I know I'm going to have to silver braze, need gauges, a vacuum pump, etc, but I don't know if I'll need any sort of certifications so I can purchase refrigerant. I already have the tools.
Story time, I'm a former longtime restaurateur, and current word of mouth handyman. Prior to 1983, I was an HVAC installer, then I went to school to be a refrigeration tech. I ended up going into the restaurant business instead.
So I have a few pieces of equipment I'd like to service, a split system ice machine I'd like to offer installation on, plus do a couple of refrigerators for family.
I'm in California, and I've heard I need certifications to purchase refrigerant. Is that true? I'll use the experience and a portfolio of other stuff I've done when I go job hunting. Right now I'm just selling off stuff, but I'd like to get some refrigeration work under my belt just in case I end up going in that direction.
