Living Large [Summertime Challenge] shortscarystories

I hummed to myself as I walked down the stairs and glided towards the kitchen. The low thrum of "Sweet Home Alabama" made my lips tickle. I couldn't help but grin. It was such a glorious Summer morning and I felt UH-MAY-ZING. The birds were chirping and I could hear the buzz of a lawnmower earning it's share of gasoline as it cut down an unruly lawn. I reached the kitchen and made my way to the cabinets to see what I could rustle up. With some work I managed to dig up some shredded cheese and a lone can of chili long-forgotten. From the refrigerator I pulled out an open pack of juicy footlong hotdogs and their bread counterparts. With a little help from the stove I whipped up a few good chili dogs. They weren't authentic as I would have liked them but a man can only do so much with what he's given.

The chair I picked gently protested with a small squeal as I sat down. Oh lawd what a wonderful meal. I couldn't help but smack my lips as I ate. The meat, cheese and bread were such rare commodities during the Winter. I hadn't even finished before I heard the knock. Nosy neighbors more than possible. "Now aren't those the worst?", I thought to myself. I quickly got up and took the leftover food with me as I waltzed towards the back yard door near the kitchen.

My foot caught on to something. Oh, it was tiny Timmy. Timmy. I cracked another grin. What a name! I had no idea who this kid I had nearly tripped over was called, but he sure as Hell was dead as a doorknob. I had completely forgotten I had strangled him when I crept in last night. The entire family was dead. Poor saps were more worried about Family Feud over locking the door leading to the back yard. I made sure to creep over Timmy as to not wake him up. I stuffed my face with what food was left and tossed the plate on to the Missus' garden as I made my way to the fence.

I couldn't help notice my reflection on the grill whilst walking. I could really need a shave. Maybe the next house wouldn't have such a nosy neighbor to ruin my morning. I gripped on to the fence and heaved myself over. Before anyone knew what was wrong, I would be gone and I'd just be humming along looking for another house to live in for a spell. After all, it was easy living large in the Summertime.
