hell and watching you feed your fish and telling me all about your gun collection, that was cool as fuck. Also, your cat was dope. Skittles is chill as shit and I liked when she’d sit on my lap and start purring. I really appreciated all that.

I loved what we had going. But still, what I didn't love was the hold your product had on me. I didn't love giving every penny I earned to you. I didn't love how I only felt good when I was coming to or from your house. I didn’t love being a willing prisoner. And for these reasons I need to say goodbye. I hope I never see you again. Say goodbye to Skittles for me.

Entry 11 - Monday, 7:32 PM

I have been here for almost one week now. Place isn’t too bad as far as money grubbing rehabs go. A member of staff took me on a walk around the grounds again. Upstairs they got a sweet common room with a big flat screen and a jenky ping-pong table, and outside there’s a rusted gym area--none of which I am allowed access to until I finish detox.

My days on the 1st floor consist of laying in my bed, eating, writing, and lounging on the sofa in the front atrium while watching VHS tapes on the colossal 32” tube TV. Been hanging out there a lot to try and get a feeling for how the staff operates--shift changes, meal times, personal tendencies, that sort of thing.

Sometimes late at night, if nobody else is around, the janitor will prop open the back door and smoke a cigarette outside. I timed him last night and he was out there for two and a half minutes. Going that route has some potential in its simplicity.

Entry 12 - Tuesday, 10:08 AM

Moved out of the detox ward today, over to general population (they get mad when I call it that). This was nice actually because I wasn't supposed to get moved out until sometime later in the week. But they told me I could finish my suboxone taper on the upper floor and hurried me out.

I don’t know if it’s just my rising anticipation to make my escape or not, but it feels like there is some added tension between staff and clients recently. Seems like they are suspicious, or nervous even. I do realize this is probably just all in my head though.

I have two more days of subs then im off it completely. I’m still on Ativan and clonidine which is nice.

Entry 13 - Tuesday, 3:24 PM

My new room is pretty comfortable, surprisingly. I don't have a roomate yet so I pushed the two twin beds together now I’m sleeping like a king.

I have been scheming of ways to get to the teddy bear key ring. I need to figure something out in the next couple days while I still have access to the medication window. And now that I have access to other parts of the compound, I have also been collecting tools and other things I might need for my escape. So far, I have come up with a hammer, a phillips screwdriver, a keychain flashlight, and about 10 ft. of cable rope that I took from broken gym equipment. I was also able to talk my way into getting my small hiking backpack back from the front office to keep in my room.

Groups and classes got canceled today so I'm just chillin in the room thinking of getting high when I’m out.

Entry 14 - Wednesday, 5:40 AM

I woke up to a girl’s voice in the middle of the night. Got up and soon realized the voice was from the next room, coming in through the air vent. She was trying to get my attention. I was annoyed at first, but she just wanted someone to talk to. So I did. She turned out to be pretty chill.

Long story short, her main thing was oxy and this is her first rehab. Her name is Chloe. She finally decided to get clean after her longtime boyfriend OD’d in her arms last week. But now she is having second thoughts. She agreed that Doug is a huge dick and is a creep. He spent most of the session bragging and looking at her tits.

She said she likes to rollerblade, I thought that was rad in like an ironic kind of way. Anyway, We talked until the sun started to come up. She started snoring and, not going to lie, it was adorable to listen to. I’m glad she got some sleep.

Entry 15 - Wednesday, 8:55 AM

I was sitting at breakfast with Ben this morning trying to scope out who Chloe was when a kid I hardly know came up to us and started freaking out. He was convinced his roommate was trying to kill him. Ben got up and scared him off. It was just a weird situation. He was on the verge of tears and looked genuinely terrified.

Ben said the kid is in rehab for spice and bath salt abuse, so his paranoia actually makes sense now. He’s the guy always smoking the American Spirit cigs out on the patio. He’s like a skater punk type dude. Wears the same thing everyday. Green hoodie, black skinny jeans, and a pair on converse that look like he’s worn all his life. It’s not at all uncommon to meet people in rehab who have fried their brains with their drug use. Anyway, going to have to keep an eye out to avoid him for now, I don’t feel like dealing with other people’s drama.

going to post next entries tonight

I overdosed opiates

When I was little, they called me pig. Not a pig. Not the pig. But pig. And, so I was. Fat. Selfish. Nasty. Whether I became those things because of what they called me, or they called me pig because of the way I was, I don’t know, but I do know he is who I became. Over the years I would try to kill him, in different ways.

My dad came to get me out of a crack house at 6 on a Monday morning, because I had not been home since I left a week before to take the last exam of senior year. He knew I had his bike, and my girlfriend told them where I was. That week, she and I made out on the red brick steps of her mom’s front porch. I smoked a Marlboro light and told her I had some heroin. She pressed her lips together and opened her eyes big, as if to say, “Okay? What do you want me to say about that? That is scary.”

The rest of the time I spent at Alex’s while my girlfriend finished junior year. I couldn’t believe it the first time the sun rose on Alex and me that week. Only minutes passed since we started doing lines of cocaine and heroin, partying in his basement apartment the night before, but then the sun rose through the window. Powders in my nose and smoke in my lungs turned on biochemical faucets in my head. My body buzzed and skin tingled with euphoria. We looked at each other in surprise and laughed in the warm light coming through the window. The night was gone, and we would never get it back. Now the week was gone. Years later Alex died of an overdose. Then his life was gone, and he never got it back.

Before I woke up that Monday morning I recognized my father’s voice coming from the door. It was steady, like he collected himself and repressed his panic a moment before he knocked. He came to take me back home. The drugs I smoked and snorted the night before still swirled bliss in the black behind my eyelids. A hand touched my shoulder. The urgent whispers of a figure in the dark startled me awake. Where was I?

“Riley. Riley. Wake up. Your dad is here. You have to go.”

My father grabbed his bike and loaded it into the Landcruiser, so I told Alex,

“Turn on the light. I have to find my heroin. I had 5 foils last night.” The filament burned my retinas, and my brain shuddered before my hands shielded my eyes.

“Are you sure? I don’t remember that. Where is it?”

I searched my pockets and found a tin foil bindle of white powder cocaine, but I wanted my heroine.

“I don’t know. Let me check the couch. I know I had them smoking crack with Cole last night.” We pulled up the cushions and found nothing. Then my father stood at the door. The engine of his 1983 land cruiser ran in the dark outside.

“Come on, Riley, let’s go.”

“Go with your dad. Call me later.” Alex switched the light back off. From across the street, concrete crosses of graves made silhouettes against a dead pale sky. It was a familiar sight for me by then. My father never said anything in the car, at least nothing I can remember.

At the house, my sisters and mother dressed and got ready for school like any other Monday morning. I walked up to the third floor, and my skin crawled in desperation. Sobriety was unacceptable. I wanted to die or be sedated.

I laid the foil of cocaine under the lamp on my bedside dresser. It looked like a gram and a half of coke, but when I gummed it and rubbed it on my lips, it didn’t numb me up. The cocaine was no good, so I chopped all of it up and snorted it in one line. It burned badly, but as soon as it hit the back of my throat, I knew it was several times a lethal dose of heroin, the stuff we called China white.

I walked downstairs to my get some juice. My father cooked breakfast, and the smell of bacon fat filled the kitchen.

“Poppa, I want some orange juice. Can we go get some?” He poked the bacon popping in the frying pan. His left hand rested in his pocket, and I looked around in the refrigerator door open.

“Not right now. Go upstairs and go to sleep in the TV room.”

10 minutes later my little sister found me. Green vomit covered my clothes and most of the couch. The dying blood in my face turned my complexion gray, and my eyes rolled all the way back into my head. She ran to get my father who had returned from buying orange juice.

As a veterinarian he knew how the basics of keeping something alive, so he got on his knees and pumped my chest with his hands. A large glob of brown snot ejected from my nostrils, but vomit still blocked my airway. He sucked it into his mouth and spat it out to help me breathe. With bile on my lips, he put his mouth to mine and blew in breath. He could have breathed for me for days, but the amount of heroin in my system meant certain death.

On a Monday morning before school, my sisters waited on the front porch for the ambulance. My mother shook, doubled over in the doorway and watched her husband attempt to keep her only son alive. My father breathed for me and pushed on my chest. I lay on the ground dying like I wanted. My respiratory system would shut down, and soon my heart would quit pumping. 17 years into this life and I was already on my way out. How could I do that to my mother and father? How could I do that to my sisters? How could I do that to myself?

When I was a kid, my father used to ride bikes with me down the levee to throw rocks into the river at sunset, and during his workdays, he packed me around in the passenger seat of his Landcruiser while he made calls to clients. Everywhere we went everyone knew him and wanted his attention. They said, “Hey, Doc! Hey, Doc! Hey, Doc!” We went to different horse barns and properties throughout the countryside. One night we hooked a chain to his front bumper and tried to pull a dead calf out of its mother as it got dark outside and afterwards he let me have a sip of his beer in the back of the Landcruiser. I used to ask him every question I ever had, and he always knew the answer. He was the smartest man in the world.

At some stables, he pointed and said, “A horse kicked me in the knee, and I cried under that tree.” I didn’t believe him, because my dad never cried. At his clinic he was in charge of everything and everyone. One evening while visiting the bayou a man got shot in the head in a hunting accident. I watched my dad suck the bloody foam out of his throat, until help came. The guy eventually died, but not while my dad was working on him.

The first time it occurred to me that I really loved him and he loved me, I was 4 years old. He led me on a horse through a gate into a riding ring when I thought it. One time I had an awful cough, and he stayed up with me to give me medicine and make sure I was okay. My very first memory is on his hairy chest, waking from sleep, to choke back chunks of vomit in my throat. He took a break from putting together some crawler or toy for me to drink a beer and read on the chase lounge under a lamp. I was his only baby boy once upon a time, and he held me in his arms.

