Recently I noticed that having the bright lights of my keyboard in the corner of my vision was actually kind of distracting me and subtracting from my performance in games. I turned it off and my eyes were actually significantly pleased. I would equate it to how for some reason the back of your mind is stressed, and then once the loud refrigerator motor turns off you finally notice how loud it was.
