Just ordered a 24 Bottle Koldfront for my wineador build, pretty stoked about the price on that one.
Looking to build custom drawers myself to save some money... that I will inevitably still spend (on cigars). Has anyone made shelves using old cigar boxes? If not where is the best place to buy SC online?
I just had my first "that's not mold, that's plume" from a tobacco shop manager, and since you guys seem to have seen it all I'm going to ask what you would do.
After the initial rebuttal, I pointed out that plume doesn't look like mold on bread and that he may want to look into the plume vs mold debate. I exit the humidor as he is still inspecting the moldy sticks and purchase a few that appeared not to be affected that I now have in a travel humidor, just waiting for them to get some awesome plumage.
So now that one of the employees (whose attention I got first, and seemed to agree it looked like mold that you see on cheddar cheese that's been in your refrigerator for 2 years) and the manager know, what should I do? The selection in the shop is good and I'd like to keep buying there so I want them to fix the problem.
The shop employee said to contact HQ of the chain to bring it to a regional manager's attention, which I plan on doing. From a few other situations I've seen posted on here, it's been suggested I contact manufacturers like DE to get their support. For those of you that have, did you get any response and was the mold quarantined?

Having not smoked for the past 5 years or so I recently decided that instead of just wishing I could enjoy the occasional cigar, I'd actually do it. Loving it so far!
I'm an expat in Thailand, which means that cigar prices are pretty insane (similar to Canada from what I gather) so I've been ordering online, which means I've had to order a few number at a time to make it worth the shipping (and unfortunately so far, import tax) costs. Well, that's what I tell myself anyway.
Here it's either very hot and humid or very hot, raining and humid. That pretty much sums up the seasons.
Finally I got my Boveda packs (69s, I figured keeping the humidity down instead of up will be my issue), bought an air tight Tupperware and I'm ready to go.
Only issue - too hot!
Looking around for wine coolers, the options (like many Western orientated things) are far and few between and expensive. The cheapest one so far at around $250 for an 8 bottle one.
Suffice to say, my credit card has had enough this month and needs a rest! CAD, you know how it is...
It just so happens I have a refrigerator that's perfectly good, only a couple of years old but kind of cheap and can't keep up with the heat here, so I'm confident I can get it to 70F pretty easily. It's a normal small family fridge/freezer combo.
So, long story short, is it ok to put the Tupperdore in there? (the refrigerator part, not the freezer!).
It's either that or in my wardrobe which means going between around 70 at night (with aircon on) to 1,000 in the day (ok maybe a little less, but Satan would feel toasty).
TL:DR got a tupperdore and Boveda. Freakin' hot and humid all the time. Wine cooler costs more than remaining credit limit. Use cheap old refrigerator?

Hello /r/cigars! I recently returned from Cuba and brought back some nice cigars from the tobacco farm. They are wrapped in a palm leaf and I was told that they are fine if they are kept in that leaf in the vegetable crisper in the refrigerator. After reading a few articles online, it looks like that may not be the best advice.
I do not have a humidor so I would appreciate any advice on how to properly store them if the crisper is in fact not a good idea.

Hey r/cigars, my SO and I will be leaving the country for two weeks and I'm concerned because I have my stash in a desktop humidor. We live in a hot climate and will probably be turning off the AC to save money while away.
Are there any risks to putting my glass top humidor on the top shelf of the freezer or refrigerator? Will the glass collect condensation? Or do you think they will be okay in the bottom of a dark closet?

So I came home today to find the latest edition of CI Magazine in the mail box, you know the magazine I mean, that one that follows you around from address to address never leaving you alone? Well, they offer in this one $49 spent, gets you a free Ashcroft Humidor. "ooooo" I hear you all say. Well, I found a combo deal with THE SAME humidor and 10 or so not too mad cigars for $49.99, which qualifies for the free humidor. So, 2 humidors, 10 cigars and all for $49.99. I know that even seasoned, these are probably awful humidors so I was only going to use them for my every days smokes, then, I found this. Yeah, yeah I know its double the price, but I know people rave about how great a wineador is and my budget, while not huge, would probably cover that. Would it be suitable? To all those wineador users out there, would its dimensions fit drawers? and if so, what kind?
I guess what I am asking, is if I am looking for a new storage method, would I be making a wise investment here, and what would I need to get, in order to convert this to a wineador?

I live in Cali and the weather is starting to get warm and will get hotter soon enough. I have a fridge laying around the house and wanted to know if it's a good idea to store my cigars in. I was thinking of storing my tupperdors in the fridge to keep them at a much cooler temperature. I was told that it wasn't a good idea to store them in since fridges tend to keep humidity out but would there be a problem if I just store my tupperdor with bovedas inside of them and just keep them inside the fridge?

