Multiple false awakenings prompted by my reality checks. Really weird experience. LucidDreaming

I've been able to lucid dream since I was really young. I think it all began when I started to get horrific nightmares as a kid (to the point that I was terrified to even fall asleep) but with practice, I was able to recognize within the nightmare that I was dreaming, and literally will myself to wake up. From there, instead of screaming at myself to wake up within the dream, I was able to use that moment of realization to begin to twist the dream to my own design. It started with making the monster/killer/horrible situation disappear, but then I was eventually able to craft an entire new dream with new characters, etc. I've had some really cool experiences with this.

However, I had a really strange experience a couple of days ago and was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar. I had come to a point within a dream that I suspected I was dreaming, so I used one of my reality checks, which was seeing if I could start flying by running and jumping into the air. In the dream, I immediately started flying. I lost control of the dream pretty quickly however and "woke up" in my bed a couple of minutes later. I proceeded to get up and go about my normal routine. It was so convincingly vivid and nothing at all felt strange, until I sat down with my husband in our dining room for breakfast and a bullet hole suddenly appeared on his forehead while he wore a really creepy/unnatural smile on his face in a frozen state. I used another one of my reality checks, slapping myself on the arm to see if it hurt, and again realized that I was dreaming. I screamed at myself to wake up.

So, again, I woke up in my bed, thought about how weird the false awakening was, and started morning ritual, only for everything in the dream to suddenly appear black and white. Cue the reality check. This repeated at least TEN TIMES!! There was always some kind of weird and different indicator that I had not truly woken up yet, like opening my refrigerator and finding that it was entirely filled with maggots, getting a phone call from my boss that I had been fired for being late even though I wasn't, feeling this constant presence of something evil, etc. By the time I had woken up for real I was seriously questioning reality and terrified that something scary and weird was just around the corner!

I've never had so many false awakenings in a row, and wanted to see if anyone else has had something like this happen. It was so weird but kind of cool at the same time!

Goats and Just Dance Zombies? LucidDreaming

I remember this lucid dream vividly. The first feeling I had as soon as I got into this nightmare was the overall intense feeling of wanting to leave. Fear practically consumed me throughout the entire thing but, sadly, I did not wake up until the end.

The dream started with me waking up in a bed. I was in a room with with pressing white walls. The bed practically took up the space of the whole room. I got up and walked out into a very narrow hallway. It seemed like a normal house. I walked right into a living room and to my right was a door that turned out to be the kitchen. In the kitchen there was a refrigerator in the far right corner beside that to the left was two windows completely covered in white sheets. In the middle of the windows was a rifle. I went up to the windows, peaked out and saw a zombie walk by. This is when I panicked. I stepped back from the window quickly and ran out the door. I went back down the hallway but, was stopped by the site of a white goat. The goat was normal seemed normal at first but, then it started to speak. “You seem scared, haha, I find that funny, hahahaha,” the goat started laughing maniacally, “you know you better run,” than his eyes turned a blowing dark crimson, and it said in a more dark less humanly tone, “the devil’s gonna get you.” I ran back into the kitchen to grab the rifle but, as soon as I got in I noticed that walls we’re gone replaced with this white void. The only parts left were the was a section of the wall with the two windows on it and the wall to my immediate right and the wall that had the refrigerator next to it. I ran to the rifle but, as soon as I got to it the thing disappeared. I turned around to run back and saw the inscription “Were watching you,” written in blood. I ran through the door into the kitchen and slammed it shut. The goat was still there chuckling. This is when my fight or flight mode kicked in and of the two options I chose fight. I ran towards the goat and bit him in his neck. My teeth bore down until I felt the bone. Then I carried the goat into the bedroom. Where once there were walls there now there were windows. Big windows. The surrounded the whole room. Written on them were things like “we’re watching you,” and “always watching.” I ran into a bathroom on my immediate left goat in arms. I than noticed another goat in my second living room. Somehow I was able to stare out of the crack between door and doorframe, through the hallway and into the outside where I saw the goat. The goat in my arms started calling it, saying “Hey! I’m here! Bring the Army! Tell the others.” I was stunned for a moment but, decided I needed to shut this goat up. I bought him again harder trying to stop his breathing. This time I could taste the metallic blood. I ripped at him until he wasn’t able to yell. His final words he expressed to me was “ Their coming, hehe, they’ll avenge me,” and with that the goat died in my arms. I dropped it to the ground. As soon as the goat hit the ground I realized it was a dream, or rather, nightmare. I ran out to the bathroom, out of the bedroom into the second living room and I looked over on the TV and saw a wii and on the huge flat screen it displayed ‘Just Dance’ Zombie. I and ran back to the kitchen. I saw the rifle again, grabbed it and stuck the barrel in my mouth. I than walked out into the hallway rifle in hand barrel in mouth. I walked slowly through the hallway into my second living room. I saw little red creatures and tall black shadows running towards me. I pulled the trigger. It didn’t fire. I pulled it again and again and again. I than heard an all too familiar voice. “You don’t think I’d let you get away that easily.” I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was a man in a suite wearing the white goat’s head. I couldn’t move I was so shocked. He pushed me down, and I woke up. I don’t know what it all means or why the hell Just Dance Zombie for the Wii was in a dream like this. Alls I know is that I don’t want to Just Dance.

