I'm wanting to build a low-tech fermentation chamber for as little money as possible, which can also be packed up and stored when not in use. (As such the "get a spare refrigerator" suggestion is off the table.) My plan now is a small space heater as a heat source and a simple fan plus an aquarium water pump for evaporative cooling. For the enclosure I'm just going to build a cardboard box around the whole thing.
Before I venture off on this build, I was wondering if anybody else has tried something similar, or if anybody has any better ideas for either a hot or cold source that would keep things cheap and simple? I should also mention that I already have a keezer that I use as a ferm chamber when I want to lager and/or have a need for other sustained extreme temps. Problem is, that's usually full of kegs and I'm trying to get away from taking the kegs offline whenever I want to control my fermentation (which are in the 62F to 78F range for 95% of my brewing and don't warrant the need for the keezer.)
