Hi, guys. I've written a time or two before, but I have things to share again.
I work for a very small company, just me and the boss. Today I come in to hear my boss is subleasing our warehouse. "Great", I say, "Helps us with the overhead!". Boss is happy, all is good. We now have to move the fax machine and refrigerator to an office across the building (break room is on sublessee's side of the building.) Also, the main phone system is in the new secretary's office.
However... There's one problem. We have no idea if the other office has phone line access. We don't have a plain old telephone with us, nor do we have a line tester. And... instead of calling the Telco, the boss decides we can do it ourselves. Cue facepalming.
He has me disconnect the fax patch and traces the line back to... one of five 144-pin punch boards. To make matters worse, none of the cables are labeled at all. Thankfully, the fax was the easy part.
However, the main line, on the other hand, we couldn't trace back easily because the jack went into the wall. My boss had us spend a bit over half an hour attempting to find the phone line amongst the 820 punchboard locations. However, his good sense reigned supreme and he finally caved in, calling the telco.
Up soon, any more tales I can think of that might amuse you all.
