Last night I decided to take the plunge and make sourdough starter for the first time. I just used 4 oz. AP flour and half a cup of water, and left it on top of the refrigerator. When I woke up this morning my starter looked like this:
Are the spots mold and/or potentially harmful? Should I start over, and if I do, what might have caused the mold to form?
I washed almost everything I used with antibacterial soap before starting, is it possible that that harmed something or if by missing something I added the mold?
