I have compiled a small list, please add your views and points.
1.Try to be 'light' in your consumption, be 'kanjoos' in everything except health+hygiene, staple diet and education.
2.Rent a cheap and small apartment or flat in suburbs.
3.Use public transport of bus, metro, trains and 'local' fixed rate 3 wheelers.
4.At home use efficient gadgets like LED lighting, BLDC fans (http://ift.tt/1IVysmm, http://ift.tt/1cfgiPQ ), for cooling can use wet towel hanging on window etc. Use solar cookers, use multi-utensil pressure cooker on LPG stove. Use induction cooktop for heating water instead of electric geyser or immersion rod.
5.Buy appliances from refurbished and unboxed retailers like gobol, greendust, overstock and overcart.
6.Buy entry level or low price appliances like smart phones, tablets, instead of full refrigerator use likes of http://www.mitticool.in and Godrej http://ift.tt/1IZopdW , instead of washing machine use Vimbas venus http://www.vimbas.com/ , if you have access to waste biomass use a stove like http://ift.tt/1xVm1ha . Also, use entry level Aquaguard or Tata swatch or ceramic candle water filter.
7.Depending on context some may not like these lifestyle changes but money can be saved by:
a.Not ironing clothes (use only stripped shirts as they don't look untidy without ironing)
b.Never buy software, use open source like Linux distros with applications or open source applications on Windows. Also, always use free apps on smartphones and tablets.
c.Don't eat out in restaurants or order from them. Limit intake of junk, processed and carbonated products. Good and nutritious food can be cooked at home at far lower cost.
d.Don't travel for leisure to tourist destinations or resorts or far away places. Find cool, natural and cheap hangouts in vicinity of your town or city. Form a travel club with your like minded friends.
e.If possible get rid of television connection be it DTH or cable, if necessary install DD Direct. Also, don't subscribe to streaming services. Don't use high end multimedia system, instead buy and use a combination of high quality portable speakers or headphone and multi-band radio or if you like only new songs a good FM receiver will do.
f.For internet usage, disable images and javascript on browser for reading content.
g.Don't decorate your home, use discarded items for this if compelled.
h.Don't overspend in festivals and functions, priority should be happiness of family and true friends.
i.If you are still still (As I am) and ready to mingle, seek and find a like minded person of opposite gender for marriage, and wed in court of law as registered marriage, throw small party just for closest family, friends and workplace mates. The ultimate question of frugality depends on your spouse! But till you are single, at least can try to be frugal.