But now he knelt over me and pumped my chest with both of his hands and breathed for me, while he waited for the ambulance he hoped would come fast enough to save me.

The paramedics and firemen tried to get me to walk downstairs to the ambulance and go to the hospital, but I tried to bite them. In the ER, I spewed green vomit all over the floor and ripped the IVs out of my arm to get water out of a sink. It was Children’s Hospital, and young children were dying in the beds around me. It was an ordeal, but I survived.

Whether it was an attempted suicide by overdose or not, I did not know, but everyone seemed to think it was. I would have rather died than deal with the problems waiting for me on the other side of surviving. My mother’s father, Turkey, sat in a chair next to me, and I gave him a hard time about them not allowing me any water. I asked him if he wanted me to vomit in his mouth.

He laughed. I was his oldest grandchild, and he called me Turkey like I called him Turkey. He used to wake up before the sun to drink vodka in the 1970s, but in that hospital room, he had 28 years sober.

Justifying Heroin use opiates

I'm so sick of the mental games and selling shit for tar. "I will only sell x then I'll get clean". It is getting crazy, but I honestly don't think rehab will do shit. There is nothing a fucking psychologist can tell me to convince me to stay sober. I already know the reasons, but I can't stick to it. I just sold my refrigerator for 2 g's and a pack of cigs. so done

Passed my drugtest with substitution method opiates

Passed my drug test with someone else's pee and feelin hype af.

How I did it: night before got someone else's clean pee. Put it in refrigerator. That nighte I practiced hella test runs with an exact copy of the bottle I would be using. I would soak my mini hair gel bottle in very hott hot water. Took the thermometer and measures it at different times. Found out the bottle I used would lose about 7 degrees every 10 min with no heat warmers or anything just the bottle in my spandex. Soaked the bottle in a hot thermostat mug until I got there. Waited in my car until the temp got to 107.6. Walked in and luckily I was the only one there. Drank water for about 10 min then walked in and bam pouRed the bottle of pee in the cup. Temp was perfect. Got an amazing fuckin job. Hype as fuck

I am in DISBELIEF. Blessed by Junkie Jesus today. opiates

I made a stupid decision which resulted in me being $90 short for my methadone takehomes tomorrow. I was just going to go through the week long withdrawal until I could afford next week's takehomes.

So what happened? Well, I applied for a class action settlement for a refrigerator roughly 6 months ago, and TODAY of all days, the check came in. But I'm not done yet. How much was the total on the check? $91.56. How fucking unreal is that?? I am totally going to not go through any withdrawal now, and I'll even have $1.56 left over! Bless JJ

Sometimes I wonder if I'm being screwed and use and other times I know. opiates

My own damn fault for not having my own direct connects. I always go through a specific friend. This week has been a rough week for both of us to procure.

At this point, if I don't see dope by 5PM... my faith is lost. I already told him that I want my money back if it doesn't show by 9PM so that I can take the situation into my own hands. At that point the relief will come in the form of perc 10's but it will have to suffice.

Alternatively I was thinking about making PST.

Either way, when pay day rolls around I'm buying a fuck ton of poppy seeds, some kratom and some dope. Maybe subs too.

Truth be told, if I didn't find intermittent relief while waiting all week I'd probably already be done with the symptoms. I keep resetting the withdrawals the way things have been going.

I gave my friend $40 bux yesterday telling him that I don't want to be throwing my money into the wind. He promised me that if dope didn't show that night, that he'd pay me back that night. Then he claims that his friend dropped off 2 bags before work so he shared some with me. He said that his friend would be getting dope that evening after work and that he would possibly bring it to us. Then it changed to having to pick it up if he didn't get it too too late. Then finally expecting in AM after the guy's kid's baseball game at 8AM. So 10AM.. nada. Noon, nada. 1, 2, 3, ..... still sitting here watching depressing Anime. My friend claims that his guy said he'd be here in the afternoon. By my definition afternoon ends at 5PM so he has to show up before 5. If he doesn't, as I already stated, my faith will be lost. At that point waiting to get my money at 9PM will be a courtesy.

After that if my friend stalls to give me my money, or has a story then I'll know I was fucking screwed and used. I'm holding out hope because of the dope that appeared from the sky before work yesterday but then again that's why I suspect something. Maybe my friend bought half a bun, used the majority of it to get out of WD and stay well and gave me a minimal morsel. Of course I could just be paranoid.. we'll see.

Wish me luck.. I'll let everyone know later if I got screwed or if I successfully get what I've been waiting on.

Update:

Fuck, fuck, fuck! I posted four hours ago.. it's nearly 8PM now and I'm just gonna text my friend and give him a chance to level with me. Then I can move on from waiting.

Update 2:

I offered my friend an out and told him that I can empathize with how he's feeling. There was a time where it would have been impossible to understand what an addict goes through when they're in between doses.

So he admitted to nothing and insisted that we would have dope or my money by end of tonight. By 11PM he'll either be on his way to get or claiming that his ride is not answering. If the ride does not answer, then it's definitely a no-go. He did invite me over to share pizza that he heated up in the mean time...

Update 3:

He claims to have sent a "wtf" message to his friend and is sticking to the original narrative. The story goes that the friend who got the H for us is having a hard time sneaking away from his wife to deliver to us. Maybe it's true? We'll see if something pans out tonight. It is just beyond 10:30 PM.

Update 4 - Late Night Edition:

The refrigerator hums along accompanied by a light chug as the glossy black microwave oven's display indicates that it is 2:38 AM, the thermometer-clock on the table says 2:48 and the cordless phone "Fully charged". I mean, yeah of course the cordless phone says other stuff on it's display but I can't see the time to see if it's out of sync. The microwave is closer to accurate as my cell phone anyway. Not feeling great but I've felt shittier. Looking forward to taking on tomorrow after a decent night's sleep.

Before I sleep, I will kill some time at this keyboard. Sure, I could just do that in a locally stored document (of course it would probably get clouded somewhere, pun intended) but I'd never read it again it would only be relevant right here. Tomorrow, I'll eat a big health breakfast unlike today where I only ate bacon. Then a muffin for lunch. Then Pizza. Well, that was first dinner. I had leftovers 30 minutes ago. The point I'm getting at is tomorrow should better than today and frankly I was probably fit enough to exercise today anyway. Tomorrow I will have to, provided that something unanticipated does not make that impossible. I could do bike miles, but I have a funny feeling about a component that I should service first. Ab crunches and push-ups. The push-ups challenge me more than chin-ups and pull-ups but pull-ups are more taxing on back muscles. It would probably behoove me not to stir up anything until I'm certain symptoms are gone.

Maybe I won't wake up with soaked tee shirt. Boy, it's true what they say about clean linen. Well, I dunno. Saw a WikiHow article that insisted on that aspect of weathering WD symptoms. I find having at least one spare undershirt, or other tee-shirt by my bed side comes in handy. It's nice to be able to pull off a soaked shirt at 7 AM, put a dry one on, roll-over and go back sleep. I'm not wearing my pajama bottoms tonight. Those poor things get soaked in sweat anyway and then the tissues in my pockets end up smelling like sweat when I go to use them to blow nose dope-free nose. Certainly not by choice but not necessarily the worst thing that can be happening right now.

Expectations are set for the next two days. Hell, following the theme here I'm sure any reader can guess how this will go. Of course if the unexpected happens, I will be right here to share that with great excitement.

Auditory hallucinations on dope? opiates

I've been shooting dope for four years on and off. The last shot I took has caused some auditory hallucinations, such asthe hum of a refrigerator and some random voices like that of being in a crowd. I understand this happens to some people, but does anyone have any insight on why it would happen now? It's the same batch I've been shooting for the past week.

Crazy week (purging my psyche) opiates

Ever have one of those weeks? Last weekend I was at the end of my rope mentally, financially, the works. We've all been there. Then, out of the blue a redditor PMs me and offers to help me out. Completely caught me off guard. What an awesomely selfless act! An answered prayer (or not?).

The next day, my boss tells me that I'm getting a raise. This is great news but doesn't help in the immediate sense as payday is another week away but still, a raise makes you feel good and gives you something to look forward to :)

My phone went for a swim a couple weeks ago and a buddy gave me his phone when he got a new one this week which was awesome. It's a Note 4 so not a crappy phone at all.

My power company was hitting me up for last month's bill and I had 3 days, at that point, to get it paid ...or else. I call in any and all favors, hit up everyone that owes me money and manage to just get the entirety of the bill together if I count the assistance from the aforementioned awesome redditor.

The count so far:

  • Sunday: WD's, Desperation, panic.
  • Monday: WD's, but got a raise. No Desperation ;)
  • Tuesday: Awesome redditor offers to help, no WD's (managed to get well somewhat)
  • Wednesday: WD's but hopeful.
  • Thursday: Ohhh Thursday....

    • My car broke down but I managed to fix it myself via youtube and google
    • Lost a carton of cigarettes (which I happened to find today. yay!)
    • Dropped a refrigerator on my foot at work - no broken bones
    • No WD's. A connect fronted out of the blue. Good day all things considered.
  • Friday: Was supposed to hear from that redditor today but they were a no-call no-show. Uh oh. I feel uncomfortable reaching out to this person as they were doing me a kindness to begin with. I just borrow the power bill difference from a friend just to get it paid and over with. I ask the redditor if they are okay, if anything was wrong but never got a reply. This being an opiate related board, when people disappear all of a sudden, it might mean something really bad. My youtube quick-fix for my car doesn't hold and breaks again. After a 5 block walk home and a googling, I then fix it again using youtube and google as glue.

  • Saturday: Computer wouldn't boot. "Operating system not found". Call my computer repair buddy. Hard drive is dead. Fortunately, I don't keep anything important on that drive and have learned to back up my shit as per my friend's admonishments throughout the years. Drive was supplied by my computer guy, as well, for free (awesome guy).

  • Sunday: Uneventful which is good. Manage to stay well to a small degree without any drama.