Went into my local liquor store today. I know the owner and one of the dudes that works there. Anyway, the dude shoots me a message saying they have a limited supply of michters 10 year straight rye...if i want it, he will put it aside for me.
So I go to grab the bottle and say "I can't wait to pair this with a nice cigar". The owner, Mike says, "follow me". We head into the basement and he has a refrigerator sized humidor down there! He opens it up and it's chock full of vintage cigars and starts handing me a few.
All I can think is Awesome!!! Free smokes! Even handed me a vintage Partagas box and some documentation about when the 2 Partagas were rolled .

First off I just want to apologize to u/Tommydphoto. This should have been done a very long time ago. Work and life got in the way a bit, but I still shouldn't have put this off for so long.
I also want to say WOW!!!!! I am blown away by this. I haven't had any of these cigars before and am very excited to try them out. I am honored to have been paired with such a great guy and receive such awesome sticks.

Story Time
So Tom and I matched up sometime in December. I remember how excited I was to join the community and couldn't wait to start the trade. What I had failed to realize was how hard it was to find even decent cigars in South Korea. After not being able to find a shop I just decide it would be better to just order a few online and have them shipped. I also didn't think about how long shipping can take. By the time Tom sends his cigars to me I had already started a month long training mission and was told I would not be able to receive mail. I was totally bummed about this because I was hoping to at least have one during some off time. After about a week or so I found out my cigars have finally arrived, and we have a mail room set up. With everything going on I figure I may as well keep them safe in the mail room so they don't get destroyed and I didn't have any of my smoking supplies, and I wanted to enjoy them as they should be. Around week 2 of us being out there, our mail room had to be moved into a meat refrigerator due to lack of space. Once I heard the news I decided to pick them up and keep them in my footlocker because I wasn't sure about leaving my precious cigars in a freezer for 3 more weeks. The entire time I was out there all I was thinking about was getting back to my room, taking a shower and change into my sweats, and then smoke. I was very tempted to just smoke one out there, but I knew they would be much more enjoyable when I was relaxed and had all the time in the world. I have to say it was very worth it. I had the Excalibur the other night and it was amazing - incredibly smooth. I can't wait to enjoy all of the others too!!

Currently I'm trying the following method for cigar storage:
24 hours in the refrigerator
72 hours in the freezer
24 hours in the refrigerator
24 hours in a preliminary humidor
1 week in the primary humidor
Once this process is complete, the cigar(s) will be ready to smoke. The reasoning behind the fridge is to not have a dramatic change in temperature. The reasoning behind the preliminary humidor is to eliminate condensation and prevent a humidity spike in the primary humidor.
My hope is that the freezing process will reduce the risk of beetles and mold. Is this a good method?
I got a CWC-1600 on Craigslist for $30 recently. Just snagged a CWC-900 for $35, not too bad for a small collection. I have one question tho, the CWC-1600 has a refrigerator style seal on the door, so I'm not worried about that one other than the noisy fan I have to tear out and replace. The CWC-900 I just picked up doesn't quite seal the same way. There's a recessed gasket in the door, and a magnet that holds the door shut tight. Should I just play it safe and store tupperadors inside of it? It's really deep, so I can fit the giant Rubbermaid one I bought for storing whole boxes in fairly easily.
Hello everyone, I know it's not newbie Friday but I have a problem. I'm a relatively new smoker and have had all my sticks in a humidor and a tupperdor during the winter months. Well I was just looked at my stores and noted that my temperatures are all 74-76. The AC has been running and I've put them in the coolest spots in my apartment but to no avail! I ordered a newair 100 but in the meantime, can I store my sticks in an airtight container in the refrigerator? Thanks for the help!
I don't think this qualifies as a knowledge drop especially as I stole this information from a post on FOH. After reading that post I would have to say I agree. Now, I understand that there may be other issues with compressor based cooling such as noise and short cycling at high temps especially when converting a standard refrigerator to cigar storage with temps we tend to run but I am curious as to everyone else's thoughts. Here is the info I stole from someone much smarter than I.
In order to remove heat, you need a means by which to transfer it. The most common means is to introduce something cold and move the air past it. How well it works will be determined by the design, the heat differential between the "cold plate" and the ambient air, and the dwell time, the rate that you move the air past the cold plate.
The evaporation coil of a plasma or compressor type cooler is one type of cold plate. The heat sink of a TE cooler is a cold plate. So I have to ask (rhetorically) how does passing air and water know the difference? The answer is this... It doesn't!!!
The TE cooler humidor myth is just that... a myth! If we look at a typical ambient/dew point differential of say 15˚F and you lower the temp of the TE cooler to that point or below, you are going to get condensation on it. Those are the facts of the matter, it is that plain and that simple.
