My newish Samsung refrigerator ran constantly. I would say 20 hours a day if I had to guess. I had the freezer set at -2F as recommended by a sticker in the fridge. After some googling I found this site that recommended between 0 and +5. I set mine to +2 and the fridge has been quiet since. It seems-2 is just not realistic and obtainable but +2 is no sweat. I feel like I've added years to the life of my fridge and it's compressor.
Disclaimer: I am not too certain how this change will affect the longevity of frozen foods but I can't imagine any or it's minuscule.