Sorry for the newspaper-length post ;) I'm bored and thought this last week warranted a vent post. So much good and bad happened this week it was nuts.

TL;DR: Got a raise, a redditor offered to help financially but bailed and ignored me, car broke down, computer broke, lost and found a carton of smokes, dropped refrigerator on my foot (no break), got a new(ish) phone, managed to pay a power bill and stay well much of the week in spite of it all.

EDIT's: Stupidity

Reducing PST/making a large batch opiates

Has anybody reduced their PST so they don't have to drink so much water? I know heat will destroy the good chemicals I want but I was thinking a really low simmer or just leaving it out in a shallow pan or bucket and letting the Sun evaporate the water.

Also, does anybody know a good way to make a really big batch of tea? I want to make like a 10 pound batch and then save bottles in the refrigerator but other than the bottle shaking method / don't know any way to make a really large batch. Any ideas?

Edit: phone typing

Cold Water Extraction Question opiates

I'm fairly well versed in the CWE method. My question at this juncture is about cooling methods. Most of the tutorials tell you to put your mixture in the freezer for a little until it's cold. I have however put it in the refrigerator for an hour or two with good results. In fact I prefer this method as it seems to cool the water more evenly. Is this wrong in any way? Am I losing potency by doing this? Are there any other complications that may arise from my method? Apart from the extra time it takes, I don't see why the results shouldn't be the same as using a freezer.

Methadone clinic- ways to get away from the dosing window with some of your dose opiates

I dont want to catch a bunch of flak with this post for anyone in treatment. Probably dont have to be as worried over here as a more "treatment" oriented thread. But it is a sincere question.

I just started at a new methadone clinic. Basically, me dosing twice a day, on a lower dose, has personally worked better for me than taking a higher, once-a-day dose. My old clinic was a private pay place, and wasn't very regulatory with their dosing. So, I paid a bit more for the diskettes, and wouldnt take my full 100mg in the morning. I would take 40-50mg, and save the rest for half way through the day, or evening, depending on if I was working that day. I just switched to a place covered by insurance, but very strict with their dosing. Me, not being a pregnant woman, is not eligible for split-dosing, not accounting for the fact the short time window the clinic IS open and how far away it is from where I live. So, only real option, other than taking my full dose in the morning, is somehow getting away from the window with some of my dose. In previous clinics, if liquid, I could bring up my own drink to chase it with, and I could spit back roughly half my dose into my drink when "chasing" it, to put in the refrigerator for later. Today, my second day at this new clinic I just transferred to, I was told I could not bring my bottle up to the window, unless it was a clear liquid. (the methadose is pinkish color.) So, I took my full dose a second day in a row. If I must, I'll continue this way, as Ive had to in the past. Maybe I got a bit spoiled in my old clinic, but being able to dose twice a day (or, sometimes, even only once, with the rest saved in case of a missed day) was quite splendid. I know some may say it encourages addict behavior, but I have not relapsed at all doing it this way, havent sold my dose, and if anything, has kept me taking less overall and less at a risk for relapse. If a friend wanted to use, I could stay at home and just take my remaining 40mg and be more content than if not. Ive been in similar situations in the past, but not this strict with the liquid dosing. What do you guys think about this? And others that have done this sort of thing before, if youre comfortable speaking about it, what was your ways around it? Thanks and I hope not to offend anyone. My number 1 goal for being back on methadone is to get, and remain clean! So this is just a speedbump, if at all, but I am a bit uncomfortable now, being used to the lax-ness of my previous clinic. At this point, if I could afford it, I thnk it may have been worth the $65 weekly charge. Alas, I cannot afford it though, so Im going about an hour away (via car, luckily insurance now covers cabs, Ive been bussing it until yesterday, which took hours in the hot 115-120 degree phx, AZ sun) which this place is covered via my insurance. So thankful I dont have to pay, as I am completely out of money. So I cant complain, would just prefer to take less of my dose in the morning if I still can, without dropping my dose with the doc. Thanks guys.

Question regarding PST. opiates

I've done quite a bit of reading and research on PST (Poppy Seed Tea) and I cannot seem to pn down an answer to whether or not I can make a batch of tea and store it(in refrigerator etc) for consumption at a later time. ie: make a big batch, drink a glass and then save the rest to drink in a few hours or the next day....does anyone know if I can do this and still have the tea remain unspoiled and potent?

Cmon my fellow redditors/opiates please help answer this as you will be helping me get off the horse by combating the misery I feel from RLS during WD's....

Need you guys' help. Please. opiates

So, I'm a chronic pain patient and I take exactly how.many pills a day as I'm prescribed. Some days I'll take an extra, then on others I'll play "catch up" Any way this month I'm gonna be one day shirt, literally one day, before I get my refills. She drug tested me last time, and I used my urine I put in the refrigerator 4 days prior so it would only have opana and he exact right amount. This gave me the chance about a bowl within.the amount of two days on top of mg of xanax. Here's the dilemma, this doctors could call me in any time for a random pill count and drug screen but: I still have some if that per with only opana in it HOWEVER. It was extremely dark due to what we believe is s minor kidney infection. Anyway 2 weeks ago she ordered an mri, and now she found a lot of problem so they want to do another with dye this time (at 200 bucks a piece no doubt thanks American healthcare system!) Anyway, I have subtle track marks and scars from where I used to use. So of course I want to post pone so I can start using.products like skin bleach to make the scars fade...but has anyone had any experience like that? She said they'll have to sedate me anyone know what they give you? But anyway. My problem is what if she wants another drug screen? I'd have to use that sake Dark urine (it stays good in fridge for up to a month or more ) See. Recently my urine started to clear up and now it's even better than normal because I was only drinking water and tea. Sorry for the wall of text. But opiates community. I could really use your insight.

There's a story in here, but I needed to get things off my chest too. opiates

I know this isn't opiate related but this happened while I was out on bond after the first time I got arrested. I saw another story about mxe and it totally reminded me of this. Summer 2011

I've never done mxe but shrooms and Lucy are my favs next to dope. BUT my boyfriends roommate J, and his best friend R, bought some funky ass black shrooms. Like, purple, black. I told them they shouldn't eat em but you know. Shrooms.

So me and my bf head up to bed and they eat their shit. All of a sudden, I'm being SHOOK awake with R YELLING at me that gravity is real. Oh fuck here we go. So like the good little house wife I used to be, I get dressed, tell my boyfriend not to murder him (he was FUMING seeing as our door was now off the hinges and his naked girlfriend was man handled by his best friend), and go try to... fix? him. On the couch crying, tripping face is this lanky 6ft guy. So i try to comfort him while J is just sititng on the refrigerator watching the scene. He obviously wasn't going to quit sobbing and I had NO idea how to handle it so I took perch boy to the gas station for smokes, and let my bf handle thesobbingmess. Me and J made it MAYBE 50ft away from the door and hear this blood curdling, scream. Ohfuckohfuckohfuck someone is gonna call the cops and they're beyond fucked up and ohfuck. So me and perchboy run back to the apartment to find sobbingmess backed against a wall WITH. A. BUTCHER. KNIFE. My boyfriend is ttrying to rationalize with him that it's him and he's not gonna hurt him and looks scared to death. With a lot of coaxing I FINALLY get the motherfucker to hand me the knife, or so I thought. Next thing I know he grabs ME (the only person I still think he knew was real) and is holding this 10 inch fucking blade to my throat.

Great.

My bf and his roommate both immediately do a 180 and start SCREAMING at him to let me go. Which in hindsight, could have ended badly. At this point, I want to use the damn knife on this fucker just to end my night. Pretty much everyone in the room is crying trying to make sure that I don't end up bleeding all over the damn floor. My boyfriend disappears up the steps and I knew exactly what was going to happen. This dumb fucking sack of skeleton comes down WITH HIS FUCKING REVOLVER. can we like, NOT have a gun pointed in my direction? Especially when someone I consider my brother is practically holding me hostage at knife point? And he could, idk, MOVE?!

After FOURTY FIVE FUCKING MINUTES of my bf holding a gun against this kids head, him saying he doesnt want to kill me and a knife being shoved against my now bleeding throat, he finally let me go. I spend the next 20 minutes sobbing and J is a wreck.

But this wild fucking ride doesn't end here. As I'm regaining composure and finally start having logical thoughts besides "please don't kill me", we hear the door shut. Oh well, we have the knife, we have the ---- fucking a my bf is a goddamn idiot. We don't have the gun, and its loaded, and psycho just left the house after holding me hostage. We are now approximately 5 hours into their trip.

Now, outside our apartment are railroad tracks. I mean, we could slingshot eggs as passing traincars they're so close. Im sure you know where he was at. On the tracks, just sitting. Crying more. Mind you, its about 230am on a Friday in a college town. Last call had JUST HAPPENED and we lived on a road that's a direct shot from the bars to campus. If we couldn't control him, he was gonna end up in jail, or worse, shot.

So, me being a fucking idiot that I am, decided to try to calm him down, yet again. J is standing near the road to alert us if anyone is noticing the scene. R is crying saying how he just wants to die and he's sorry he raped me (wtf, what did he think happened???) And I try to explain that I'm not mad (it wasn't a lie, I was fucking pissed off beyond comprehension) and to just come back inside. This is when my bf finally uses his goddamn head. I see him walk over towards us out of the apartment with a huge pot. Water. He comes and just pours it all over R and me. R jumps up sending me and the gun flying. Apparently I'm promptly knocked unconscious from smashing my head against a railroad beam. So the rest of this is what my bf told me.

R starts getting pissed at my bf and screaming and then he just stops. He asks why he's wet and my bf told him he was sitting out here with a gun. R responds: fuck that, I want some cereal. After my bf realizes that I still haven't gotten up, him and J carry me to the car and take me to the hospital. I wake up with 14 stitches in my head, a helluva headache, and very pissed off. The next couple of days are still kind of blurry even 4 1/2 years later.

