While I was growing up, I had a daily routine when I got home from school. This is pretty typical. However, mine was completely artificial. From when I got home from school until I put my head on pillow, everything I did was planned out according to the printout of an excel spreadsheet that hung on our refrigerator, right down to 15 minute intervals.
I don't remember exactly what my schedule was, but I remember it included preparing for and cleaning up after dinner, "family time" (always the most enjoyable part of my evening /s), time to work on homework, a set amount of time to shower and use the bathroom before going to bed, and a firmly enforced bedtime. This lasted until I was 18 and threw a fuss, when I told I could stay up later if I still needed to work on homework. On the bright side, I guess I've learned decent time management skills, because if I didn't get my homework done in the time I was allotted, it didn't get done.
I don't recall exactly when this schedule was implemented, but it think it was either in middle School or the start of high school. I hated it. Honestly the biggest change for me in college is the freedom to work on homework when I want to, and go to be when I want to, not when someone else wants me to.
Have any of you had a similar experience with getting a schedule from your NParents? How do you feel, and how have you adjusted to being able to do things on your own time?
