Need some help figuring out how to rearrange kitchen DesignMyRoom

I bought my house in May. I've been doing most of the work outside, but I'd like to finally start planning what to do with my Kitchen, Dining Room, and Living Room.

It's a fairly small house, so I'm thinking the best would be to knock out the walls separating each of these rooms. Seems like as open as possible would be best here. However, since the old owners bought such a giant refrigerator, I'm not sure how best to do this.

I'm thinking of taking down the walls, and using two supports to hold up a beam going across to support the ceiling. Especially since, the ceiling is already drooping. With that support, I'm thinking of some sort of island to replace where the fridge is, that way I can have some amount of working space. I pretty much only have the small area next to the fridge for me to work.

Anybody have experience opening up an area like this? I've never done anything like this before, so any thoughts would be nice. I'm not entirely sure where to even start on this project.

Help me remodel my kitchen DesignMyRoom

So my wife and I want to redo our kitchen this coming year. We love our little house, but the kitchen is TINY, and when we moved in earlier this year, we promised each other that redoing the kitchen (and enlarging it if possible) was going to be high on our list of projects.

Mostly what I need help with is imagining where everything is going to GO once we create all this space. Here are some pics of the space: http://ift.tt/2heGRua

So, basically we want to knock out that wall where the stove/refrigerator is and expand the kitchen into what's now a formal dining room that never gets used. The wish list is for an island with built-in range/oven to live in that area where the wall is now, and maybe an eat-in nook or table or something so we can still have some surface area to sit down at if we choose.

Is there enough space for that in there? I don't want to expand the cramped kitchen and then crowd up all the space that results from that, ya know? Where the heck is the fridge gonna go? Can we get a little more countertop space out of this?

Left wall: 10.5'
Right wall: 12' (that's just until you run into the "living area" space in the foreground of pic 4)
Bottom right wall: 8.75'

Need help with a kitchen remodel DesignMyRoom

Hello – My wife and I are working on updating our house (purchased in April) and are currently stuck in the kitchen. We’ve started refinishing the cabinets (sanding/painting), ripped out the original (cracked and failing) tile floor, but we need to get our final footprint nailed down before we do much else. There is a lot of space to work with, but we haven’t found a plan that felt 100% right for the space.

The main issues we would like to address: Cook-top – I am not a big fan of the downdraft ventilation and also the constricted space on the right side burners due to the cabinet for the wall oven. Optimally, we would ditch the downdraft ventilation and go with a hood. The question is if we leave it in the current spot and deal with the tight access on the right side, or if we 1) move the cooktop to the new island and put in a hood over the island or 2) take out the wall oven/microwave area, add a hood and put in a range (oven/stove) with a small segment of counter between the range and the refrigerator.
Island – We would like to build a large rectangle island (all one height) for additional storage and also to possibly incorporate the eating area and get rid of the table in the “eating” portion of the room. Any “must have” ideas you would suggest for a new island? Any alternative shapes you would suggest? 2 islands vs. 1 due to the size of the space? The flooring in the kitchen is currently just subfloor, so it would be the time to run conduit/high voltage power for a cooktop/water and drain for prep sink/etc. although that also means $$$$.

We are located in the USA. We do a lot of DIY.

Appliances with Copper Sink? DesignMyRoom

I'm in love with the idea of a copper apron sink (something like this? )

But, I've never seen a copper refrigerator, oven, or dishwasher (If they exist, I'm sure they're also crazy expensive). So, what do people normally do? I would imagine that stainless steel would clash.

New apartment: no furniture, no painting, no nothing. Need help! DesignMyRoom

Hi /DesignMyRoom,

I just moved to a new apartment (living alone for the first time), and I have no idea how I'm going to design my apartment.

I made a semi-Blueprint using Planner5D from this subreddit sidebar, and tried to make it look like the real thing as much as possible. Click here to view the blueprint in 2D or 3D!

So, a few considerations before we start:

• All walls are painted white, as it is a common thing in Brazil when you rent a new apartment. I can do whatever I want in terms of painting, I just can't destroy a wall or something like that.

• In my bedroom, the only furniture I've got so far is my bed and my wardrobe.

• My living room is pretty small and currently empty.

• The only thing I've got so far in my kitchen is the sink. Still no refrigerator, no oven, nothing. The only restriction for the kitchen is that the oven must be to the left of the sink (close to the hallway), that's where the gas pipe is.

• I'm not sure if there is enough space in the laundry room for a washing machine, but I'll look into it.

• I have already bought an 48" TV (Samsung 48J6500) that is about to be shipped, but I have no idea where to put it: in my bedroom or my living room?

Suggest any - i mean ANY furniture you'd guys think would be fit for my apartment. I'll try to look for the closest model I can find here in Brazil if I like the idea.

Hello!

My fiancé and I just bought our first home a couple of months ago. We are extremely excited to start renovating it and making it our own! While we have a lot of ideas for the rest of our home and color schemes in mind… we are truly stuck on how to make our kitchen bigger and more accommodating to our lifestyle and needs. The problem lies with the awkward bump-out our kitchen is situated it.

Quick explanation of the kitchen layout: (I will edit this post with measurements/layout as soon as I am able to. I just didn't want to wait to post once I found this subreddit!)