R went back home and apparently barely remembered any of it. He remembered holding a knife at the three of us, but didn't know why, he remembered taking the gun to throw it away (I think he was lying, I honestly think he wanted to kill himself) and he remembered yelling at my bf for the water and my blood all over my bf.

Like 2 months later I got a missed call from him and he was drunk and he was apologizing for what happened and he said he wishes he could change it.

My bf is now my ex and he's strung out on d worse than I ever have been. ODd 4 times and still going. J eventually was arrested a year later who turned into a local ci and snitching on my bf. He kept my ass safe though, he'd never let me go with my bf to !make drop offs. R was arrested for selling coke back in 2013, apparently completed probation.

I miss them. I never saw R until 2012, right before J was popped. But I miss all three of them. J was the closest thing I've ever had to a brother. Granted that one night was super fucked up, but still.

Probably a month before all of this happened, we were drinking and I broke down saying I didn't want to live. We were in a wooded area by my bfs grandmas and I just walked away to be alone. J came after me. I remember him screaming at me saying "do you really want to be 6 feet under? Alone? And know that me and (my bf) and R are watching you be lowered into the ground? Do you want him to go through that? What about me?" He started crying and I felt like the biggest peice of shit ever.

I really miss them.

Sibyl's Cave opiates

"Should we call 911?"

My eyelid is peeled back. Melo. He is growing a beard. This means it has been weeks since we hung out.

"Nah. He's just nodded. Look he's back. Yo! You ok man?"

"Yeah" I hear myself say.

Daylight from the window shines upon my ending. On my futon is a circle of blood-stained toilet paper. Within the circle is a pot we once used to cook ramen and macaroni. Now it is filled with ashes from all her burned letters and thoughtful cards, some broken needles and cigarette butts. The flotsam and jetsam of a man trying to delete his world.

"Let's take him to the clinic. He's fucked up. Can you walk?"

"Yes..?"

I stand up and fall. Arms help me back up.

"Maybe call an ambulance? Shit! There's no phone. Someone ripped it out of the wall."

"No hospital!" I beg. "I need a shot..."

"Dude I don't have anything."

Now I am alive. In my anger I see Melo clearly. Liar. Demon. Give me some fucking smack!

"Please...Melo?" I beg him.

Dev steps over and caresses my face. I jerk back. Don't touch me.

"Jackie at the clinic can help" smiles Dev. "You NEED help Vagabond!"

She tries to hug me but I push her away. These fuckers holding out on me?! They are trying to kill me. I know. Ok, I'll let them lead me for awhile and then run. I think I have some books in my closet. I'll sell them. Should be enough for today. The Mexicans by the soccer field in the park sell $15 bags. That is two normal shots. Or one fat shot. But what if I can't make it back here? What if they steal everything while I'm gone?

"Wait a second."

I open the box. The heroin is gone. I swallow the leftover pills, gather the half burned cigarettes into my pocket with the lighter that still works. Then I pick up the picture. When Dev and Melo see who it is, they both look away. I zip the photograph into the innermost pocket of my jacket where I usually hide my dope. Where I store my treasure.

Melo leads me out of my room. I walk through a stranger's house. It reeks of piss and shit and death. I recognize the couch but nothing else. Piles of garbage, holes in the walls and spray paint. The refrigerator hangs open like a yawning mouth, the light extinguished. No food is needed in a place where people wait to die. Dev tells me Melo will come back for my things but I don't care. Everything is already lost. This is the end.

They lead me out into the street and as the first waves of withdrawal stagger me. I'll get more I promise myself. It will be alright. I just gotta slip these fools and I'll get more. Enough for today...

~~~~~~~
This story began in a cave. The Roman general that burned the Libri Sibyllini beneath the Temple of Jupiter 1,500 years ago was wrong. There is more than one volume because these mad birds still sing. Sibyls are everywhere. Screaming from street corners, raving in bars, chained in hospitals and living in city parks.
And there are many, many caves in the souls of the lost.
Yes it is true chemicals ate into my brain. Frenzied ants feasting upon sugar but I can still see it so clearly in my mind...Was my life nothing but a moth's dream?
This was before they had to restrain me. This was before the sun melted the wax from my false wings. This was before I was re-trained by state issued medical professionals to be normal.
But even handcuffed to the bed I fell so far.
~~~~~~~

My friends are gone. Strangers camp here. They used to give me money or drugs. Mostly drugs. Not sure who is in charge but I hear animals fighting. Screams. There is no more electricity or cable TV. The blue, fairy glow of ice burning in crack pipes is the only light in the Darkness. The last time I walked through my living room, no one looked at me. Strangers.

A box that once contained high heels for a beautiful woman now holds my life. Heroin. Also some pills, scraps of LSD, a metal measuring spoon, lighters and a blood stained shoelace wrapped around two used needles. I cook while I still have daylight. Cooking shots is the only time my hands are steady.

At the bottom of the box, beneath it all, is a photograph. I leave her face down. I don't need to look at her. This picture is burned into my eyes.

And if I close them...

She reclines casually on a couch smoking a cigarette. It was taken during one of her blond phases. She looks up at the camera likes she knows I will be staring at this picture for one thousand years. Her eyes reach out and catch my soul. The drowning blue stare.

~~~~~~~
The mountain is cool in the summer. The path leading up to the rock face is lush with ferns, vines and flowers. The air here is floral scented and the breeze from the sea is fresh and clear. A giant crack in the rock face rises up like a frozen scream. The god's mouth.
I enter the god.
Inside is starlight. Phosphorus blues and interstellar greens softly illuminate the interior. Stalactites drip continuously as I travel down a slick, muddy trail. Down the path is a forgotten shrine carved into the wall of the cave. Someone has lit the altar fire and it crackles hypnotically as I approach. One of the columns has collapsed, knocking over a pair of statues that once embraced each other. Their youthful bodies are eerily beautiful in the flickering firelight. Her full breasts are exposed as her robes slips forward revealing rounded hips. His torso is sculpted with taunt muscles stretched in motion and life as he reaches for her...but their heads are missing. I step over the ruins to inspect the shrine. Blood offerings have been placed in the votive flames for over 2,000 years. The priests that tended this place are gone. Their civilization has fallen.
But many still worship this god.
Behind the altar, carved into the wall is a message. I trace my stained fingers across the words: 'Heaven is the embrace of the flower god. But in his sweet mercy is death.'
Once again, the god gifts me the soft peace. Flowers blossom in the Darkness.
~~~~~~~

"Oh no...It doesn't even look like a vein anymore! It looks like a long, dried up spaghetti worm. Oh my poor sweet Vagabond. Are you in there? Melo help me get him up-"

"Hold on. Those fucking tweakers are still out there- HEY! GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE! THIS ISN'T A SQUAT! GO!"

I can hear them. Old friends. The best friends. Yelling into the mouth of the god. Sounds from the real world dancing across the void.

Someone still cares? About me? I vow to take more LSD so I can stay awake in their world. Or is it my world? I have forgotten...But I don't want them to come inside my cave. No one should enter the god's scream.

For in my cave there is only slavery, madness and death.

~~~~~~~
Fiber optic cables and copper wiring suspend the office chair from hundreds of feet. But even in the lowest part of my cave there is a single ray of sunshine. It stabs the Darkness and illuminates the chair and the Sibyl.
"See the Light? There is always Pandora's gift" sings the demented thing in the chair.
A tiny doll woman dressed in a rotting, Nike tracksuit. Bare feet with black, curled toenails.
"Dev?"
"Nobody that loves you is down here" the Sibyl laughs. "Down here is just your broken hallway mirror. The dragon that eats itself!"
The chair moves in a circle above me, creaking. And she sings. A horrible noise. Truth pours from her mouth and blood weeps from her eyes. A fountain of insanity. I see it all. She tells me how it will end.
A trail of broken smiles. Women crying alone in the dark.
~~~~~~~

When the sun melts the wax, I plummet into her eyes. The deep blue of her oceans. The plunge was sudden but soothing. I want to keep sinking into her Darkness...

~~~~~~~
"Wears off quickly now doesn't it? Legs jolting in agony, thrashing in your bed...Snot streaming from your nose while you shit your fucking guts out screaming and INSANE!" screeches the thing in the office chair.
I cover my ears and pray for my god to soothe the madness. But she is right. My shot is already wearing off.
"You will fall back to your wretched life! IF YOU'RE LUCKY."
The Sibyl leers at me, her face blurring like a deck of shuffling cards. Shuffling faces of women I know. The faces flip past but She keeps coming up. Her eyes...
"Succumb to Heaven! Kiss me with blue lips! Hold me with cold arms! No longer cry about Earthly possessions or love. Soon the moths will come and cover your eyes! From sniffing to smoking. From smoking to shooting. What is left? Oh you know what is left...One last high my love!"
My ears are covered but the Sibyl's cackling laughter echoes inside my skull. There is a vacuum WHOOSH! and I fall. The beam of sunlight vanishes. The altar fires are cold. The smothering blackness crushes me as I feel moths brushing against my face.
"The skeleton in the corner cradles your clock babe" whispers Kym's voice from the Darkness.
I scream and scream and scream.
~~~~~~~

The god speaks. "I can make it all go away. Heaven. You know the my price."