Here is the frustrating part... LucidDreaming

So i'm dreaming about running through a parking deck and come upon a car with no hood covering the engine and a skeleton is trying to climb out of the engine area, but his pelvic bone is caught. I say to my self "how is this possible", he has no muscles to actually move the bones. i turn through a door and into a mall where i'm being hunted. I acquire a pistol and shoot on of my assailants in the face three times point blank...no damage..."how is this possible" I ask? He responds that he has a bullet proof vest on and I say "of course" he complements me on the choice of my pistol and we sit down and have a lengthy conversation about gaming. I get up to go to the refrigerator for a drink. I look in and see a full container of lemon / lime kool aid...wait a minute...I made grape kool aid 2 days ago because I was out of lemon / lime...I must be dreaming and become lucid. Scumbag Brain.

Just had a lucid dream and it was amazing! LucidDreaming

I have been interested in lucid dreaming for a long time. I´ve always had start with lucid dreaming but for some reason y always give up. I´ve had a few before, but nothing as clear and real as the one last night. Last night was the second one of attempting lucid dreaming again, after months of not even thinking about it.

I dreamed i was standing in a very important avenue of my city. I was speaking to my mom on the phone. It was the middle of the night. I was trying to explain my mom where i was, and i use a restaurant in front of me as a reference. It was closed. Suddenly i though: Wait a second.... there is no a restaurant like this one on this avenue. I inmidiately knew it. I was dreaming. Wow! Everything just became clearer and sharp. I could feel the cold breeze runnning down the street while i was crossing it to arrive to the other side. My level of lucidity, though it was very high, wasnt at its top, because i remember telling my mom through the phone: Mom, im sorry i have to end the call, ¡im in a lucid dream!. I remember trying to read the name of some streets. I could read the name perfectly, i just dont remember now. The only thing that happened was that the names of stuff and adds, even if they were very clear and readable, after i looked away and looked back they had changed. I was trying to explore and wasnt trying to control anypart of my dream. I entered a convenince store and saw a woman standing there opening the door of a refrigerator to grab a soda or something. She had black hair and a white dress. I walk into the store and remembered a stabilization technique: to pay attention to my hands. I looked at them intendly and then: like an act of magic... zoom! Instant focus! I could see my fingerprints perfectly. I stoped looking at my hands and saw around me. I was amazed by how amazing and realistic everything looked like.... I was thinking very clearly too. I then saw a woman outside that looked a lot like Caitlyn Jenner. I went outside and i though: Lets do something that i would never do in real life: start arguing with her. I got closed to her and she said: "Excuse me... Can i pay here using this card?" Maybe she thought i worked there. I said: Yes you can. She said: i dont believe you. I yelled: Yes you can! Now shut up! I thought she would be scared and leave, but she got closer to me and said again: "I dont believe you". I yelled again and we argued for a few seconds. I realized that doing that was making my lucidity go away so i wanted to stop but she grabbed me and continue arguing. I then woke up. That final part of my dream made me feel bad. But then the fact hit me like a brick on my face. I just had a super real and vivid lucid dream!

Tell me guys, what do you think? Do you have some experience like this? Btw: I am new to reddit, this is my first post.... Sorry if i did or said something that i shouldnt....

Thank you!

Passive Lucidity LucidDreaming

I had a dream about Nineteen Eighty-Four Last night, most likely since I'm in the middle of reading it. But one thing I noticed was that I was passively lucid. This is the best term I could describe how it feels. I, for instance, found a diner inside of my refrigerator, and thought to myself, "That's funny, there's not a refrigerator in my real house! I'll tell everybody when I wake up!" I always knew I was dreaming in the back of my mind, but I didn't think about it too often, mostly because the dream was so suspenseful (Thought police after me(parenthesiception: They could actually read your thoughts and I said something against the governernment) So I spent a lot of time avoiding them and trying not to get shot and such) and I had to avoid sticky situations without thinking about the bigger picture.