• Our kitchen is completely situated in a bump-out, with the dining room to the left and a breakfast nook to the right. The dining room and breakfast nook walls are therefore farther "in" than the kitchen, since the kitchen wall is pushed out.
• There is a non-loadbearing wall that houses our fridge and pantry. This wall separates the kitchen from the living room.
• The door to our deck is in the breakfast nook.

So, our wants and needs:

• We want to knock out the wall that houses our pantry and refrigerator. Instead of this huge impeding wall, we will build an island. This will give us the width we need.
• We want to expand our kitchen into the breakfast nook (since we don't need a dining room AND a breakfast nook when they are literally a room away from each other) to give us the length we need.
• We obviously need a place to put our kitchen and build a brand new pantry.
• We obviously want it to be beautiful with plenty of space to walk, cook, and bake. And need to be able to get into the kitchen and out to the deck easily.
• We want this to be a DIY project (we have a relative who worked in construction and can help us a lot once we know what we want) and we DON’T want to re-do the entire kitchen. We also don't want to spend a fortune, but we don't have a budget set yet.

I really hope you guys are able to help, since Google, Pinterest, and Houzz have done nothing for us!

Help me plan my 2 bed / 2 bath! DesignMyRoom

We are contemplating purchasing an apartment but the lay out seems inflexible - as if everything needs to stay where it is already built. We don't like how the refrigerator is off to the side of the kitchen nor the existing location of the closets in either bedroom.

Need help choosing wall and cabinet colors. DesignMyRoom

My kitchen isn't getting a full remodel anytime soon. To spruce it up, I want to paint the base cabinets and the wall behind the refrigerator.

I am getting a stainless steel refrigerator and a white cart to put next to the fridge. The pocket door has not been painted yet, so any suggestions on that would be nice, too. The plan is to paint it white for now.

The other walls will be white, and the cabinets above the base cabinets will also be white. (The pantry doors will be white, too)

So in a white kitchen with hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances, what color can the base cabinets and an accent wall be? Or should the base cabinets be left alone? Help, please! :)

Need help with designing a kitchen DesignMyRoom

Hey folks,

we just moved into a new apartment and are having a really hard time to plan our kitchen. We have some specific desires/plans that are difficult to implement with the layout of the room, which you can find here: http://ift.tt/1GbU9JT

We basically would like to keep the left side of the room free for a small table and 2 chairs + a small cupboard we already have.

On the right side, the sink, the oven, dish washer, refrigerator and a small cabinet (for forks, knives, etc..) have to fit. How would you shape the countertop? We were thinking about a straight line, but then there is no room for the cabinet anymore.

Dear Reddit,

First, thank you for taking the time to read my post! My wife and I just purchased our first home here in Michigan, and we love the house. We close in two weeks, and we'd both like to have some solid ideas of how we will lay out our space. One of the things that has stumped us so far is where to find eating space. I've been thinking of adding either a small table to the kitchen, or possibly sectioning off some space in our living room, but I'm at a loss for good ideas in either case. First, the kitchen. Dimensions are roughly 60"x168" (if measuring from the front of the cabinets to the opposite wall). It's small and narrow, which doesn't leave much room for an eat-in option. Right now, the fridge is positioned on the eastern wall, an juts out past the wall into the room. One idea I had (and you can see in the SketchUp model photo of the kitchen) is purchasing a slim profile refrigerator, and replacing the tall, narrow cabinet. Then we would have the space at the back of the kitchen to either add counters/cabinets, or possibly some eating space?

Next, the living room. Dimensions are roughly 130"x136". It's modest in size as well, but it has enough room for a full-size couch and arm chair. Right now, we were thinking of keeping this with a similar layout you see in the photos, but it would be great if there were some creative ways to get some dining space in here as well?

Last, I'll mention budget. We don't have a ton of liquid cash, but would likely be able to make modest modifications/purchases (~$10k) if it got us a reasonable dining space.

Again, thank you for taking the time to make it this far through the post! Any insight/ideas you can provide are greatly appreciated. If you need additional information, I'll gladly provide it if possible.

Need help with kitchen seating area DesignMyRoom

I'm planning a gut-renovation of my kitchen and would like to add a seating area for 4 people next to the window (at the bottom of this floorplan: http://ift.tt/1pweKqr)

I'm having some trouble come up with the best layout for the seating area. Some options are 1) round or square table with an "L" shaped bench built in along the wall; 2) full built-in booth seating; 3) table with no built ins. I'd like to have seating room for 4 people, although right now it's just my wife and I (until we have a kid). I'd also like to have a second wall of cabinets opposite the appliance wall but am having some trouble figuring out the best dimensions, and whether to do just bottom cabinets, or top cabinets too.

The appliances are going to be a 30" range (with combination microwave and hood above), a 36" wide counter-depth refrigerator, 24" dishwasher and a 24" sink. All of these appliances unfortunately are set against the same wall now, which is a little cluttered, but I don't really want to move any gas or electrical lines so the appliances are probably going to stay near their current locations. I also am not eager to move walls, since it would add expense, and we need the adjacent spaces for other things We also are putting in a vertical stacked washer-dryer (in the area labelled PTR).

I'd really appreciate some advice!