And the love of a god is a powerful thing. I writhe around in a sickly moist spot trying to find myself. I think I pissed the futon. Or maybe it's sweat. The room is dark but I find the box, take the shoelace and tie off. I slap my arm feverishly. Rise goddamn you! Show me the road to my heart. Just one more time!

~~~~~~~
"Mrs. Severson? Hello, my name is Devika Liora! I'm a friend of your son. Hi. Well you need to pick him up. He's very ill" says Dev into the pay phone. "What? We tried to take him to the clinic but he refused. He gave me this number."
When you wake up on the sidewalk, you know you fucked up. You might not remember when or where...but you definitely fucked up. My cheek presses against the concrete. It's still warm from the morning sun. I can smell piss and bleach here. Garbage obscures my view but I hear people walking by. I doubt they would spare me a look. City people walk with purpose. Eyes forward and never acknowledging the lost.
They just keep walking.
"We should call an ambulance" mutters Melo.
"No hospital!" I groan.
I feel very strongly about this. Once I go in...
"Ok. We are at Valenc-" says Dev but she stops and throws her hands up in despair. "She needs a pen! Melo, give him some of that valium."
"Really?"
"Yes Mr. Melo! With his habit he will be hurting so just-oops. Wait a second" says Dev going back to the phone. "Yes! Hi! Ok, do you have a pen ready?"
I try to get up. The effort makes my world smear and tumble. I feel like I'm falling. The dizziness of daylight tumbles down, crushing, squeezing...and I puke.
"Eww gross" squeaks Dev. "What? No Mrs. Severson. He's fucked up, I mean excuse me, he's sick. I don't know! Drugs or something? Can you get him please? The 600 block of Valencia. Near the used clothing place. How long? Ok. We'll wait. Please hurry. Ok. Goodbye."
"I'm sick" I announce uselessly.
No one says anything. I curl into a protective ball on the sidewalk. Looking up, I can see a pink sign.
SAVE NOW!
"Yes please."
Darkness.
~~~~~~~

Dev fed me some valium and shared a cigarette with me while we waited. Sharing a cigarette with her reminded me of Kym. The three us always shared smokes. She held my hand the whole time and promised me everything would be all right. My mom pulled up. Too weak to stand, Melo helped me into the car. Bless Devika. And though I never saw her again, it was not the last kindness she gifted me.

Dreams are funny things.

I'm 23, lost the love of my life, flunked out of school, smell like piss and am nothing but a sick, demented junkie. My mom is talking. I blur in and out of reality and comprehend only fragments.

"...a junkie!...knew this would...like your father! Great staff...hospital..."

"NO!" I yell. "No hospital!"

"Honey! You're so sick! The doctors will make you..."

And I give up. No more reasons to do anything but wait and see what happens next. It can't be any worse. Right? I try and take out her picture but my hands are shaking too much to work zippers.

I am dying. Someone cries. Me? My mom? Both?

Then it happens. The mercy. Maybe I ate LSD when I swallowed pills...Maybe the car stereo is on. Maybe my brain stuck in the Maui loop.

That song she used to listen to to get ready to go out...'Dreaming' by Blondie. And I can see her dancing. The song poured into her soul and radiated from her body like an exploding sun. At a club, all dressed up and her rhythm is pure gravity. A celestial body in motion creating the Universe. Everyone watches her dance for she is beautiful, erotic and connects them to the energy that shapes the tide and moves the planet. But I was luckier. I not only saw but I also tasted. I smelled the heat rise off of flesh as she danced only for me. Dancing wild and free. Wearing only her Egyptian eyeliner highlighting that drowning blue stare...

My falling star. My wish that slipped away. Power, magic and unearthly beauty. You bind me to reality for I remember you walking down the street. Your hand in mine. You are real. Proof how lovely it is without the god.

There is no god.

My husband sucks opiates

I'm pretty sure my husband took the 200 dollars I was saving for pills on top of the refrigerator. I should have hid that money, I'm an idiot and now I'm out 200 bucks when the connect finally gets back to me. Fuck!! I'm pissed. He's saying he didn't touch it but that shit wouldn't get up and walk away. I hope I find it and feel like an ass for accusing him but I just know that money is gone.... FML

Baby Blues: A Memoir - Chapters 3 & 4; "The Worst Night of My Life" opiates

author's note: for chapters 1-2, please see my post from yesterday. I debated on keeping chapter 3, but it provides background which lends support to chapter 4, so bear with me.

Chapter 3

Walking through the doors of my new school, I am as nervous as a man on trial. It is a private school, and one of my choosing, but the student body numbers perhaps one-hundred, and I will immediately be noticed as the new kid. This is my one shot, however, and I refuse to blow it. A condition of my release from the hospital was that I no longer be kept out of school. I had a bargaining chip, and I took it. Rocky Mountain Academy has a reputation for sending kids to good colleges, and flowing heavy with drug supplies. So here I am, entering the first day of tenth grade for the second time.

As I walk into my chemistry class, I am tense. I feel it in my muscles, like a deer sensing a pack of predators. Already I feel out of place in my cargo shorts and Hollister tee. Why did I wear this? First period is chemistry. The people in this room have a sense of camaraderie. They have known each other for nearly their entire lives. I am acutely aware of my status as an interloper. But they have not made up their minds yet. I am in a state of quantum superpositioning, both someone they like and dislike. One wrong move, and they will ostracize me.

A single boy stands out from the herd. His shaggy hair, baggy jeans, and Bob Marley hoodie suggest that he views himself as an outsider, too, and wraps his identity up in his drug use. He looks at me, and noticing my nervousness, beckons toward an open seat next to him. Smiling, I sit down clumsily and introduce myself. He tells me his name.

“Welcome, man. I’m Jacob.” he says warmly. He has a comforting presence, and seems wiser than his age might suggest. Already, I hope to become friends with him. But now the teacher has begun the lecture, and that will have to wait.

It is P.E. sometime during the first week. Jacob mentions something about weed to me while we sit on the bench. He is fishing for hints that I might share his habits. Enthusiastically, I tell him, “Yeah, dude. I totally smoke.” Ugh, I sound like a complete tool. He takes no notice. Now he is the one talking to me, and not me to him.

“Where can I score around here?” I ask as nonchalantly as possible. Broaching the subject of opiates would be premature right now.

“Ask Daniel.” he replies, pointing across the gym to a tall, skinny senior with long blonde hair and a baja. “He’ll hook it up.”

Hooking it up means paying twenty dollars for what I can only estimate to be two grams of mid-grade bud. I buy it gratefully, trying to hide my desperation to get high on something. Should I ask this kid if he knows where to find roxies? No, too risky, I tell myself. He might stop selling to me altogether.

“Come over to my house after school, man. We’ll smoke up.” Jacob says during our free period.

“For sure!” I try unsuccessfully to mask my enthusiasm.

Jacob’s basement is a shrine dedicated to the worship of all things marijuana. Colorful posters adorn the walls, and paraphernalia litters the desk and coffee table. I sit down on the couch. Whipping out a two foot bong, Jacob loads a bowl from some of the finest nugs I have seen. Before long, I am higher than I have ever been in my short pot smoking career.

“Here’s the thing about our school, man. Everyone fucking sucks.” declares Jacob as he blows out a thick cloud. “You might not see it yet, but you will... in time. They’re complete fucking pussies. They don’t get it.”

“They seem nice enough to me.”

“You’ve only been here one day. Wait until they find out you smoke pot.”

“Well, mainly I’m a pillhead.” I remark sardonically.

“Pills? These kids will eat you alive when they figure that out!”

My phone rings, cutting through the now hotboxed room. I answer reluctantly.

“It’s my mom, dude. She wants me home now.”

As I walk home, I become aware of just how high I am. Paranoia creeps up into my consciousness, strangling my thoughts. Approaching my house, I see my mom standing in the doorway. She is generally upset with me, but today she looks downright livid. Fuck. She must suspect something. Try to play it off. She refuses to give me the chance.

“Let me smell your breath.” she insists. I have no choice but to take the risk.

Before I can come up with an excuse, I find myself the recipient of a virulent tirade. Worthless, loser, mistake: these are merely a few pejoratives I find directed at me. Who cares? I deal with this talk sober all the time. Now she wants to test me for marijuana on a weekly basis. I tell her to go ahead. Inside I know God wants me to feel his embrace once more. Opiates were always the way to go.

She calls Jacob’s parents, and he is mad at me for a few days before we return to business as usual. He directs me to a local kid who sells 30mg roxies, and I pick a few up. The familiar feeling comes back to greet me like an old friend as I sink into my first nod in several months. Like coming home, coming home, home, home... Chapter 4

A benzo high is a treacherous opponent, sneaky in the way it coaxes the mind into letting down its guard. Never trust a benzo. It takes victims by surprise, altering memories and warping reality to fit its needs. Other drugs are straightforward in their effects. You are acutely aware that you are nodding out, stoned, or tripping. Not so with the benzodiazepine. The hallmark of any decently strong benzo is that the more one takes, the less one is aware that they are under the influence of a mind-altering substance.

“Have you ever done benzos dude?” Jacob asks me. We sit on the curb in the neighborhood smoke spot. Denver is full of such crevices, always populated by at least a few teens trying to get their buzz on. We pay no attention to the law these days. Legalization is on the horizon, probably in the next few years. We can sense it in our endocannabinoid system.

“What’s a benzo?”

“It’s kinda like being drunk without the goggles. Nice mellow high.”

“What do you have?”

“K-pins.”

“Oh, I’ve heard of those.” I haven’t.

“I’m selling them for two bucks a pop.” Jacob has been paying more attention to pharmaceuticals since I introduced him to opiates.

“Damn bro, I’ll take ten.” My experience buying oxys has jaded my notions of what a pill should cost.

Jacob hands them over, tiny and orange. I immediately take 2. My house is five minutes away, but by the time I walk in the door, I am feeling pleasantly calm. The high is soothing, but nothing compared to the all-encompassing embrace of a nod. For now, it seems fine. Time will tell whether I shell out money for more of these. I sit in my bedroom, locked to the bed by this chemical force of nature, mind vacant. Soon enough, though, the high wears off, and I am left feeling tired and unimpressed. Fuck it, I think. These aren’t shit. I could do these anytime. It is a dangerous conclusion, but sooner or later, some lessons must be learned the hard way. Sticking the devious little things in my backpack, I crawl into bed and pass out gently.

“I think I’m gonna do some during this period.” I say as the bell rings and we pack away our notebooks.

“I’ll probably do one with you, man.” Jacob responds nonchalantly. We head into the bathroom furtively, and the deed is done. True to his word, Jacob eats a single pill. I eat four. We head to our next class, glad to have a way to ignore it.

