Phone won't turn on past the "galaxy s5" opening screen galaxys5

Background: I've had my S5 for about 3 months now. I got it to have on my 6 month trip through asia (halfway done, currently in china). Occasionally it would feel really warm and warn about over heating. When this happens the touchscreen acts funny and slow. I usually remove the battery or place it in a refrigerator for a few minutes and then it's fine. This would happen maybe once a week, my last galaxy phone also did this but I've had it for 2 years with no real issue.

Yesterday it started doing this again. So I took the battery out and let it sit. Now it won't turn back on. I hold the power button and it goes to the welcome screen, then it turns off and starts again. This will keep happening until I noticed it was getting warm again and I would take the battery out. There seems to be no other way of stopping this cycle. I am able to hold down the button to get to the reset options. Turn it on normaly, factory reset, and safe mode. I've tried normal and safe mode but they don't seem to do anything, just back into the loop. I'm afraid to press factory reset yet.

Anyone have any ideas? Had a similar problem? I'm in the middle of China and have a lot of important stuff on my phone

Looking for mods, a new subreddit, an idea for a new rule about asking questions. galaxys5

Looking for new mods

Right now, I'm the only active mod on this subreddit. Unfortunately I don't have the time to keep track of everything all the time. So I would like to ask people from the community if anyone would be interested in moderating /r/galaxys5.

What you'd do:

  • Check the unmoderated queue and the modqueue at least once a day. Approve post and remove spam, rule breaking posts and offensive comments.

  • Check /r/galaxys5/comments on occasion to see if there are any slap fights etc.

Requirements:

  • Your account is older than a month

  • You can install third party tools (not a must, but it's highly recommended)

(no mod experience needed, I'll introduce you to everything you need to know).

A new subreddit

  • Some mods from other Samsung related subreddits and myself have started a new subreddit: /r/samsungmobile. It's still very small, but we hope it'll be at least a nice alternative to /r/samsung for anyone who wants to join. A place where there is no discussion of refrigerators.

Suggestion: A new rule regarding questions

  • Requests for tech support should be a full and clear question. If you have a screenshot of the problem you have to deal with, post it in a self post and go into more detail in the submission text. For example state what app you are having trouble with.

The reason I want to introduce this rules are posts like this one. Also AutoMod tags them as pictures.

Would it be okay to introduce and enforce this rule?

If you've read thus far, thank you. Consider this a feedback thread (this is how these kinds of things usually go anyway), leave questions, requests, suggestions and complaints in the comments.
