My refrigerator (gss20iemdww) was froze up when I came home from work last night. Probably nothing major, I figured. A bad heating element or defrost thermostat, or something. I started hunting for the defrost timer so I can see what it's doing. They hid that thing really well. I still haven't found it, but I have more pressing matters now.
I pulled the cover off the main control board to see if the timer was in there. The metal cover slipped and shorted something on the board. I don't know what it hit, but now I can't get the fridge to start. The only thing that will power is the indoor lights. I've checked the compressor windings and they're fine, but I can't get the compressor to run. I'm also not getting control voltage through the control voltage test terminals.
I'm not getting continuity through the condenser fan motor. Could I have destroyed the fan motor windings when I shorted the board? Is there a sequence that requires the fan to come on with the compressor that would stop the compressor from running if the fan were bad?
If the board is the only problem, I can get a new one for $150. That would be easier than buying a new fridge and paying someone to haul it for me.