Nearly twenty minutes later, I begin to wonder why it is that I feel nothing. Stumbling out of my seat, I mumble some excuse to my teacher and wobble toward the door. Why is it not working yet? The hallway warps around me as I careen toward the bathroom. These must be especially weak. I’ll just pop a few more. Slurping some water from the faucet, I toss another three harmless looking pills into my mouth.

Spanish class is when I begin to think I may have been given duds. God, this class is hilarious. I can’t stop laughing for the life of me. Why is everyone staring at me? Can’t they see how funny this is? My fit stops as I topple from my chair and hit the ground. Sitting back down, I think to myself that I have to tell Jacob these pills are no good. The teacher is yelling at me. What does he want?

“Come sit up next to me until you can behave yourself.” I’m laughing again now, but I do as he says and contain myself until the bell rings.

English class. We have a quiz today. I hate this teacher. She is a menopausal, uptight bitch... Shit, did I say that out loud? No, no, of course I didn’t. Why is this quiz written in such a confusing manner. I raise my hand to ask a question.

“Why are you yelling?” the kid in the seat next to me asks.

“Why indeed, Mr. Mostlysapien?” this blonde gargoyle of a woman asks in a shocked tone of voice.

“I’m not yelling.” I respond.

“You’re still doing it!”

“Sorry.” I whisper. Several people give me strange looks, as though I’d just committed some terrible indecency, and the quiz resumes as normal.

As the final bell rings, I stumble toward the car. Mom asks me how my day was. I tell her it was fine. She looks at me with a raised eyebrow, but I put my headphones on and press play on my iPod. The drive home is uneventful. I’m very happy.

Climbing up the stairs to my room as I arrive home, I slip and fall down the whole flight of them. It doesn’t hurt at all. I must have been lucky. The floor feels nice. I decide to lay there for a few minutes, giggling. Then I head up to my room. A few minutes later, a knock sounds at my door, and Mom walks in, looking concerned.

“What’s wrong with you? Are you on something?”

“What? No, of course not!” I snicker. That’s a funny thing to ask me.

“Tell me right now if you’re on drugs, Mostlysapien!”

“No. I’m... Not. Not on anything.”

“Why are you slurring your words and taking so long to respond to me?!”

She says more words. I say more words. She leaves the room. I sit there, slowly coming to terms with the horrifying notion that perhaps those Klonopin worked a great deal more than I thought. The minutes pass by as I try to figure out what is happening.

There is a much firmer knock on the door, and a voice from outside.

“Can I come in, man.” a husky baritone sounds muffled through the door. It is my brother, John. In his mid-thirties, John is related to me through the same mother, but he is far older. Having had more than his fair share of drug experiences at my age, it makes sense that Mom would have called him over. Recently, he moved into the same apartment complex as us, working odd jobs, so he took no time in heading over. Standing six and a half feet tall, and built like a refrigerator, he is an imposing presence in the room.

“Tell me what’s going on, bro. I’ve been around the block a few times. I understand, don’t worry.”

“I don’t want to tell you.” I’m panicking. Can I trust him? Mom asked him over. Will he tell her?

“I promise I won’t tell Mom.” he assures me, as though reading my mind.

I sigh, “I took a lot of klonopin.”

The door slams open and in walks my mom. She has a look on her face that I never wish to see again. This is more than anger. This is pure rage.

“How fucking dare you, you little piece of shit! Doing drugs at school?! You are never going to leave this house again!”

“Mom! Mom, calm down!” my brother pleads. She continues her rant, and I make a break for the door. If I can get out of the house, go somewhere and come down, I’ll be fine, I tell myself. Noticing my move, Mom blocks the door. Dad has heard the noise by now, and he’s in the doorway too, looking like a deer in the headlights. I am trapped, caged like an animal. No escape.

My body is in fight-or-flight mode now. My eyes skip toward the large window behind me. Can I make the drop? No one expects me to try. Crossing the room in a stride, I thrust my elbow into the windowpane, shattering it. John lunges for me. There’s not enough time to get out. Fight it is, then. Ducking John, I clutch the largest, most dagger-like fragment of glass from the ground. My brother bounced at clubs for years, and stands a full foot over me. Even sober, he could disarm me without breaking a sweat. As I swipe at him menacingly with my shiv, he twists it from my wrist and tackles me to the ground, bringing his full weight to bear on my chest. Unexpectedly, however, the benzo high has given me an advantage in this fight: I am impervious to pain. Adrenaline shoots through my body, and feeling like a very small Hulk, I simply lift John off of me and resume my flight toward the door. He grabs me again, this time putting me in a bear hug as he pins me to the floor. I lift him off again as though he were a sack of potatoes.

Suddenly, another body joins the fray. Pete is our next door neighbor. Dark skinned, and slightly bigger than John, my parents have had time to run next door and tell him it is an emergency. He pins one of my arms as John pins the other. Completely insane now, I slide out from underneath the both of them, shoving John against the wall. He comes back at me, insisting that he only wants to help me in as loud and calm a voice as he can muster. I scream primally, fully transformed into a savage and unnatural creature.

Dad’s voice drifts through the yelling and grunting: “He’s upstairs.”

Pete is forced backward once more, and as I rise once again I feel an intense pain radiating throughout my body, accompanied by a white noise in my eardrums that drowns out all other sound. As I collapse to the ground, I make out the discharged taser gun stretching from my neck to the uniformed police officer at the entrance of my room. Then the lights turn off.

Temple of Greed: Dope Star opiates

Rosie issued me a company credit card when I started here for client entertainment and equipment purchases. Today is the first time I have ever used it. I fill out the forms for the $1,500.00 certified check and let them cross reference my ID. Then I took the certified check to the Santa Clara County Jail to bail out Rosie.

Cops found Rosie in her car, passed out in the parking lot of Whole Foods. Normally they let rich, professional drunks go when they sober up but Rosie mouthed off, got searched and had four empty bags of coke and a half burnt joint.
"They impounded my car!", she grumbles indignantly as I lead her out into the harsh, Californian sunlight. She pauses, pulls sunglasses on and looks at me.

"How did you get here?"

"Bus."

"Fahking unreal!" she groans in disappointment.

This is an expression Rosie learned from me but it sounds better in her South American accent.

I was explaining how the bus schedule works when she waves her hand like I was a bug, yanks out her cellphone and calls a cab.

"Do you have any coke?" she asks after bumming one of my cigarettes.

"No."

"Alright my place. I need a line. No! Two lines. And half a joint. And coffee! Police coffee tastes like sour, German ass."

I don't ask.

We walk to the curb to wait for the cab and pass a newspaper stand. A picture of Rosie smiles from Metro Weekly. I take one and read the article.

"Rising Tech Stars-" But she cuts me off.

"Garbage! Only useful for my CV. They didn't put in the four plugs I needed. Fucking bitch reporter. Bryan is so pissed! This makes me look narcissistic. But good photo eh? But the other three interviews are potato men."

As Rosie showers, I watch CSPAN's coverage of NASA Mission Control. My dream job. I see an empty chair as engineers mill around. That could be my chair if the story had a happy ending. Calculating assist burn for Space Shuttle Columbia's ascent. Not waiting in this crazy coked up dyke's apartment after bailing her out of jail.

I roll a thick joint of her weed and wonder if this counts as a work day? Just the thought of going in the office fills me with sighs. To get a good work mask on I must be high. Not enough to push away dopesick pain, but HIGH. And that...is a waste of drugs.

"You know you really need to start going to work" says Rosie from her bedroom. I smile and exhale the smooth, hydroponic green bud. Seems the Universe sews me into places where I am wanted. She smells the joint and looks in.

"Why are you smiling? Are you high on drugs?" demands Rosie as she takes the joint and hits it.

"Just a little. You know how it is" I respond semi truthfully.

Luckily my sleeves are rolled down. Luckily Rosie called me after my morning half shot. Luckily I was lucid enough to follow the instructions for bail. The Universe led me to this moment. Rosie is right. I need my job because I enjoy electricity, running water and opiates. I'm no farmer living off my land. I have no real world skills like fixing cars or cutting hair. Sadly, my best contribution to society is as an office cog.

"Linda is ambitious" warns Rosie as she smooths out the final touches in her bizarre, asexual power suit.

Her transformation from a night in jail attire to this vicious, sleek corporate predator is startling. I can learn things from Rosie. She would share this con for she actually likes me. But I'm too high to think about silly shit like that. One day at a time. That's what my therapist said in county rehab.

Ah Linda. I hired her myself. Trained her to do the things I hate and she slowly took over. At first I bossed her around. She was a meek thing and enjoyed instruction. But I am gone more than half the week. She learned to fend for herself. When people come by to ask about projects they acknowledge me but ask Linda all the serious stuff.

She has stolen my glow and lo and behold- Linda shines brightly. I see it. They see it. I'm just too tired to care.

"Ok I'll go" I say looking at my watch. It is 10:50am. Pop in, show my face and go to lunch. Read some news, get high and go home. I can do this. For one thing I have 3 roxys in my coat pocket. Just enough to bleed out the day.

Walking in with Rosie is a trip. A corporate power trip. Her meticulous look and South American accent make her an exotic, magnetic, powerful thing. People worship her. They sense her star is on the rise. And trailing in her stardust is the only reason people put up with me.

So many clamor for her favor or a bit of her time. They see Rosie on TV and worship her media status in this temple of greed. Why does Rosie like me? She is an ambitious woman and I am lazy man. Yet we are twins. Venom twins. Many times I have caught her and carried her home. She has returned the favor. We shield each other from truths and allow the fantasy world to continue uninterrupted. I don't want to fuck her and she does not want to fuck me. Just removing that layer makes us closer. Less bullshit.