No real question, just an interesting phenomenon, and now that I've had a dream about the book, I really feel strange while reading it.

Interesting SP/MILD collaboration dream (kind of long) LucidDreaming

Kind of new to this thread, though I'm an experienced lucid dreamer. I mostly lurk, but have offered advice here and at r/SleepParalysis. I had an interesting episode this morning I wanted to share; but much like my only share thread at SP, I'm not sure if this falls into just one category. (Seems I'm having more of these "in between" episodes more frequently.)

As I was waking up today, my room was grey from the overcast morning. I had been dreaming that I was a witness on trial for a professor who was sexually assaulting students and I remember coming out from the dream as it cut to black (behind my eyelids), thinking to myself that was a strange plot, and then opening my eyes to a grey-lit room.

I lay there for a moment to think about my dream, to try and store it, and then figured it would be a good idea to log it into my dream journal. When I looked over to my nightstand a chill went up my spine as a blurry vision of some kind of ape was lying next to me. (Recalling the vision now gives me the chills.) I tried to scoot away to get a better view of the creature, but was unable move.

I felt frantic at first, but logic quickly took over and I thought sleep paralysis. My hand was on the pillow in front of me, so I used my go-to method of trying to wiggle a finger. It moved! I go to stretch my arm out and nothing happens. I try again, and again, again... Flapping my arm up and down and sometimes I see it fly up, but it's a blurred flash and my hand stays on the pillow.

I'm about to start freaking out because I'm in bed with what appears to be a dead ape and I cannot get out of this SP as quickly as I've been able to many times before. But again, calm and logic come to me; I'm thinking about facts sleep paralysis can last hours; I'm thinking about my own belief systems that is not an actual creature next to you, but a figment of your imagination. (When I think now that I heard myself talking to myself in third, that seems sort of odd, too.)

These things calm me down a little, but my main goal is to wake up from this. (Sleep Paralysis, for the most part, hasn't been a freaky thing for me - but on rare occasion that it is, I prefer to wake up "just in case.") At this calmer point I'm able to start deriving a plan. I think the fake ape is clearly dead or sleeping, not affecting you. You can go back to sleep and find another way out. I see my eyelids start to close and then my vision goes black.

When I reopen my eyes I am in my kitchen downstairs, but I know that I'm asleep/dreaming already. The refrigerator door is already open and the light coming from the bulb is so bright that I back up instinctively. I hear a male's voice coming from inside, asking me why I would go to his trial as a false witness.

I peer inside, only brightness that doesn't hurt my eyes, and say "I didn't. This is a dream. You're dreaming." He sounds relieved and confused. I tell him "I'm dreaming too. We just need to wake up, ok?" He mutters ok. I slam the fridge shut and BAM! I'm awake in my room. I sit up and it is indeed overcast outside.

I don't know where the trial came from, I haven't seen or read anything in the news. Nor am I in college. And the dead ape? Comments and speculations welcome.

I tried to call the "real world" for help to escape a dream. LucidDreaming

About ten years ago I experienced a dream so lucid it scared me, during and after. I definitely haven't ever forgotten about it and probably never will. I haven't achieved the lucidity of that specific dream since and I'm fairly certain I don't want to ever again.

The dream itself wasn't that interesting (to others at least). I was obsessed at the time with having a lucid dream inside an old memory from childhood. After much practice I finally fell asleep one night and "awoke" inside a dream/memory in my mind of being inside my grandmother's old house that she had when I was a toddler/young child. I was an adult in the dream, and it like I was transplanted into the memory to explore it (fun!). The house was empty except for myself, but it was set up with all the same furniture, clutter, food in the refrigerator, etc. that could have been there in my memory of it from a random day in 1989. It was all as crystal clear and "real" as reality itself. Nothing distinguished that it was a dream except for my own mind knowing that it was. Well, until I glanced at an alarm clock and it was just a bunch of glowing red, scrambled dots instead of any actual time but I knew that was to be expected. I spent a good amount of time wandering through the house. Looking at the old labels on food in the pantry and kitchen (still slightly "scrambled" or off but they still had the appropriate style for the decade overall). Going from room to room, opening drawers and dressers and closets and being nosy. After a while there was only so much I could do and I started to want to wake up or move on to another dream but neither were happening. I ran to the backside of the house and looked outside at the rest of the neighborhood. Nothing moved except for the wind. No animals. No other humans. No cars. No noise. Nothing. And I couldn't get my mind to create anything else for me. I panicked a bit and felt trapped. I wanted out. It felt too real and I was all alone in a memory in my mind where technically no one existed anymore.

