Two years into an ME degree. Sister asked me what we do, and I realized I have no fucking idea. Can someone with job/internship experience or who just isn't an idiot like me tell me what we do? EngineeringStudents

I suppose in a broad sense, I know that part of what mechanical engineers do is design...things. Car parts, rocket nozzles, refrigerators, industrial fans, what have you.

But that's all I know. I mean if I was looking for a job right now, what position titles would I even be looking for? What is the day to day like on a team of engineers designing something? After your boss tells you what to make, what next? What aspects are their to ME outside of design?

I just have no conception of what things are like in the job place. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