We pull up to the compound while Rosie barks instructions to her assistant Mitch. Get my car out of impound! Sic lawyers on the cops! Get a copy of the arrest report! 12:30 lunch reservations as Shiono's and so on and so forth as I pay the the cabbie. We walk inside and sense things are off instantly. People are milling around like zombies. Brainless and lost.

"Internet is out" explains the lobby receptionist. I pop my first roxy.

Without screens to focus on human interaction is happening. I am very uncomfortable. When Rosie storms off I am lost. I feel the first blue hitting me and go the restroom to rail the second one. 60 mg should help. This one caresses the back of my brain and I go to my desk. Linda appears instantly for a meeting.

"Linda I just got here. I need to check my email-"

"The internet is down. You owe me a status meeting. So let's start with red tier projects" drones Linda all puffed up with self importance.

She looms over me with her list and it feels like a police interrogation. I stare at her balefully as she recites the events that transpired while my brain was off planet. She opens up a binder and starts to read off agendas, reports and communications that she has meticulously culled into her demonic tome.

"Did you see Robinson's email about the commerce section?"

"No."

"Have you had a chance to look at the Kennedy/Flaig partnership?"

"No."

"Have you-"

"Look Linda, I gotta go poo."

I stand up and walk away smiling. I wanted to say 'shit' but my brain screamed 'No!'. For some reason 'poo' came out. What a marvelous word. I realize that was a huge transgression but when she reports me, everyone will smirk when she says 'poo'. Ah fuck me. Oh well. I can't complain about Linda. She is merely doing her job. And my job. Plus, I did hire her.

Man, the office is too bizarre without internet. I am not the only one weirded out now that we are cut off from the internet teat. When the reports come in that the city of Mountain View road crews damaged a huge section of communication repeaters, the engineers were the first to leave.

Ben is agitated and tells me, "This is fucked! The infrastructure is fucked. Internet should not come from a fucking wire like a goddamn telegraph service! It should come from the sky!"

"The sky?" smiles the receptionist Minnie who was hired on her merits. Today a blue crystal dangles hypnotically above her v-necked merits.

"Yes! The sky! Like Skynet. In fact Minnie, it should be ILLEGAL to be offline!"

And Ben storms off.

"Did I upset him?" asks Mary looking worried.

I don't think any of us have ever seen Ben angry. And no one has ever seen him leave early. A common myth is that Ben lives in the building. The sleeping bag, refrigerator and dresser in his cubicle do little to dissuade this.

"Naw. Don't worry about Ben."

I am trying to just sneak off but the roxy magic makes me social. I can sense Minnie is going to ask me something so I lean on the counter and wait.

"Do you think we, like the admins, have to stay if the internet is broken?"

She smiles and is sitting up straight. I am an old pro with busty females and do not fall into the cleavage trap. I will not look. But fuck, I am also high and I really don't care what she does.

"I'm not your boss Minnie. I'm leaving. Seems pointless to stay-"

"Thanks!"

And like that she scoops up her jacket, grabs her travel mug of coffee and skips out the door. Tra la la la la. I smile and follow her. Fuck this place.

I wake up to a 6:50 am. alarm. Why? Then I hear it. Snoring. Seriously loud snoring. Sera. She snores like a man. I look around as the clock SCREAMS. I am on the couch in the living room. Sunlight slices through the blinds and a knife beam hits Mycroft the fish illuminating his midnight blue armor. He stares at me expectantly.

I walk down the hall. In the bedroom I see Sera buck naked, face down and snoring on my bed. What an ass. I know she is shy about her weight but damn. You just want to sink your teeth into that fleshy paradise. And I probably did last night even though Sera is someone's girlfriend. We have a complicated relationship.

I sit next to her, turn off the alarm clock. Once I'm awake my mind goes into math mode. It was around 1:30 am when I took a half shot in the bathroom. I sneak these in because Sera has seen me OD and worries. But this batch is on the weak side. The Gargoyle gets the shit Mexican black tar, some ECP/Dragon and Roxicodone 30mg. I prefer the roxy over the Mexican but my tolerance is through the stratosphere these days. Pills are expensive. Three for $40 and I need all three to touch the god. So black tar in my blood is pure economics. I don't feel the pain but sense it is coming. Mornings are hard on me. My flesh is like stone and I just want to lay there and suffer. There is only one cure.

I get my kit which is hidden under my desk drawer and go into the bathroom. Yawning, I cook up a batch, tie myself off and inject a bit above the last one. I should be more careful. Don't want to crush a vein. I clean myself up, wipe away the blood and use antibiotic ointment and a bandaid. As my nod gallops across the sea towards my weary spirit, I spray aerosol air freshener and clean up.

When I was "sober", I was an alcoholic pothead. I ate a lot. I loved Indian food, Persian and Mexican. Chinese food and salads were constant. I would kill the bathroom every morning with a humongous, healthy bowel movement. And I would spray this aerosol air freshener. I haven't shit for 3 days or eaten much besides candy and soda. But now I spray it not for shit but for that unpleasant vinegar tang of Mexican black tar boiling on a spoon. I walk out to wake Sera.

"Hey! Get up!"

"What the fuck!" she yells popping up. Then she see's me and smiles. "Oh. Hey...hi."

I collapse next to her as the smack circulates within my body easing up the tensions of life. Sera lays next to me and strokes my face. I am high and this feels nice. I know this is where I send mixed signals but I am only flesh and bones. This room is stark white, the color all apartments come in. My curtains are Mars red and the sun burns beyond them one astronomical unit away. When transfused with sunlight, Sera's purple eyes glow violet. When she stares at me, I am transfixed.

"We were both sleeping on the couch after we uh you know..." smiles Sera pushing her face into my neck and cheek. Sera nuzzles politely. She never bites. She waits for you to take her.

But I remain still. Waiting for the god to take me.

The god is spreading my love across the cosmos. Bits of me are disintegrating to the stars. The sacrifice of another day lost. I left many untied bits yesterday when I said rude things and left. I see my phone blinking but I turned off it's voice. Silence is needed. Respect for the god.

"You were yelling last night. Again" sighs Sera.

"Sorry."

"You pushed me away" says Sera as she props herself up to look at my face.

I don't need to ask. My dream is always the same dream.

"You were talking to her" says Sera sadly as she strokes my face.

I look away. I DID feel her. Often I do not. Usually it is just the dark corridor where my pain echoes and touches nothing. Nothing at all. But last night for a moment I know she was watching. I was focused on my lighter during the cook and those clear blue eyes peered back. I almost dropped the spoon. Almost.

But now it is morning. Sera is taking her wake and bake bong hit and I am staring at the ceiling. Rational. There is a lot of blue in a butane flame. More oxygen in the mix makes it fully combustible...right? I take the lighter as Sera hacks up a huge roiling cloud of marijuana smoke. I flick it and stare through the smoke. Not much blue, but a little.

Opening the Gate opiates

Someone had placed me on my side which was wise. Looking down I can see the bed lamp reflecting dimly in a puddle of gastric juices, Jim Beam and beer. Discovering your vomit is always a curious thing. More so in a unfamiliar room.

I sit up and look around. Someone's guest room. Comfortable, functional, tasteful. Family portraits on the wall, a Monet reproduction from his lilies series near the window, a made bed with cushions and a quilt. On the table is someone's coke. I thank the Universe for this moment and snort. It bursts behind my right eyeball and my brain crackles to attention. I find my jacket and walk out into the hall.

I clean myself up in a bathroom and peek in the medicine cabinet. Nothing good. Perhaps the owner is aware of my kind. Maybe he is one of us. Or maybe someone like my girlfriend beat me to the punch.

A clock I pass tells me it is 3:33 in the a.m. The Witching hour. I hear distant human noises and follow them into a spacious living room. My boots reverberate off the hardwood floor for this part of the house is silent. A sharp contrast to events earlier. Before music blasted, hundreds of drunken voices rose up in unison as a challenge to the alien night sky. I look outside in the silent gloom. The pool is full of beer cans, cups, lawn furniture, clothes and towels. A fountain nymph has been knocked over and beheaded. Trash is strewn everywhere. From the amount of smashed wine bottles on the patio it looks like they found the cellar. Every door and cabinet on the outdoor bar is yanked open and the contents spewed across the lawn. An outdoor refrigerator stands wide open and is on fire. The flickering flames make the reflection of my face orange and demonic in the window pane.

I keep walking.

The house was locked during the party so inside is another world. Clean and orderly. The smells of an unknown family. Spices, cooking scents and lemon furniture polish. A gas fireplace cheerfully burns. The mantle is covered with a nautical clock collection. An archipelago of Persian rugs over a wooden floor leads me to the theater room where I find my friends. Dev and Jason are playing Mario Kart while Kym and Melo talk with three guys I saw earlier. Melo looks up at and grins.

"There he is!"

"I feel...", I pause because the world blurs for a moment. It retracts slowly and then pops back into focus. I rub my face. "I feel weird."

"Yeah you got knocked out", said Jason leaning into a turn as Dev shrieks something about turtle shells.

Kym stands up and walks over to me. Tonight she wears a red bandana wrapped around purple hair. A white crop top, gold belly chain and black jeans with a wide, silver studded belt. Black boots and her leather jacket. She recently got her jacket spiked to match mine. Her leather features the next star chart on the Milky Way traveling away from our solar system. Kym caresses my cheek which throbs.

"Did I win?"

Kym laughs and kisses me.

"You almost tied?", offers Dev from the floor.

"Almost babe", agrees Kym smiling. "Not much of a fighter are you?"

"That was my second fight. The first was was in third grade with Tommy Melkin."

"Did you win?" asks Melo.

"No. I ran away after he hit me."

Earlier in San Francisco, Dev knocks on our door. I let her in suspiciously. When she is alone there are sometimes spirits and otherworldly entities swirling around her. But she just wanted to take a shower. Kym allows this so I let her in. When she comes out she goes into our room to help Kym paint tiny skulls on her nails. Later Melo comes by.

"Party in Emerald Hills", says Kym.

"Where?"