I had a flip phone at the time, and I remember frantically pulling it out of my pocket to try to "call" for help. The screen read different, jumbled things every time I looked at it. The buttons' numbers and letters were constantly switching places or had a computer error/glitch look to them. So by memory of where the buttons were I dialed my boyfriend's phone number. It would just ring and ring of course until I would hang up and try again. I even attempted texting him. Typing out through the scrambled texts "HELP I'M TRAPPED IN MY DREAM! Wake me up!". I began screaming for help, and for whatever reason felt that "help" was literally above me somehow. I started to throw things at the ceiling, looking up and still yelling for help. Then my dream/memory began to feel different. I could "sense" or "feel" that my consciousness was just aware of a 3D display of this memory inside my brain. The dimensions of things began to change as I moved around. Some things began to only be 2D, disappearing into what looked like a screen of pixels once viewed from the side. I began to hit redial on my phone repeatedly until a piece of the ceiling crumbled and a black hole appeared. It was like the memory was crumbling away, like a scene from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I closed my eyes and ducked down into the fetal position and covered my head, terrified that I was losing my mind or dying. When I reopened my eyes I was lying on my side, in my bed, covered in sweat. I was so convinced at the reality of it that I called my boyfriend immediately and told him about it. I even asked if he had any missed calls or texts from me.

Several LDs last night LucidDreaming

Last lucid dream first:

Woke up my room (where I really was), heard mom taking a shower, knew immediately I was having a dream (had several before). Heard song coming from clock-cable-box which said 8:16 (around the real time), sounded like a little girl singing "Whaaaaaaat would you dooo?" I thought that was interesting. Wasn't sure that I was dreaming...felt a little tired. Started fading. Yelled "intense lucidity now!" Mom asked "what's lucidity?" I figured I'd just tell them I was sleep-walking later if I ended up not being dreaming. Rubbed hands together hard, and dream became extremely vivid. Ran into bathroom, saw myself in mirror. Looked mostly normal, except my eyes looked like they were on shrooms and the tan contrast on my arm was huge. One part of it looked like I had come back from a couple months in Florida, another part looked normal. Decided to go for a fly. Opened window, the screen disappeared. I looked up at the sky, because I heard the sky was amazing in lucid dreams. It was. There were three suns, all of them radiating the most intense light I'd ever seen. I looked down, and there was a little girl playing on a single swing. I waved to her and yelled "hi sweetie!" I remember considering whether dream characters could have semi-independent consciousness from my own. I climbed onto my roof, prepared to fly and...woke up. Probably from excitement, but this was definitely one of the longer and more vivid LDs I've had.

Earlier:

I was in my room (not sure what happened earlier, but I'm pretty sure that this was near the start of the dream), I got the sense that I might be dreaming, because things looked a bit odd. I looked at my fingers...all fingers reporting. Then I tried to put my finger through my stomach. Couldn't do it. Guess it wasn't a dream! I don't feel too bad about not realizing I was dreaming at this point, because my reality checks actually did fail. For some reason, I felt like I had low blood pressure. My heart was beating fast, I was stumbling around, wondering if I was going to faint. I went downstairs, opened the refrigerator. Saw a lot of ice cream in fridge. I thought that was odd that it was in the fridge- I figured my parents must be having a big party soon that they wanted the ice cream slightly melted for. I had never put ice cream in the fridge myself, so I stuck my finger in one of the cartons and felt it softer than ice cream usually is. I made a mental note to put ice cream in the fridge next time I wanted to eat it. I accidentally made a hole in the wrap in one of the cartons of ice cream. That's the last I remember.

Earlier

I drifted off to sleep, I remember opening my eyes and looking at my computer as I was preparing to dream. I did this for awhile until I realized that this was silly- of course I was already dreaming. I decided to "get up" from my body into my dream body. I did- felt like I was swimming around the room, which was dark. Suddenly felt incredibly tired, and dream started fading. Yelled "intense lucidity now!" Felt more tired, my sheets began wrapping around me. Intense...lucidity...now. Intense......lucidity......now.......ah, maybe just a little nap. Dream over. I'm guessing I transitioned out of REM sleep into deep sleep at this point. Looking back on it, I'm fascinated by the fact that it felt the same as "falling asleep." I was falling asleep, in a sense, just into a deeper level.
