refrigerant recharge Appliances

I have a 10+ year old Frigidaire side by side that I have converted into a kegerator. It quit cooling completely. I've opened it all up and it's all pretty clean and the fans are both working. Furthermore, when I run it, I can feel the hose coming from the compressor and it isn't cold at all. I called a appliance repairman about it and he said it has likely lost the coolant and since it is newer than 1993 that the refrigerant is likely "R144a" and that when it leaks it pulls moisture into the system. He said he could recharge it for ~$200 but that may or may not make it work since if there's moisture in the system it could coagulate the oil in the refrigerant and still not cycle through the system.
Any advice? The work I've done to the refrigerator means that it's worth it to me to fix if it's just $200, but if it's not likely to work, then I'd be better off using that for another refrigerator to re-build into another kegerator. Pictures: http://ift.tt/1OlhQGt