"Emerald Hills. The Peninsula" says Kym. "Melo we have to hit up a liquor store ok?"

Melo turned 21 first so the poor bastard gets to buy booze for us 20 year olds. The perk is he always gets drunk for free when he hangs out.

"It's my friend Annie from school. She's turning 20 and her parents are in France so...party. Sorry guys. These people are kinda weird" warns Dev.

I look at her. Dev cuts her hands to draw ritual blood magic circles. She talks to spirits and old gods. So I have to ask.

"Weird?"

"Suburb kids. Gap clothes, Jamba Juice wheat grass purges and frozen yogurt...Trust fund drop outs with thousand dollar Beanie Baby collections" she offers.

"What? Like sane versions of you Dev?" says Jason strolling in through the front door.

He lifts up his shirt and pulls a McDonalds bag from his waistband and dumps it on the table. He drops next to it and takes out all the coke and heroin he scored across the bay.

"Not much China white", says Jason. "All tar. Mexicans have a chokehold on the competition. Only the biker guys and Vietnamese dudes have powder. And boy do they know it."

"Maybe I don't want to go", says Dev in a small voice.

We all can see why. Dev was totally that weird kid that never fit in. We have always viewed her as our insane friend and just go with it. But growing up? That must have been cruel.

"Dev! Fuck Monkey is playing your friend's party!" says Kym waving a cigarette around to make her point.

Kym is obsessed with Fuck Monkey because lately she has been on a disco kick. Fuck Monkey is a cover band. Mostly Bee Gees and Abba.

"Fuck Monkey!" she emphasizes again as Jason tears the foil.

"But all those people...they were so-" Dev scrunches into an embryonic ball on the floor with her knees to her chin.

Her fear of her high school peer group is the first normal thing I have ever seen from Dev. So I offer, "We can always go to Slims."

"C'mon Dev!", begs Kym rolling her eyes and clutching Dev's filthy orange gypsy skirt. "I'm from fucking Danville! The suburbs suck! But Fuck Monkey! Please!"

"Oh fuck you Khadja", says Dev still frowning. Then she looks up, "OK. Fine. Let's go but Melo?"

"Hmm?"

"I need the kit."

And we smoke. Dev shoots. The poppy's bloom behind our eyes and time erodes into the Friday night. We do coke as Kym gets ready and Jason orders a pizza. Finally, Melo carries Dev's slumped body to the car and Kym drives us south into the suburbs.

"Who the fuck is this bitch?" yells the largest goddamn talking primate I have ever seen.

I know who the bitch is. But this guy? Holy fucking steroid crazy mutant motherfucking shit! He's not very tall which makes it worse. The short ones HATE me. But he is wide and ridiculously muscular. His arms and neck are thicker than my thighs. I walk into this knowing I am truly fucked.

All night this dominate primate man craps on everything. His name is Baron for fuck's sake. All he talks about is beating up people. He sucks down beer after beer. His face was almost angelic. Blond curls framing olive green eyes. But the eyes were dead. Like a domesticated beast. Dumb. Dull. Reflecting very little human soul. His chin was like the end of a brick and everything below it was solid.

The band was amazing. They were dressed like extras from Les Misérables. Short set but intense with that infectious disco bass. They played on a lawn that was at least a half acre long broken up by fountains and statuary. This type of wealth astounds me. I showed Melo the reproduction of the mosaic depicting Alexander the Great breaking the army of Darius, last king of the Achaemenid Empire. Japanese koi fish swam over it. Kym and Dev walk by smoking cigarettes and talking. Obviously at ease in their childhood surroundings. They never even glance at the beauty and symbolic power of the Alexander mural.

Dev knew the house code to the elevator so we could go inside. On the ground level was a space that housed the car and motorcycle collection. Ride the elevator down to the underground pool and gym facilities. Ride up to the atrium entrance. A spiral stairway led to the bedrooms. Jason complained loudly about this.

"What the fuck Winchester mystery house? Elevator to the subterranean pool but not the bedroom? The architect must have been smoking Mexican tar. Shit makes you lazy. Now if he had the ECP he would have built hamster tube connectors for the coked out fuckers who can't stand being trapped in elevators."

Two smaller houses flank the main compound. One for each sister. A family of four would be comfortable in either structure. I sit in one of these houses and look at yearbooks. Outside is a swarming cluster fuck of bored college-aged suburban kids mingling under tiki torch lights, swimming and getting wasted on expensive liquor. In the yearbook I find a freshmen Devika Liora. A tiny, awkward normal looking girl with a sexless utilitarian haircut. But a glorious fucking smile. Sophomore year she has a dyed black goth mushroom hairdo and a scowl. Junior year she has a shaved head and painted, manic eyes. No senior picture. Then I hear trouble outside.

"Who the fuck is this bitch?" yells the largest goddamn talking primate I have ever seen.

And Kym is toe to toe with the monster yelling back.

"Fuck you! Who the fuck do you think you are? Get the fuck out of here!" she yells as she throws the contents of her keg cup on him.

The crowd holds it breath as the red cup bounces off his enormous, sloped forehead. Baron is the biggest asshole for miles and has been King Bully from kindergarten to this moment. Whoever he was tormenting backed off and Kym filled the spot.

He gapes at his Tommy Hilfiger shirt in disbelief. The beer presses the material against his wide chest as I make my way towards the circle. The crowd sensing violence reacts.

"Hey Baron! It's all good! Let it go dude!"

"Hey c'mon man. Let it go!"

But more frightening:

"Fucking cunt! Get her Baron! Get HER!"

As he looks up I stand between them. His piggy little eyes sparkle. I see joy as thoughts are processed through the smooth lobes of his brain.

"Sorry", I say. "We're leaving ok?"

And he swings. I have a half second to drop back as his fist slams into my shoulder throwing me back into Kym. We both fly back a good three feet and slide across the ground into the scattering stampede of onlooker's feet as they scramble to make way. I jump up and throw myself at him with no idea what I'm supposed to do. Baron catches me in midair. His fingers are like bananas and crush me in the grip as he rears back to beat me. With useless arms I slam my forehead into his face. I feel a CRACK and he drops me bellowing. Now I have chance! I look up...and wake up sideways on the someone else's couch smelling my stomach contents.

"Cheater!", shrieks Dev.

Jason dramatically leaps to his feet while tossing the controller in the air and points at her, "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!"

"I think I'm gonna puke again", I announce.

"Have some water" says Melo offering me a bottle.

"Have you considered the possibility that you may have a concussion?" asks the Arabic looking kid wearing an O'Neil hoodie.

"I have no idea what happened", I shrug.

His friend sitting next to him in glasses is rolling a joint and looks up. "Baron just started throwing uppercuts into your body and then he clocked you with a right. Lights out."

"Ah."

Kym puts her arms around my neck from behind. Even this hurts but it's worth it so sag into her embrace.

"Babe this is Mike", the Arab guy nods, "Jeff", the guy rolling the joint waves his hand as he licks the paper, "and Parker." A chubby Asian kid smiles and nods. "Mike dates Annie. They all go to Santa Barbara."

I shrug.

"We're in Annie's house", fills in Kym.

"Oh. Hey sorry for the ruckus."

"Oh dude that Baron guy has been a prick since 5th grade. Steroids made him psycho. It was awesome you guys took him out. Asshole wasn't even invited", laughs Mike.

"Oh yeah? What happened?"

"Melo hit him with a shovel", says Dev joining the circle as Jeff lights the joint.

"That guy was huge, I needed something", grinned Melo. "Barely slowed him down. Guy's a beast. But Jason dropped him. One shot and he went down."

"Good thing", says Jason joining the circle. "This chick told me in high school he lifted like 500 lbs. You do not want to be on the receiving end of that. His fists are like canned hams."

So we smoked. Kym and I were antsy. I could feel Dev and Melo were getting there too but Jason looked zen because he was holding and probably enjoying.

I learned from our new friends that Baron started problems by stealing a keg. His crew just grabbed one during the band and left. Then they came back for another one later. One of Annie's friend's called them out on it and Baron shoved him. In doing so he bumped Kym who got into it. Luckily, someone called the cops.

I looked at Mike, Jeff and Parker. Santa Barbara imparted a laid back beach culture vibe on them. Like even though it was winter Mike and Parker wore rubber slippers instead of shoes. Most of the guys at the party had short hair and backwards baseball caps. These three had shaggy hair like they were debating to grow it out. They looked as out of place at this party as we did.

"Jase", said Kym, "bump me some love."

I watch their faces. Marijuana and drinking is common in their circle. But I sense Kym was opening a gate these three never saw. Alert and interested, the Nintendo was forgotten.

"Uhm Kym...", says Dev looking at Mike.

"Don't worry Dev. Annie's passed out" says Mike. "What? Coke?"

"Naw" says Kym. "Coke AND heroin."

"Whoa!" says Parker looking at Jeff. But Mike sits up.

"Is that like opium?"

"Not really", says Melo. "More intense. Opium is closer to morphine."

"What...?" purrs Kym suggestively. "You boys want to try? I am exactly what your mothers warned you about..."

"Kym" sighs Jason. "This is not exactly the best-"

"Hey it's cool!", says Mike. "I'll totally pay if thats what you mean. I just want to try..."

"Mike!" says Parker, "Dude it's heroin. HER-O-IN!"

"I'll buy some too", says Jeff.

"Boys!" smiles Jason rubbing his forehead. "Look it's your party, you guys smoked us out and you let us chill here when the cops came. I'll get you high if you want."

"I want", says Mike sitting up.

Kym feeds herself first. Then I take a bump, Melo, Jason and Dev follow. We sit there in the unknown house eyes wide open and floating into the other world like a leaf spiraling towards a pond. I nod and feel myself sinking into still waters. I watch Kym offer a tiny bump to them. She rolls the straw across the glass table to Mike. I stare at the skull painted on her fingernail.

Jason stares into Kym's unwavering eyes, shakes his head and silently mouths: Devil's daughter.
