I've considered caulking a cleat to the side and hanging off that, but my concern is that any caulking that will come off easily later won't be strong enough to keep 20-30 lb. secured with confidence.
My next idea is drilling carefully just through the outer metal and riveting metal brackets to the sides. If I ever remove it I'll fill with epoxy and paint.
Any concerns about drilling? Anything that might be damaged aside from the metal?
